Description
The Nile Perch represented Nigeria in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
During the Games one of the highlights was a series of 36 barges along the Yarra River which held large sculptures of fish and other sea creatures. There were 72 fish, each representing a nation which participated in the Games. Not all of the sculptures were of fish; there were also dolphins, whales, prawns and a turtle. Each fish or creature is either indigenous to the country they represent or are important to the local economy of that country. There were two Australian Short-Finned Eels representing Australia. The fish glowed with coloured lights and had water sprays co-ordinated to music.
Closeby is a park, toilets, shops, a free camp and also a great spot to catch a sunset.
