Description

Squid Game Iota

Squid Game Iota

Squid Game Iota named not for the television show but for the equipment you will need to reach the geocache.

This geocache is rated a terrain 1.5 as you should be able to walk up to GZ and as you do not need to climb the tree the terrain is no more challenging that the walk. The geocache is rated a difficulty 4 as once you are at GZ you won't find it lying at the base of a tree and will need to work out how to retrieve it.

This geocache is hidden in plain sight around 6m to 8m (estimated) above ground level (see picture 1) directly up the tree. Note that the tree is not climbable. That means you will need some specialised equipment to retrieve the geocache. A ladder may suffice depending on the length of the ladder. The method used to hide the geocache was with a hook and 10m telescoping squid pole (see picture 2) and as that requires specialised equipment it has a difficulty of 4. With feet firmly planted on the ground to avoid any risk of slipping or falling this makes the geocache a terrain of 1.5.

The geocache is attached to a large metal hoop which slips over the small branch. Attach your hook to the tip of the squid pole and hook the geocache off the small branch by slipping it through the large metal hoop. If you find your squid pole is too flexible at that length, remove a few of the slimmer sections, reattach your hook and try again. Replace the geocache by following the same method to slip the hoop back over the small branch.

I hope you enjoy a slightly different geocache hide method and that you enjoy your exploration of the area.

Logs

Today we continued our wander towards Geelong and our ferry home. We returned to the You Yangs to find a group of 14 caches that we didn't have time to look for on our last visit. The area was very dry and we crunched our way to the caches. Fortunately we were able to find all 14 cache containers.

This cache took a minute or two to locate and then, using an appropriate tool, was retrieved easily. The cache was very well designed and constructed and the contents were in good condition. As there were no other entries in the logbook, we will claim FTF at 13:45. The cache was returned to the location without any issues. Thanks caughtatwork for the cache.
