Community halls once played a central role in the social and sporting lives of many Dorset localities and families. There was a period around 1910-1912 when a lot of the smaller local halls were built, includes Cuckoo, Talawa, Springfield and South Springfield. Now over 100 years old, some of these halls have been preserved and are finding their place in modern society, but others have been lost. The hall at Herrick is not looking so good, though it was a beautiful hall in its day, known for dancing, badminton and other enjoyable pursuits. Will it survive? What was your local or favourite hall? The History Society is always looking for old photos of either the outside of halls, or perhaps something occurring within their walls. Even if the halls don't always survive, it is important that we try to preserve the memories and images of their heydays.
