Description
A trapezium drystone wall in a forest setting on Goldfields Track
This cache is on the Dry Diggings Track component of the multi-use Goldfields Track. It is our 4th Goldfields Track cache.
In 1984 the featured drystone wall was fairly complete. Nowadays sections are missing and much of the rest is in disarray. By its original shape and size it appears to have been the boundary wall for a residential section. To avoid further accidental damage, the cache is not placed in the wall. It is near a fairly intact section of wall (photo). The dogs you may hear barking are dingos. The dingo farm and residence are just across the gully to the W.
This is a really interesting historical, scenic and recreational area. There are some truly excellent caches nearby. Whether you are out for exercise or a good way to spend a few hours, you will be well rewarded. For riders, the route S to Fryerstown is varied in both trail and scenery while N to Castlemaine is a most enjoyable single track along the Poverty Gully water race. Walkers will also enjoy the latter plus the shaded and pleasant route through to the Spring Gully historic mining lookout and perhaps even a traipse up The Monk - especially if you are doing GCQ4J2. Or the many other caches near the Dry Diggings Track between here and Castlemaine.
The container is a 250ml Sistema. It is hidden in the traditional manner. MTB riders and indeed walkers/runners/horse riders, wishing to further explore the goldfields/spa area can also refer to my Wombat Forest Trails blog. If you drove in from the the S, continuing on that track will bring you out on the Fryerstown-Chewton road.

Logs
A bit of a tricky cache to get to, but we eventually found a 2wd accessible road finishing only about 160m from the cache so we parked there and walked down. A quick walk and we were at the old wall. The silence was incredible at this location and we were able to search for the cache in the silence. A few minutes later we were able to come up with the cache and without having to disturb the wall too.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks kennythe1st for this cache along this way.

Cache was in good order. Log was duly signed and I made my way back to the car.
Arrived at GZ to find the cache and contents spread over the ground. Retrieved the lid and the log book but he container was no where to be seen. Mr T returned to the van and found a sistema container to match the lid. Signed log and replaced cache in a spot we thought most likely to be the hide. TFTC
This GZ certainly is a fine example of using available materials to construct necessary items of the time, when fencing material would have been expensive and not readily available and labour was cheap!
Aware of the log problem we brought along a new log book and zip bag and left our mark in it.
Thanks kennythe1st for bringing us here.
Cheers,
from Romax.
Love a cache in the bush.
What a fascinating feature. I can only assume it has been constructed by a large number of craftsmen when labour was a lot cheaper than today for a wealth landholder.
Unfortunately the location of the prize has formed a dam over winter and the container is saturated and caked with mud. I was unable to make a mark on the log.

Locations like this are 'the icing on the cake' of Geocaching with the locals hosting us anonymously to their favourite spots.
Our thanks to kennythe1st for the cache and bringing us to this location.

Cache condition – yuk

With half a day to spare we decided to start out early and try for this cache. After the recent rains I was not sure how we would get on getting close to the cache but as it turned out there was no issue at all. Drove up passed "The Monk" and just as the track started to narrow the unusual wall came into view. We Parked up and with GPSr in hand wandered over to the wall where I was supprised as to how far the cache was away !!!!! I checked the coords were correct and that I had good sat lock, oh well lets see where this goes. It soon became clear as other sections of the wall came into view that we were on the right track. As the numbers came down we were pointed to a likely object and the cache was then soon found.
Took FTF gifts (thanks)
Thanks kenny for a great GCA cache
