Description
I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series |
I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Casino is mentioned in the second verse - between Lithgow & Brigalow. I wonder did Lucky Star stop in town, or just buzz through on route to somewhere else...
Casino is a small town of about 10,000 people located in the Northern Rivers of NSW. It's not named after gaming establishments - nor are there any close by. It derives it's name from the Italian town of Cassino (there are no gaming establishments here, either).
Casino is self proclaimed 'Beef Capital of Australia', however Rockhampton in QLD has also claimed this title - and they do have a statue of a big bull. The Meat Co-op in town is the largest private employer in Northern NSW and keeps the local economy in shape. Once a year the town hosts 'Beef Week', a celebration of all things cow. 'Breakfast with the butchers' and a street parade happen during this week, and someones daughter gets crowned 'Miss Beef Queen'. Such an honour. Last year the Meat Co-op decided to pull out as main sponsor of the event, due to a water rates dispute with the council. The celebrations were expected to be called off, but the local energy supplier stepped in with some cash.
One remarkable fact about the town is the number of parks within it's boundaries - there are 14 in all, which is a lot for a town of it's size. The Richmond River snakes it's way through town and divides the town into two. The only vehicular crossing is via the Centre Street bridge.
There have been a few well known people exported from Casino. There was a high court judge, Matty King of the Melbourne Storm NRL team, and the purple wiggle - Jeff.
This cache is located in McAuliffe Park. A nice shady park with a nearby footbridge to the south side of town. Some other good caches and cachers in town too. You're looking for a small lock and lock container with a logbook, pencil and a few swaps. The GPSr may be a bugger with the overhead tree cover - the hint will help you out if you're stuck.

I think this 1 is gone or buried under wood chip – looks like council is doing a fair bit of work here.
So pleased that there was at least 1 GCA cache in Casino.
A quick find by Mrs Beetle while Mr Beetle was over checking out the very impressive giant trees here.
Thanks.

It was starting to rain but with the cover of those leafy trees nothing was getting through. This would be a great park on a hot day. Thanks MattyRX

195km from Home
On the way home from our Car Racing Team's Christmas party.
After breaking one of our own rules and stopping at the yellow arches we headed for this park with cofee and toasties. If nothing this reinforced why we don’t stop there and it is back to bakeries and “Mum & Dad” cafés for us.
A fairly quick find with the use of the hint, the giants were just too obvious and sucked us in for a time.
Took nothing but memories and left nothing but our tag and footprints.
Hide, log and container are in good nick.
Thanks for the cache MattyRx.

What a lovely little park this is. Thanks MattyRX for forcing us to visit. It was Pomgolian's FIRST GCA cache... My 54th It was quite hot in Casino by the time we visited this location and the dampness from this morning's water torture had well and truely dried. SO some respite in the shade was welcome.

I couldn't drive through town knowing this one was here, so a quick detour to grab and continue our journey.

Second of three ICEMs found today, and hopefully many more in the near future. Had to wait out a family taking the path nearby. Thanks MattyRX.
414. We piled out of the car and then had to pull up a bit short as there was a family wandering by. When they lost interest the find was made in a nice little area of Casino.
