Description
or were they pushed...
Boogarem Falls was unknown to most until recently. In the last few years its been a place for Social Media Kings and Queens to be seen, often with yoga mat and in a downward dog position. Or maybe perched precariously on the edge of the falls with their phone mounted on the end of an extended selfie stick - doin' it for the 'gram. Influencers and their kind have made this a popular spot and I’m sure Instagram is littered with pics of this place now, usually with a bikini clad bottle blonde in the foreground.
The views are amazing – you can see right over green hills toward Byron Bay. The water is clear and fresh and you can often find somewhere to cool off. Best to stay away after a lot of rain as it can be a bit dangerous.
To get there: From Mullumbimby turn off Coolamon Scenic Drive and head down Wilsons Creek Road. Once up there a bit, turn Left into Koonyum Range Road. This is mostly dirt, but it’s usually kept in good condition. Next, spot the left onto Boogarem Road. About 1km or so up this road you’ll find enough room to park a couple of cars. From here, walk down stream – either along the riverbed or one of the many paths cut on the side of hills. You'll pass quite a few cascades, plus a nice cave cut out behind one of the smaller falls. Eventually you'll end up at the main event - the top of Boogarem Falls.
The cache is hidden in base of a small dead tree. You’re looking for a small black drink bottle, with a GCA pathtag for FTF. Some other swaps in there too. The cache is hidden very close to one of the paths on the side of the riverbank. A spoiler pic is in the gallery. Why not take a photo of yourself in your best Instagram pose and add it to the gallery! Not too close to the edge though; it’s 100m drop straight down. Not the best place for kids either.

Logs
I wasn't here for the cache and certainly not the FTF (I half expected to see GazaC's name in there), so I went for a wander down the waterfall.
WOW!
Just what I needed! So peaceful surrounded with the hundreds of shades of green and tricking waters lulling me into a relaxed state with a big grin on my face. I mostly followed the creek down just loving being near running waters and watching how it twists and turns around things and carving away at other things.
And the rocks - a few cool features in those too. The shiny black ones (of which the name escapes me just now) randomly popping out of the others at one point. The wavy lines. The line of grooves below one of the drops. The cave. The cliff seen in the distance from the top of the falls.
I was already half way back to the car when I remembered there was a cache here so I wandered back down, to find I'd passed close to it twice already. haha. two people had settled down to mediate at the falls but they were out of sight whilst I did my finding. I heard them chatting as they left while i was signing the log and it was getting late in the afternoon (4.30pm) so thought i was alone... turns out I wasn't! haha. Ravenclaw, if you heard someone being annoying talking on their phone and repeating, "I can't hear you properly", that was me. My eldest rang just to let me know she loves me. I wasn't going to put that away for later, and I did think I was alone there.
Back to the cache. I spilled the goods to see what the spoils were, already knowing I wasn't taking the FTF coin if it was still there because I have a few I keep forgetting to put in my own caches. But there was a little something in there I was quite interested in. Luckily for me, I was carrying the perfect swap item on my keyring. Not my multitool! Not on my life! A GCA pathtag that says exactly how I feel - My Favourite thing: Go Where I've Never Been Before. I slipped the pathtag off the keyring, and out of my fingers. Yep, she dropped the thing. Did it land at her feet? No. It rolled or bounced silently about 50cm away under a bush. But I got my lyrebird on and scratched away at the undergrowth till I found the treasure... and then I swapped it for the treasure i was after - a dirtbags pin.
With just enough light left (thanks to cloud cover getting thicker as well as the clock ticking on) to take one more small walk, I found the short way (350m) to the pool/unswimmable dam I could see on the map, and checked it out. You can really see the change in geology walking down this track. Sheesh it's a killer to get back up again though.
As for photos, I don't like doing selfies, so you'll just have to make do with a couple of images I posted on Instagram instead. Can't upload videos here, so you'll have to take my word for it that I stood right at the edge of the main fall.
Thank you so much for leading me here Matt. I enjoyed the drive, the walk, the views, the falls, and the geocache. Such a beautiful area up here. Loved it! Strangely energising after spending 8 hours straight on my feet at work.
I wandered down the cascades taking photos and stopped to admire a rock cairn. We haven't met in real life, but sometime during my photo session, No Tomorrow slipped by and claimed a FTF. Missed it by 'that' much. My influencer photo is Halloween themed as a witch with twig wand.
It was great to come out and see a different part of the North Coast to another beautiful waterfall. Thanks for cache MattyRx
They just can't get enough of the self-checkout.
