Description
This cache is the second of a group of 5 mystery caches hidden as part of GCA's Mid-Year Mystery Madness Months. The caches feature some of the 2y'stassies hobbies.
Mr y'stassie has been collecting stamps for nearly 70 years. Initially, stamps from all parts of the world were collected and pasted into albums. Overtime the focus of collecting became more focussed and techniques to store and display stamps became more enlightened. Currently the stamp collection focusses on Australia, some Australian Dependencies (such as Australian Antarctic Territory, Norfolk Island) and New Zealand.
Eight Australian stamps are shown below but the denominations of each stamp have been blanked out. In order to solve this puzzle, you will need to determine the denomination of each stamp. The eight denominations will provide the value for A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H. The denominations
- could be in predecimal or decimal currency
- could be in pounds, shillings or pence or in dollars or cents, in normal combinations
- are to be reduced to either pence or cents where a denomination is a combination
- for example 1 shilling and 3 pence (1/3) must be converted to 15 pence
- similarly $1.25 must be converted to 125 cents
The eight stamps are
Determine the values of A to H and then use them in the following formulas to calculate the coordinates.
S41 0A.(E/C)(F-H) E146 1G.D(H+B)
It is strongly suggested that you use the Coordinate Checker to check the accuracy of your research.
Good luck.
Congratulations Sirius tas on your FTF. Hope you didn't get too wet retrieving the container.

Google helped with a couple that had different values than the physical stamps he had.
Debated riding to this one but it was hardly worth loading and unloading the bikes so we walked to GZ where the container was spotted on approach.
Thanks 2y'stassies.
Now this was a pain to get to. I’ve got the battle scars to prove it. The prickles tried to drag me into the undergrowth I didn’t think I was going to get out alive I felt a pain down my right leg and realised that I had caught my leg on a stick climbing in to retrieve the cache. Cache in good condition. TFTC
I have a stamp collection from my father and his father and what I collected till an adult. I still have a bunch of my grandfathers stamps in envelopes that haven't been made presentable. Every now and again I do a little more work on it. One day I hope to pass a presentable collection on to a grandie. None of my children are interested in them.
Seeing as this cache is in Tassie, I've attached photos of a few Tassie stamps. They're probably common down there. They weren't as easy to come by up here on the mainland back in the day. Haha
Thanks for the puzzle and memories.
Today after battling with the rain to get the lawns sorted I decided to go for a drive to find all of the MMMM-our hobbies series of caches, this one was the last for the day almost dark I searched the hint item and accidentally found the prickles mentioned so using a stick prodding the area I soon had the familiar tap on plastic’s revealed the hidden container, signed and took the required photo. Then the walk back to the car was done in the dark luckily it wasn’t that far TFTC

Just 1 stamp was the culprit and after a paf it was all sorted.
A short walk from the previous cache had us at gz.
Very accurate coords made for an easy find with the bushes here wringing wet.
The cache is in top nick.
Thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle and find....many thanks 2y'stassies....cheers ST.
