Description

Travelling Gnome

This cache was released as part of the Gegnome caching game starting on the 1st December 2010 through to 31st January 2011.

The Shadow gnome was decorated and hidden by Marc, As my name suggests I will be hard to see in the under growth, all the better for hiding. Please enjoy remember to post photos of my journey, they will be much appreciated. It will help to remember my journey through this country of ours.

You will need to bring a pen to sign the log.

Many thanks to those that found and moved him.

Doh! That will teach me to look at the logs properly. Hey, I was in the area for another cache anyway Big Grin

So, is he healed and ready to travel again?

What happens to the travelling gnome after the race is over, well he becomes a regular movable cache.

Many thanks to pwags for being so creative in your efforts to unite Shadow Gnome with his missing limb. I had visions of Thing from the Addams family wandering around trying to find his lost body Very Happy
Thanks to the TaylorBrats for performing the required surgery to restore Shadow to his former self, now he's not so armless Laughing

Cheers hhheddy

30-Jan-11
So what happens with Shadow and others like him, once the 'race' is over??

30-Jan-11
So! We found the 'urgent' cache containing the detatched member (and managed to locate the patient) in time to reattach the limb!
Bought him home to perform the 'surgery', and he'll be in for observation at least overnight.
If the heat isn't too severe, we'll see if we can get him back on his feet, and ready for more adventures in the morning.
Unfortunately Shadow will be left with a scar to encircle his arm, and one fairly deep scar that goes all the way through the outer 'dermis', to reveal what lies beneath. The Bandaids will hide all that...

Was a lovely night for a spot of 1st Caidching. Albeit a tad strange rummaging in the bushes at 2am...

Will post new co-ords once he's well enough to be moved on!

TFTC Very Happy

I was a bit worried when I discovered him without a full complement of arms but now Gnow the full story. Hopefully they're reunited soon. Although, when I was given a one armed Gnome I gave him a hook and made a pirate out of him. You never Gnow, he may prefer the piratical way of life.

Travel far little Gnome. I'm a Gnome, duh!

Found this Gnome sleeping off an Australia Day hangover.
Time to move along little Gnome.

If I'd seen GA3077 in time I might have been able to reunite them on the way back home. As it is Shadow Gnome has overshot his arm and has already been re-hidden. Doh

27-Jan-11
Uh-oh! I just found Shadow's arm in my car. It must have fallen off the other night when I threw him in the back of the car.

I am attempting to re-unite Shadow and his arm via a new moveable cache. See: GA3077.

Took him further north immediately after finding him. Let's see how long he lasts here!

P.S. Don't trust Google Maps here, it's definitely a roadside drive-by, you barely need to get out of the car!

Gotcha! Will move on immediately tonight.

Hidden by Facitman, Mrs Facit and s-facit at 17:00
As we picked up A Gnightmarish Vision at a location I had hidden another gnome in about a week ago Shadow Gnome leapt out of car and scurried into the bushes, muttering about shadows and darkness and ivy.

I stopped by this morning for a quick search but having not done much research I was unsure of what I was looking for. The GPSr sent me on a goose chase so I set off for work, after checking the listing and now knowing basically what I was looking for I dropped in on the way home.... passing a newly published cache location, didn't stop as FTF was already gone but certainly saw a suspicious character lurking nearby. Once at Gnome central I spread my search from the previous area and found our friend quite quickly.
Thanks hhheddy & Marc

Sorry for the late log but we've been busy!
We enjoyed our brief visit with Shadow but I have to say he told me to keep a secret, "Shhh, don't tell anyone but I like Canadian beer the best!" He is a cheeky little bugger and I think if we find him again...we can turn him to the dark side!
Cheers Shadow! Until we meet again, eh?

I missed this little guy earlier on at a cache very close to my house, but this time...success! Thanks for the good hide xinders, good place for a cache.

We weren't expecting to find Shadow where we did.The gnome was put in the same place as our own very new cache. What a surprise! We introduced him to Sleepy, the gnome who lives in the cache. They had much to talk about before tiredness set in. TFTC Will release soon!

04-Jan-11
We saw Shadow's latest location earlier on today and thought he was just visiting the area. Then the penny dropped and we all rushed out at top speed to find him.... (except MWS..the "muggle who suffers", of course!!) At GZ we saw shadow's toes sticking out so close to a new cache we had hidden only yesterday and couldn't believe our eyes for chwiliwr's co-ordinates were different to ours and we thought we were heading somewhere else. A big thank you to chwiliwr for making it a nice and easy find. Lovely to meet Mr Shadow Gnome!! TFTC hhheddy and marc.

Okay. Third time lucky! After looking at the Google Earth image I came back today for another go, and was able to find it fairly quickly. I still felt a but weird grabbing something out of their garden bed and walking off with it, I thought someone was going to cone out and ask me what I was stealing at any moment.

It was lucky I didn't find this one yesterday when I was on my bike, because it's a very big heavy gnome! Will drop him off somewhere new soon.

30-Dec-10
I came here twice today. On my way to work, I found that the gate was locked, and I wasn't able to access the garden bed. Also, there was a muggle tending to the grape vines very close by, so I decided to go on my way.

On the way home from work, the gates were open, but I felt very conspicuous, because I couldn't see who was watching me from the cafe close by. I had a look in the garden bed, but couldn't see the cache, and I didn't want to walk in or fossick through the garden bed with people possibly watching.

29-Dec-10
I'm a Gnome, duh! We arrived at site at 6.30pm. We felt very suspicious as there were only staff working around the back of the Cafe. We pretty much felt like burglars. Appears the gates should have been shut around 5pm. We had a reasonable look but felt to inconspicuous and that someone was likely to call the cops. So we got out of there.

Sorry for not logging his hiding place earlier. Have seen really busy over the last week and have not had time to log.

He is now hidden past a row of flag poles in a garden bed.

Good luck

*FTF*
This little fellow has been Gnome Gnapped.

I saw this fellow pop up last night while checking for the work run today. I headed out half expecting him to be gone already, but i went anyway and was rewarded with gnome in hand.
I am taking him to work today so will see where he ends up.
