Description
Lightning Ridge is black opal country.
Opals were first discovered in the late 1800s with the first shafts dug in 1905.
Paul Hogan claimed to come from Lightning Ridge to improve his chances in a talent quest. He actually came from Sydney but as the myth helped tourism in The Ridge Hogan has avoided correcting the record. A legitimate native is Australian women's rugby union international, Bella McKenzie.
The cache is placed on the self guided Red Car Door tour through the miners camps. All camps and mullock heaps are private property. It's advised to stick to the roads.
Plastic doesn't stand up to the extreme heat of The Ridge so you are looking for a magnetic eclipse tin with log and pencil.

We left St George this morning and our final destination today was Lightning Ridge. Of course, while here we had to search for geocaches. Apparently searching is a thing that's done in this region!
Thanks for the cache, great location

Arrived in Lightning Ridge this evening. After getting settled at our accommodation it was time to do a quick initial explore of the town as the sun set. This cache happened to be along the path we chose to travel so we stopped to make the find. The last person (a bunch of muggles by the look of it) had replaced the cache juuuust out of my reach so we struggled to get it out of it's hiding place, but got it in the end. I am LOVING the eclectic vibe of these houses/shacks and their yards. Can't wait to see more tomorrow.

This one was quicker to find than the last red door cache. Perhaps because we had a better idea of what to look for.
Thanks for the cache!

Our apologies, a mistake with the coords. Thanks Shifter Brains for the correct ones.
We found this one about 550m from the posted coordinates. We managed to find it it by driving along the red car door tour from the posted coords until we found the door in the photo.
Thanks for the hide (and FTF) geono.
We had added updated coordinates

I did not find it on the door which my GPS took me to. Tricky avoiding the cactus' too. It was not the one in the photograph. DNF.
