Description

This great new series will take you on a tour of Railton and Surrounds.

There are 7 caches in total to find

There is 6 traditional caches to find, all of which have information in each to aid you in finding the final caches location.

You will be required to have found and logged the first 6 caches before you can log the final cache.

In the Gallery is a Map of the Track into the bridge.

Be very careful when coming down to bridge level, as i was met by a rather aggresive tiger snake on 2 attempts to place this cache, there fore the cache has been placed approx. 20m from bridge coming down from Railtrack Road side.

There are two ways to get to this Historic Bridge. The shorter but steeper section, with limited parking, from the Rail Track Rd. And the slightly longer but flat section from Stoodley road that goes right past the weir. There is better parking along Stoodley Rd and it only takes 3 min to get to the bridge. There are a few stories floating around about the naming of the bridge. The Stone Bridge was built in 1897 and later widened to accommodate the current road above it, but one could assume there was a timber bridge there before it, that straddled Lowes Creek.

Decided on the approach from Old Rail Rd with a big stick in hand to ward off tigers (Tassie) tiger snakes, and other random interlopers. All good and mrs rhubarbroad soon spotted the likely location. All good here. Took pic of bridge, collcted necessary code letter and number. Now to look at a horse trough !

Out and about with Tassie Trekkers finding caches that have appeared since our last visit to the area. We are enjoying our tour of Railton and surrounds. This was a very interesting stop. One we wouldn't have known about without geocaching. It is nice to see the work that the Council is doing keeping the paths and bridge clear of blackberries.TFTC

Today we explored Railton and surrounds with whitewebbs and this series was on our to do list.

We have visited Railton many times caching and were pleasantly surprised to visit some new and interesting locations. This one was our favourite location of the series. Thanks for bringing us here.

Many thanks dez055 for placing and maintaining these caches for our enjoyment.

Another excellent site dating back to 1897.
They certainly knew how to build culverts back then.
Amazing construction that only had horse and cart over when built, yet today its strong enough to take our modern traffic with log trucks etc of 40 tonnes plus.
Quite warm today but no sign of reptiles thankfully.
Cache was soon found and in top condition.
Mant thanks for an awesome location...very much appreciated....cheers ST.

Continuing my Railton tour I decided to take the longer walk and in hindsight this was a good decision. A pleasant walk along a clear track led me to a brick tunnel bridge I never knew existed. Fortunately the wriggly rope was conspicuous in its absence so a quick find was made. I stopped to view and photograph the weir on my return journey. Very Happy

Since chatting with the CO at his event several weeks ago Mrs Y'stassie was looking forward to visiting this site, not in the hope of an encounter of the reptilian type but to visit an old brick creek tunnel under the road that she last saw over 55 years ago. After reading Beetles log she decided to follow the track in off Stoodley Road and was pleased to see it had been recently slashed so visibility was clear and no bush bashing was required. It was a very pretty walk in with the sound of the creek in the background. When we reached the tunnel we immediately spotted the CO's first choice of GZ and the most likely home of the resident tiger snake. We didn't visit but turned uphill and followed our GPS to the hide where once again good coordinates led us to a well hidden cache.

Thanks for this cache DEZ055. This was a very enjoyable caching experience and easily the highlight of the caches found today.

Was a bit wary of this one after the mention of snakes but today was probably as good a day to attempt it as any as no self respecting snake would be out on a wet day.
With the rain getting heavier I decided to take the short but steeper way to GZ.
It took quite a while for the GPS to settle and I checked a few places that fit the clue before it finally took me to the right one.
Did end up quite muddy and think I got a bit on your nice new log book too.
The worst thing about this cache was that I completely forgot to get the number I needed for the final so will have to go back again!!!
Hopefully Mr Snake won't be around then either.
Thanks DEZ055.
