Description

.........."Tell him he's Dreaming".........

Darryl Kerrigan - 'The Castle' 1997

I'm sure most people know the movie, and of course we all know Darryl ended up at the High Court of Australia to defend his house from being 'Compulsorily Acquired'........and of course like all great stories, the little guy won.

Unfortunately, the scene's inside the High Court from the movie were not shot here, but while you're in the area, go on in and check out what it's like.

To claim this virtual cache, stand at the posted co-ords with your GPSr, take a photo and post it with your log.

The back drop will, of course, be the High Court.

It’s currently minus 2.1 degrees (and feels like minus 6 according to the BOM) on my late evening stroll around the sights of the national capital. A quick stop here for a photo. Thanks for the cache Sol de lune

Enjoying my few days in Canberra.

What an Aussie iconic movie this was.

Nice to be back and see the building again!

International Geocaching Day and my weekend away

Day #1 (20/8) - Attempting a NEW World Record!
When I heard that we were going to attempt the world record, I just knew that I needed to host an event for it. After seeing 'LilDonna_' was hosting a regular event, I decided on a CITO. So, my CITO was my first of three events today. They were: a CITO, Regular and CCE. After the fun of the clean up, it was off to Junee to clear up the caches from there once again which was eight finds. It was great fun and next onto Wagga for LilDonna's event. I arrived early because I knew I had to leave for Canberra shortly for the CCE event via checking into my motel. All talk Geo was had at LilDonna's event and I am sorry that I needed to leave so soon. After my 2h46m drive I checked into my motel and 15min later I was off to the next event which was the CCE. All talk Geo was once again had and lots of games played. Afterwards, isopeda and I found some nearby caches in the dark before we went our separate ways. I hope we did brake the WR!
Day #2 (21/8) – Sunday
After a late start, I headed out for a day of caching around Canberra, a bit of shopping at the Belconnen mall and night church in Tuggy. For caching during the day, I mainly focused on older caches, new LGA’s (for GC5KB4J) and a few AL’s to round it off. After church in Tuggy, I headed over to the centre of Canberra to find some caches that needed to be found in the night as so muggles don’t find them. Then it was time to get some sleep.

Another fun virtual cache to do while completing other nearby caches. Thanks so much for bringing me here. Big Grin

Some of the caches I found on day #2 & #3, I signed as JM. TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO's of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the caching community enjoyment. Big Grin TFTE's and TFTC's! Big Grin

13-Feb-20
The water feature here is probably a better subject for a photo than the large concrete cube used for the High Court. Very Happy

27-Aug-19
Found while escorting a visitor to the area.

17-Jun-19
Great day of caching in Canberrra again today. Did a lot of caches in the parlamentairy zone, mostly on foot. Weather was good for walking and it was not overly crowdy today.

Another quiet spot today on Easter Sunday.

Easter Sunday and very little traffic around so we took the opportunity to locate some caches. TFTC

19-Apr-19
After visiting the National Gallery with my muggle husband he then wanted to visit the National Portrait Gallery. I just had time to get this selfie as we walked past the High Court.
Thank you Sol de lune for this cache and the series.

Enjoying a stroll around this side of town. I almost forgot to check for GCA caches. I've already passed all these. I'll pick a few up on my way back to the car.

TFTV Smile

20-May-17
Don't know if this place was open today but there was fencing out the front so we just took the required photo before riding to the next virtual. A very deserted area on a Saturday afternoon. Loved the water feature as we approached this one.
Thanks.

01-Apr-17
Stopped in this park for lunch before heading up to Questacon. I had myself an 11 year old photographer...so much better than selfies!

29-Jan-17
what a nice pic. I couldn't resist this photo!

11-Mar-16
And another one found during Enlighten. The High court forecourt is currently home to a giant unicorn skull Smile. We really enjoyed the festival again this year. One more to go in this series! Thanks Sol de lune

As I cycled by I stopped to claim this Virtual Cache Very Happy. TFTC Sol de lune.

09-Nov-15
The entrance approach is grander than the actual building

31-May-15
It was a cool May Sunday morning when I stopped by the High Court of Australia. Reflecting much of the dribble that goes on here, this photo is of the dribble going on outside here too.
I happen to know two of the extras in the scene from The Castle filmed here as they were interviewed after the court case Shocked !
Thanks for the virtual Sol De Lune!
Cheers

With a day of work done and dusted, it was time to head for home but there was still time for a quick tour before hitting the skies. Wink This was first of the trio here and I got my PiC to take the shot at 16:35.

Ah the serenity. Dancing

Thanks Sol de Lune.

#GA118 - 13:25; I had some time to spare, so decided to collect information for a couple of GC multi's in the Parliamentary Triangle. It was then I remembered this series, of which I had collected four of nine so far. The only thing to do was to add to the tally, so out with the camera and this was the first of four more to be added to the tally. TFTC Sol de Lune Clapping

07-Mar-14
Came to the High Court with Relish64 and Chalk It Up to be enlightened, so just had to grab some selfies with a difference.

11-Aug-13
Nice day for a stroll around the parliamentary triangle

09-Oct-12
Found during a lunchtime walk on a sunny day

03-Jul-12
Cannot recall why I fell asleep in this picture! Does it have anything to do with the 'Castle' or the citizenship test? Didn't sound like fun to me...either of them Razz

TFTC!

