Description
This 26 km rail trail follows an abandoned railway line between Scottsdale and Billycock Hill weaving its way through lovely farmland and a bit of Scottsdale industry for the first 10kms and then some amazing cuttings and forests as it winds its way up Billycock Hill for the final 16 km. With occasional glimpses out over the valley below, and a bit of well interpreted history lying on the side of the track this trail makes a great ride from those just looking to do a few kilometres with the kids through to those willing to tackle the full length out and back.
I have set the caches as if travelling from Scottsdale to Billycock Hill. All caches are within a few metres of the trail. The caches consist of a mixture of plastic food containers, eclipse mint tins and containers made from pvc pipe. Any notes made [ Right Hand Side (RHS) ] are from the aspect of starting at the Scottsdale end.
I have named the caches after the stations that were on this North West Line and stations are randomly selected from those that were in operation in 1949.
In all cases you will need a writing stick to sign the logs.
Invermay is a residential locality in the local government area of Launceston and is about 2 kilometres north of the city. The 2016 census provides a population of 3061 for the suburb of Invermay. Invermay is also home to many of Launceston's cultural institutions, in an area known as the "Inveresk Precinct" including the Tramway museum, Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. Invermay was gazetted as a locality in 1863. It was proclaimed a Town in 1896 and included in Greater Launceston in 1907.
Take the time to admire the old Railway Station building and to read the information board.

Logs
We did them in a very roundabout way, starting with the 3 in town that we could access from the van. Then we parked and tackled #16 - #34 on the bikes. Then crossed the road and did #15 - #11.
On day 2 we started at #56 and rode back to #35. Then we parked at the free camp area and tackled the 2 bonus caches plus #10 - #4.
Of the 58 caches involved we found all but 3 so guess we'll be back again at some stage after we notice they have been found by another cacher or replaced if MIA.
A quick find here at #1 by Mrs Beetle while Mr Beetle read the information board.
Really looking forward to this series which combines two of our favourite things - caching and riding.
Thanks.
Many thanks icybeetas, for placing this cache, the information and research on each cache page was interesting. We appreciate the time and effort gone into creating this trail.
Not the day to be caching in a damp and overcast Scottsdale but a few were collected
This one was Sainted at 1030hours after a quick and interesting find
Loved the surrounds
Enjoyed the experience
Cheers and thanks

Thanks for this cache Icybeetas. This is certainly an interesting area.
A quick search soon found the little container.
A blank log for ftf.
The real caching was soon to begin starting from the carpark at #25(Lings Siding) all the way up the rail line to the last cache #56 at the top of Billycock Hill.
Many tftc....much appreciated...cheers ST.
