Description
C&C continues its association with Wattle Park with a cache that explores evidence of Wattle Park's original ownership by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board.
The W class tram was introduced in 1923 to replace the A to V types that had existed under local tramways trusts prior to the formation of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. The W Class tram has operated on Melbourne's tram network ever since, albeit in decreasing numbers in recent years.
Between 1923 and 1956, 748 trams were built in several variants, starting with the W1. These weren't a big success, and were later converted to the W2 design which endured for 60 years. The W6 version pictured here entered service in 1951 and was the most popular variant. At the playground in Wattle Park you will find the bodies of a couple of W2s which first entered service in 1927. (Their predecessors at the park were originally quite intact and were enthusiastically "steered" by a certain geocacher in her distant childhood. Ah, yes, the days when an icecream in a cone cost thruppence from the Chalet kiosk...)
These days, most of the remaining W Class trams are in storage at the Newport Workshops, although a few are still in service on some inner city routes, the free City Circle tourist route and the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. A few were exported to the USA and other places; however their export was banned due to numerous calls for their preservation.
Futher information is available on Wikipedia and on railpage.org.au and many other places on the Internet.
The cache is quite close to Riversdale Rd, but we strongly suggest you don't try to park there. Inside the park there is ample parking and several other caches to be found. Bear in mind the name of the cache when you're trying to find it.

Thanks C&C....and interesting location, and I guess one has to wonder what it was all about.
We are currently touring Victoria with our geovan in tow, using geocaching as a guide. We have visited many amazing locations through geocaching and your cache - End of the tracks- was one we found along the way.
Many thanks Coffee and Cache for publishing this cache for our enjoyment and adding to our geocaching experience. Made a quick find at GZ - cache and contents were iin good condition.

In the end, I harrumphed off over here, delighting in the lack of munzees on the backs of signs meaning that Mr Grumpy Pants probably wouldn't like to know there were caches hidden here (so nerny ner ner - still haven't got the big girl boots on). I inspected two possible entry routes to gz - one long grassy and the other overgrown, and took the latter option given the temperature and slithery-creature risk. A quick find after peering in the right spot. TFTC Coffee and cache!
Enjoyed a walk right around the park this morning and scored a couple of finds on my way, this was the first.
What an amazing "structure" here at GZ. How on earth do you find these locations in the first place?
Cache located quickly and log signed. The zip lock bag is ripped but the log book is none the worse for it. I guess it is nicely protected where it is hidden.
Thanks for the cache in a lovely park, that I should visit more often.
Cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Coffee and Cache for the cache and giving us an excuse for a walk on this lovely afternoon.
The cache is in perfect condition.
Happy to sign and return on gorgeous sunny winter's day.
Thanks Coffee and Cache.
Thanks for the cache Coffee&Cache
Thanks for the placement, Coffee and Cache.
Found it straight away as it was exposed. I re-hid it properly after I had signed the log.

Our friends daughter's new boyfriend was quite bemused by the whole process lol and we actually took ages to find what was actually an easy find lol!! Too many cooks and all that lol
Took 2 fridge magnets, left soldier and animal

What goes down must go back up.
Unfortunately it's always harder going up!
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for the cache.
What on earth are those things doing there? Retaining the wall / bank?
Not to worry, we found the good things in amongst them and then walked up the embankment through the long wet grass back to the car and were were away.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks Coffee and Cache for this cache location here today.

GAFF 1
I was getting a bit stressed at work in the office, so decided to get out for an hour to walk around the park and find a cache too. Not many people around today despite the fantastic sunshine. Nice easy find, am now de-stressed, time to get back to the office. Thanks to Coffee and Cache for the hide, TNLN.
Nice easy find. Found it on a great day caching at 1600 and the rain stayed away though it was threatening all afternoon.
Took horse and left teddy bear and umbrella.
Cache is in good condition.
We set out for Wattle Park in search of a rather large gnome but took the hint from the hider and planned to grab this cache as well. Surprisingly we found it easier to find this small sistema than the 4.5kg gnome (yes, we weighed him) but as we were logging the find Mrs F spotted an approaching figure. Quickly we realised it was the Gnome's owner gmj3191, after a brief chat we teamed up to find his gnome.
Took Giant Clip
Left mini-rubik's cube
Grabbed Flaggie #5 Swaggie
Thanks Coffee and Cache
Setting eyes on my gnome, Gnorman, was another, and he was located very close by.
I parked in the car park and made way to this location vis a GC.com cache by C@C. As I approached GZ I head a voice come from within a tree at GZ "It's a give away when they come straight at you for no apparent reason" or words to that effect. It was Mr and Mrs Facitman who were already in attendance and logging the cache.
I veered off after saying hello to try to find Gnorman, and after that returned to the cache which had been re-hidden by the Facits.
I had an audiobook but it wouldn't fit, it was a TNLN.
Thanks for the cache C&C.
Find number 7 of 17 today. Top location, it felt kind of cool parting the branches to see something cool like that. Well done! Thanks for the cache.

Now off home to prepare for the dietary onslaught!
Thanks Coffee and Cache... another great highlight to this park.
The Solomonfamily have a lot of history with this park and it was a pleasure to hunt for the cache today.
I actually saw the listing not long after it was published last night, at the time I was in SES truck on the way to another job - as I was not driving at the time I lost the argument to go straight to it away (EVS). - It had to wait for today. Actually my SES unit have a lot to do with this location too as we every now and then use the W class trams here for training.
Despite our many years of history with the park we have never noticed this little spot before. A perfect spot for this cache.
Our Sincere thanks to Coffee and Cache for a top cache.
Swapped a clip for a train.
