Description
Duck in to the Southern Cross
This cache is hidden at the Southern Cross University dam - Lismore Campus. A pretty little spot to sit, eat lunch and feed the ducks.
SCU was once a bustling place full of students, academics and staff with a busy plaza and library - this place now feels deserted in respect to what it once was. After the Lismore flooding in 2022, some buildings were leased to other businesses, schools or services and some tenants are still there to this day. The university has had meetings and pop up consultation stalls in regards to developing a Master Plan, on how SCU Lismore will be reimagined for the next decacde. It will be interesting to see how this place develops over time, as more and more students study externally and have less need to come into a classroom.
The library is worth checking out, as are some of the gardens in the campus. It's a nice spot to walk around and explore. There's a cache or two up here as well. The come and go over the years, as this one will - but it's a nice spot to go caching. This cache is named after another cache that was hidden very close by, but has since been archived. This is an easy find, and was hidden as part of the 2023 Summer Cachopoly Game. Hopefully it can assist others with their 'find' goals in the same game.

On to the next one
So after a nice relaxing lunch with the CO, it was time to visit the SCU. Rather than parking as close as possible, I decided to park on the other side of the lake and go for a wander. I was honestly quite surprised to find this little treasure here with so many different types of trees and plants and flowers growing in it. The tree/flower that caught my attention the most had cute yellow and white pom-pom floescences. I can't remember the name on the plaque except that it started with "Rubi" making me think, "But it's yellow, not red!". I have to google it now... Leichardt Pine. Pine!?
Other little treasures found were the colours, turtles, a David Rousell cube, and most of all, the many delicious scents. Beyond the lake I continued my treasure hunt discovering a colourful classroom, the graveyard roads, the pod village, a quarry, and a 4wd track leading right up the hill through the bush stopping at someone's backyard.
As you can tell, I enjoyed exploring the SCU today thanks to the CO. And enjoyed finding the cache too of course. Thanks for making a good afternoon great.
