Description
Have you played GeoGuessr? If so, you'll be familiar with how this cache works. This is ArmchairCachr! GeoGuessr's little, buggier brother.
Essentially, when you start the game, you'll be presented with a Google StreetView image in the main browser window, with a small map in the bottom right. You need to determine where the StreetView image is taken with good accuracy. Each location shown is the GZ of a GCA physical cache or trig. You operate StreetView like you would on Google Maps - zooming, navigating, turning around and virtually travelling down roads etc, trying to figure out where you are. Unlike GeoGuessr, there are no time constraints and no points. You may benefit by having a second browser open so you can search for clues online. Street signs, road names and landmarks will all help you narrow down your search. You'll need to be a detective and find hints and clues as to where in Australia you could be. Online research may be helpful. A well travelled cachers may recognise the locations from being at GZ in person when searching for GCA caches and trigs. If you're lucky, the GZ of your own cache may pop up in the game. If you navigate away from the initial location and want to return, press the reload button on the bottom left.
Once you're confident you know where you are, move over to the smaller map on the bottom right and zoom in to the spot you think your initial StreetView image was taken. Click to place a red pin. If you make a mistake, just click the correct spot again and the pin will move. Once you're happy with the pin's location press the red check mark button. Your aim to set the pin down within 2km of the initial StreetView photo. If you do this successfully, you may be awarded with one of ten clues that will help you find the coordinates to this cache. If you're not successful, just play again. This game will operate in two modes:
Mode 1
|
The game will operate in Mode 1 for the entire duration of the MMMM Game (1 June 2023 - 31 July 2023). In this mode, the StreetView image shown is the same for everyone each day. Once solved you need to wait for the next day to see a new StreetView location and potentially score a new clue. Not everyday rewards a clue, but if you play for 15 days straight and win, you'll end up with all clues. If you miss one, just keep playing - they'll pop back again and again, every 15 days or so. |
Mode 2 CURRENTLY ACTIVE |
Each restart of the game (win or lose) starts at a new location. If you guess the location correctly you are guaranteed to get a random clue, then the game starts again at a different location. You can keep playing as long as you like so it's possible to get all clues in just one session of playing the game if you stick at it long enough. No 24 hour delay in a location refresh. At the end of each game you'll be told the distance between your guess and the initial streetview photo, and a map will be displayed visualising it. |
Please note that the game is a bit buggy and glitchy at times, especially if you try to reload or reset the game too fast. If you are presented with an image of a man walking his cockatoo, this means a image loading error has occurred. Please refresh the page (or click the logo at the top left) to re-load. This game works best on a desktop computer browser. Mobile devices may work, but should be used in portrait orientation.
The physical cache can be found at:

You're looking for a small clip lock container, containing logbook, pencil and some swaps.
Get in touch if you need help with the thing. Drop me a PM in the forums. The code for this game is modified open-source software, "OpenGuessr".

Logs
Enjoyed logging in each day to see if we had been to the "location of the day"
Many thanks MattyRx for creating this cache and adding to our geocaching experience today.
I have enjoyed this virtual travel around Australia, including recognising one place that I had actually visited. My family had fun trying to guess the locations with minimal clues before traveling along the roads to get more hints.
Thank you MattyRx for this puzzle.
Thanks for the fun trip around Oz.
