Description

Largest Australian Flag

The Australian flag and flagmast above Australian Parliament House was designed to be a prominent and recognisable symbol of the Australian Parliament. The flag—which measures 12.8 metres by 6.4 metres—marks the exact centre of the building and was intended to be seen from most parts of Canberra. It is flown over Parliament House 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is floodlit at night.

Parliament House is one of the largest buildings in the southern hemisphere. It is 300 metres long and 300 metres wide and has a floor area of more than 250 000 square metres. A big flag was needed to fly over such a big building!

Grabbed a photo on a ride around Capital Hill. The photo doesn't do the flag justice.. it's way bigger than that. TFTV WotheNeeds2.

Was having a good couple of days in the capital.

I did a full lap of Parliament House.

While around the back I took a snap of the flag.

TFTV Very Happy

Geobash Easter Mega - Day #1 (Maundy Thursday 28/3)

Day one of my mega trip started with a very early wake up and with a leaving time of 5:22am. This is so I could get to my first of three (pre-registered) tours over the weekend which was at Parliament House (on time). It was a great tour and I learn/saw lots which I hadn’t seen before. Of course we also found the caches nearby. Once the tour was over we went our separate ways. For myself, I went to check in at the mega site. Got all my goodies and even bought a Geobash Bucket Hat. Afterwards, I went with a couple of others to find the nearby Letterbox. Afterwards it was time to head to the nearby event (GCAKGK0). It was a great event for everyone to catch up. I ducked off early and found the nearby caches. I then went and got AL’s plus saw some suspicious characters getting dinner. They invited me to tonight’s Mt Stranger tour. So of course I had to go. It was great fun walking around and find the night cache as well as others nearby. TB visit. If the cache wasn’t signed as JohnoMawbs, it was signed as JM or as the tour group name. A big thanks to the CO for adding this cache to game for the Geocaching community to enjoy. Big Grin TFTE’s & TFTC’s Big Grin

A nice quick snap shot here and now time for the tour. TFTC Big Grin

Came to the capital with some fellow teachers and a bunch of noisy year 6 students. I had a few ops to get some snaps for some virtuals and a few traditionals. TFTC
