Caching at Portarlington and found this working beauty right next to a geocache at the flour mills.

Lismore, NSW, 2480.
I considered the fact that there is only one of these in the entire region that I know of and there is another Geocacher playing Cacheopoly in town and they might have also liked to snatched this one up. But in the end I decided I'd just go for it, so paused to get a couple of pics before going to "Gin Night" with friends.
I liked that there was a native plant place here and the top of the letterbox reminded me of proteas/waratahs.

Hello blingg thanks for the cache.
I had just been in to the Ross bakery to get some well needed food and coffee when I spotted this lovely old Post box out side the Ross Post Office.
The Ross Post Office was constructed in 1889 using locally quarried sandstone. Originally the telegraph office between Launceston and Hobart. Now a fully licenced Post Office that also stocks stationary, gifts and souvenirs. Bookings for various meeting rooms and the Town Hall are made here. Banking and Eftpos facilities available.

GLADSTONE STREET, GLENROWN, VICTORIA
Off on a little trip over Christmas we were in Glenrowan and stumbled across this beautiful old mailbox in front of the Glenrowan tourist centre.
From my travels through Victoria, I am most surprised at how much of the history of the towns has been retained. I have not seen much of that in NSW, so going to Victoria is at times, a bit of a cultural shock. Towns like Malmsbury, Chiltern and especially Ballarat have retained a lot of the old world charm. I love it.

Found this wonderful old red letterbox in Windsor, NSW -- one of the original 'Macquarie Towns' of the 18th century.
Right next to it was a modern letterbox.
You can still use both of them, but if you post in the old one, then your letter will receive a special cancellation.

This isn't one of the ones with the spike on the top but it is really old. It can be found at Pye Cottage in Gunning. The cottage was built in Dalton and moved here in the early 1970's and is now a museum dedicated to the settlers and pioneers of the area.
There is a GC cache here too. Mr Beetle and the GPS both managed to get in this photo. Thanks.

Hmmm... it looks like there is a pin near this box... but it certainly is not on it, and looking at the photos from the log it certainly is not this box as they look completely different and have differnt surrounds. So Im pretty happy this is a unique log. (See the photos)

Today was the second day of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland. Today we visited a number of towns east of Melbourne. Whilst looking for another cache at Traralgon we saw an old postbox outside the Post Office. We convinced ourselves that such a prominent example would have been logged already but, just in case, we took the obligatory photos. When we checked this evening we were very surprised to see that this old postbox had not been logged - so here it is! TFTC

It could do with a lick of paint...
The photo wasn't taken from the best angle but was the best I could do with the Garmin Oregon 550's inbuilt camera (for a change it doesn't look too compressed though) and the book tables on the footpath outside the post office either side of the postbox.

WanderingAus wandered by with the WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) on day 126 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, after 11 weeks in Darwin and a couple of weeks meandering across and down through Queensland then slowly down the Kidman Way to Griffith, through Jerilderie and on to Finley where we booked in to the caravan park for two nights, then on to Cobram for a night, and then to Rochester for a couple of nights.
The WanderingMrs had determined through the wonders of the Information Superhighway that there was line dancing that night in Kangaroo Flats, just south of Bendigo, so off we went again, heading for the A Line Caravan Park in Big Hill a little further south of Kangaroo Flats.
After setting up the caravan in the caravan park we headed out to explore Bendigo, and I spotted this old posting box at the Tourist Information Centre.

Found this one near the new Port Fairy Post Office in South West Vic. The Post Office was originally located in a historic building in another part of Port Fairy but was relocated to the current site approx 3 years ago. On the way from a new GC cache I decided to visit this old pillar box.
This is in the second common style dated 1875-1890, an unusual pyramid style with a large cornice. This was apparently intended mainly for country use. Whilst this has the usual horizontal slot, the country version had a vertical slot which was easy to use form horse back. I enjoy walking about Melbourne collecting snippets and seeing things that most people would hardly notice.
