Description

There's not much to see here now, but Sandy Flat used to have a railway station, school, and right here at GZ, a community hall.

Some may be fooled at first by the following questions, but believe me, the answers ARE at the given coordinates. If you can't find them, keep looking.

The goods train was derailed here in 192? ?=A
Irby's water powered flour mill on the Bluff River is pictured around 18?0 ?=B
Happy Joan Pink is in the 192? school photo. ?=C
Baguley's barn photo is from 190? ?=D

There's a number of spots around here a micro cache could be hiding, like the railway siding, or the railway line, or behind the rural fire service shed. But you can find it here:

S29 13.8AD E152 00.4BC

This location was found thanks to an archived cache. It's not here anymoe though. But here's a new one to show you a little bit of the interesting history of the area.
Enjoy.

We don't find many GA multis so when we noticed this was close to our planned route we stopped to collect the data needed to calculate the final coordinates. The presentation of the historic data was interesting and Mrs y'stassie spent some time reading the historic articles. After calculating the end point she set off to look for the cache. GZ wasn't where she thought it would be but after coming up cacheless she widened her search area to include an object she felt would be well suited to a hide. Sure enough after a few seconds she felt something familiar and soon had a container in hand.

Thanks for this multi C○3 ♀ Ɛ○<<○3. The container and contents were in good condition. Its nice to finally find one of your hides.

I found myself in the area today, and knew I wanted to grab a couple of caches conveniently located on the south side of Tenterfield. I'd see the signs that Sandy Flat was a 'Historic Area', but had no idea why.

Loved the way the historical information was displayed at the listed coordinates. Found the stories very interesting - especially the one regarding the de-railing of the goods train. Joan Pink wasn't the only stern child at Sandy Flat school. Quite a few of the kids didn't look happy to be having their photo taken. So much has changed in the world since these photos were taken. I wonder how much of it is better, or whether the simpler/hardworking life of the folks in this era was more satisfying.

I worked out the final coords, and plugged the into the GPS and soon had the cache in hand. Everything is good with the cache, and it was nice to have my signature on this one. This was a fun multi!

Fun Fact: Sand is defined as any material made up of grains within a specific size range. Sugar and salt typically qualify, so you've probably got sand in your kitchen cupboard.
