Description

This is another cache placed beside the great Mersey River. The section of river is a top fly fishing run. It is on the southern end of what is known as the Great Bend. A great spot for a bit of lunch. The last section of the track is a tough 4X4 track. If your vehicle dosnt have the capabilities of a Landrover you will have to WALK, HAHAHAAHAH. The holes are deep and the mud is soft. Enjoy the area we do.

Logs

This geocache appears to be MIA so to stop it clogging the search lists we'll archive it. This is done to keep the Geocaching Australia clean and up to date.

If the owner can confirm it is in place the listing can be resurrected by placing an "unarchived" log against it.

There hasn't appeared to be any maintenance to this cache since the 2016 floods at which i can confirm GZ was a long way under water as i'm a local and come to this spot often.

we had a look at GZ for this cache, it hasnt been found since 2012 so im guessing that it has been washed away by the 2016 floods because this area was a long way under water at the time of the floods.
CO Might need to check this one and possibly replace it.

Yea, ya right. I'm note as green as I am Cabbage looking. We went for a drive a couple of years ago before we were geocachers. And I baulked BIG time at the track. But that was in a Triton Dual Cab.

Hahahahaaah, have a crack at the track in winter and you may find a very different animal. We will check on this one asap or when we get a chance which ever comes first.

Tried to find this yesterday with the family. All we found was scratched legs and an old bike frame. So we got home and I went through the logs and found that the co-ordinates had moved slightly. Embarassed

Today the boy and I tried again with the updated co-ordinates. No luck today either. Looks as though there has been some wood hooking going on around GZ and the cutty grass is thick and sharp. It may need checking?

By the way, If I still had my Hilux. I would have tackled the track. Piece of Cake. Alas I have a new Colorado now and I didn't want to get it dirty. Laughing

Found with whitewebbs, walked  the final 200 metres as didn't have a winch. Thanks for replacing this cache LandyClan.

We have relocated the cache close to the original location. Its hard to believe how high the flood water got this winter. The 4x4 track in to the cache is easy if you have some grip and clearance. There are many trees to winch off if you get yourself stuck. Nahhhhh you wont get stuck, lol LaughingLaughingLaughing

Thanks for the info, We will go check ASAP. We have not been back there since the flooding.

Was up here the other weekend. Didn't try looking for the cache as I was in the company of muggles - but the area looks like it was hit hard in floods. The trees I was searching around last time arn't all standing anymore. Might be worth a check.

Took the walking option around the mud. The gps took a while to settle but as it was a sensible hide it was soon found. TNLN Thanks

Nearly a drive by but baulked at the last moment as the 4WD was fairly clean and didn't wan't to wash it again. Great to return to this area. My parents owned the Big Bend farm and we spent many summers there camping. Have ridden these tracks and trails for years and were pretty sure we new exactly the location of the cache. Glad the cache wasn't where we first thought. Didn't want to cut our hands. Thanks Landy Clan. Keep them coming.

Had a meeting in Latrobe this morning so dropped in on this cache afterwards. Beautiful spot and a nice walk in. A quick find, an empty log so my first solo FTF. Had lunch beside the river before walking out. Thanks for bringing me back to this delightful spot Landy_clan.
