Description

Verdant croplands, grasslands and forested hills laid out below you.

For our East Gippsland Rail Trail bike ride I created a GA+GC route. 10 caches popped up within 500m although only 6 proved feasible from the trail. Noting gaps in coverage I popped into my riding pack a cache container I had prepared for another cache. A+ and I passed up some good spots (in mind for the future) then nearing Orbost, coming out of many kms of bush fringed trail this view was a knock out and I knew we had to hide here.

Spread out below is a verdant picture of maize fields, general farming in the mid distance and forested hills backing up. I forgot to get a picture! but I'm sure I can rely on you to upload.

Meant principally for bike, foot and horse users of the trail, it can be accessed by motorists who don't mind a bit of a walk. The long shaded flat route with sudden vista is from a road to the W and the shorter inclined route with developing view is from Burn Rd to the E (photo).

The container is camouflaged and has some traditional covering though it probably doesn't need it.

Slightly off trail E of GA3008, if you are up for a bit of a climb, GCG6H5 & TP5166 can be had - see Dec 2010 newsletter @ www.eastgippslandrailtrail.com re new track from afore mentioned Burn Rd.

Many thanks to those who placed the current 6 caches accessible to trail users. Maybe we'll get the 3 DNFs next time.

What a lovely walk along the trail to this one. We were wondering why the cache name is spelt that way. Now we know. ClappingVery Happy
Cache is in really good nick.
This find will come in handy for the current summer game.
Thanks for adding more fun to our walk Kennythe1st.

#GA2121 - 14:35; Day one of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After finding the nearby trig, we headed down the road and parked at the entry to the rail trail. Took the uphill route to GZ and started the hunt. The D/T rating indicated that we needn't get too close to the edge, but we couldn't come up with the goods. The hunt continued and after rechecking a little more closely the first area I'd searched, voila, a cache! Log signed we headed off and were soon on the road again. Headed along the bike trail and soon arrived a GZ. Took a good few minutes before the cache was spotted, thanks to LuckyL10n re-checking a spot we had already looked. Cache is all good.

Thanks Kennythe1st.....neat area to walk through

We have been in GCA caching heaven for the last few weeks but now we seem to have hit GCA wilderness so when we saw this one we thought, we've got bikes, we can do this. Parked at Burn Road and headed off. Enjoyed the ride so much that we even continued on to the next one along the trail after this one.
It was quickly found at GZ and we noticed that now 3 of the last 4 finders of this one have been Tasmanians!!!
Thanks, a great trail, I just wish we had more time to ride more of it.

Staying at Orbost we found this one while completing the EGRT series. Accurate co ordinates lead to a quick find and yes it is amazing!!!

Cache and contents are in excellent condition.

Thanks KENNYTHE1st for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

South Coast January 2015. I spent a few sunny days exploring from Eden to Orbost and beyond. A very interesting part of the country. The rail trail in this area is a lot rougher than those near Bright, but they are great areas to explore. Thanks.

On day thirteen of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland we toured around Lakes Entrance, staying in the seaside town for two nights. We attempted many of the caches we previously had to leave as we travelled north to Canberra. After a wild night of wind and rain, it was a pleasant day – fine and cool. We spent the morning walking between caches and then used our car for the afternoon cache hunts.

Our first visit for the afternoon was to a hill just south of Orbost. After completing two caches on one side of the hill, we walked along the rail trail on the other side and after a pleasant walk, we got to GZ where a quick find was made. The views over the fertile alluvial plains from the rail trail were spectacular. Three horses below took a great interest in our movements - not sure if they were hoping for a treat to supplement their lush grass. TFTC.

* FTF * to the greynomads Laughing Once we figured out how to get close in our geocar the pleasant 400m walk to the cache site was most enjoyable. Great views across very productive farmland. Obviously, irrigation water is coming from the Snowy River - it's not far from the sea to this spot but the increased flow to the Snowy is helping farming. Many thanks for the FTF prizes. Left a couple of erasers.

FTF gets a GA FTF pathtag and GA car sticker. STF or later can pick up a GA 10th anniversary pathtag this being almost the last day of 2010. Various trinkets to amuse younger geocachers.

Footnote: We used A+'s Garmin Forerunner 305 (her Xmas present for other sports) to fix the location so it is possible a better fix might be obtained from more capable GPSers. If you do get a good fix that you believe is preferable, then please email it to me. Thx, Kenny
