Description

Muck Creek Falls

While the name of the creek doesn't sound like somewhere nice to pull over on the back road between Grafton and Armidale, it does in-fact have a little treasure hidden not far from the roadside that only eagle eyes will notice. I'm not sure if there are other falls on Muck Creek - there probably are due to the steep mountain terrain, but this one is a pretty little spot to explore.

Theres a little spot to pull over near the falls, but blink and you'll miss it. Leave your car and wander down to take a closer look. I imagine in dry times there may not be too much to see, but today the falls are very pretty. A tired hot traveller may even be tempted to climb down and splash around in the pool at the bottom of the falls.

To find the cache, head towards the falls. There’s a 1 meter ledge you can climb up to get a bit better view - the cache is here. Against the rock/dirt wall behind a rock.  The GPS was jumping around due to the tree cover, hence the description of the location. You’re seeking a thermos that includes a Logbook, Pencil and some goodies.

Before today (Sept 2024), it wasn't customary for this geocacher to do found logs on geocaches where they were with the CO when hiding the treasure. But when you start looking at challenge caches and coming up with ideas like, "I'd like to one day hide GCA challenge caches that require [so many] finds over [particular terrain and difficulty ratings]", you realise you could be eligible for more challenges yourself if you had logged these. The tricky part with this is trying to recall the adventure to write about it in the log. So here goes...

This day was about Trig hunting. I was keen to get outdoors and find a trig or two. We did just that. One of them used to have double vanes, like a double scoop icecream. I also recall a nice healthy lunch at a gorgeous little creek. Travelling along this road I caught a glimpse of this fall through the bushes, so we spun around and checked it out. Next thing, there's a cache hidden here. I have no way of gauging it, but I'm pretty certain this CO loves trig hunting and waterfalls more than I do, which is a lot. Very Happy