03-Jul-12
Shame they didnt film here. Sad to say the whole significance of the event was lost on Zhaoy... so I have just added "The Castle" to her compulsary viewing list in order to get here brushed up on Aussie Culture for her citizenship test. Im sure a reference will have to be made there somewhere... Mr. Green

Cheers from Sydney!

23-May-12
When I got the call to say I had to get down to Canberra, I had a look at all of the caches. You guys a spoilt for choice. I noticed that you have Earth Caches, Mailbox and Virtual Caches which we don't have back home, so I decided to aim for them.

Being so late at night, there was very little light. I took a photo of the water feature to collect some light with the dimly lit building behind

25-Apr-12
Anzac Day was the ninth day of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland. The day was fine but, at times, a very cold wind was blowing. As it was a public holiday, it was an ideal time to tour around the centre of Canberra to complete the Canberra Virtual Tour series – with the exception of the National War Memorial, we were able to complete these before going off to the Anzac Day March and Service. We then visited MtBikerOz before heading off to complete the data collection for the ACT windmills in Great Aussie Icon Hunt series. Finally we were able to find a few caches. Overall, a very busy and enjoyable day.

The High Court of Australia building has been the location for many momentous legal decisions but probably no decision has been more important to Australian and nationhood than the granting of Sboriginal land rights. Whilst much still has to be done to transfer this legal statement into practice, it was in this building that the line was drawn on how indigenous people should be treated - as Australians with historical ownership of significant areas of teh country. TFTC Sol de Lune

21-Mar-12
This was my second stop on the tour. Caching the touristy way, makes life so much simpler, much easier to find a building than it is trying to find a nano.

10-Mar-12
Found this tonight during Enlighten. No projections on this building, although I think this could go quite well too but maybe too much as lots it going on around already. The fountains in front are nicely lid up though see picture

04-Mar-12
After a short but wet walk from the nearby Canberra Virtual Tour No. 3 we had arrived at the appropriate place to photograph this one. As it was raining and Mr Shifter had the camera, which we didn't want getting wet, Mrs Shifter sacrificed herself to the rain for the sake of cache.
Thanks for the tour Sol de Lune

Found on a lazy wander logging virtuals, weather too hot for hill top caching today...No muggles about in the heat. Thanks.

31-Oct-11
A nice lunch time walk to grab a few caches in the area. Many thanks for the walk and the virtual!

27-Oct-11

05-Jun-11
Found on a very cold morning in Canberra. Cool idea. "How's the serenity"! My dad told me about the Castle after I watched 50 to 1 "Famous Movie Quotes' with Bert Newton. TFTC. Dancing

08-May-11
Found with Andy on a Mothers Day caching run. Andy took the pics so I'm actually in them for a change. Pity the water feature is screened off and dry at the moment as it is quite speccy when up and running. However, it was a beautiful sunny day and this location wasn't as busy as the others, tourist wise. Thanks for the series Smile

26-Apr-11
Ah, the serenity. So much serenity here today. This one's going straight to the pool room!

Thanks Sol de Lune!

16-Apr-11
One of several GCA virtuals found on a great day out with SecretSquirrel.

16-Apr-11
Another lovely Autumn caching day around the lake with Captain Tomato.

21-Mar-11
Well this was the hardest of the virtuals today. Got to it and there was a big crane infront of the area. There were signs saying no entry.
I wondered what to do. Now being a smart roo I got to 9 meters away from gz and said ok this must do. Hope its good enough sol. TFTC

13-Mar-11
Virtual cycling tour south of the pond; the second of four of these that I knocked off today.

Thanks

13-Mar-11
218. My GPS had me slightly inside the fence so I took the next nearest spot I could. In the background (noise-wise) were warming up bag pipes so we had to get in and get out quick. Not since Mull of Kintyre and Long Way To The Top have bagpipes been bearable.

TFTC and the Margaret.

27-Feb-11

25-Feb-11
I really really really really wish that fountain/water feature was working. That was pretty much the only reason why i didnt mind getting dragged here as a kid.

Also, you would not know how suss one looks, when walking up here (in work attire, ick) after hours, looking at the fenced-off-water-bit in disgust, taking photo, noticing three offical looking cars parked behind you, and then running off in the direction of old parliment house.
Didnt get arrested! Hooray! Very Happy

25-Feb-11
Had to pop into the city for work, so picked up these on the way back. Shame the fountain isn't running. Another landmark I haven't entered since my school days.

23-Feb-11
GCA 76 - 3551 - A good run after work with Sol today....

Sure helps having the owner with you to take the photo ! Nice place and cache - photo attached !

TFTC !!

23-Feb-11
Lovely day for a bike ride collecting these virtuals. (PS - look closely, GPS on handlebars)

21-Feb-11
I had to visit the portrait gallery as well as you can't get out of the ca rpark without a validated ticket. The fountain is still out of order, but I am sure they will fix it one day.

Thanks.

20-Feb-11
Chooo ooo *FTF* whilst finding others in the area. Will try and attach photo using iPhone, otherwise, when I get home!

Note - turns out I couldn't attach the photo using the iPhone...
