Description
I discovered this beautiful little park this morning while heading north out of Cairns. It is beautifully maintained with picnic shelters, toilets and masses of information about the area.
One of the plaques tells the story of Christie Palmerstone who discovered the track to Island Point in 1877, that lead to the founding of the Port Douglas settlement. Another tells the story of the “Bump” track that teamsters and packers had to negotiate to climb over the Great Dividing Range. There is yet another that was erected to commemorate the centenary of Port Douglas. Happy reading it is truly worthwhile.
If you have time after finishing your cuppa and reading all the history of this beautiful little park, there is now a geocache to find. Good luck finding it.
