Description
A Virtual Cache for finishers of the Sydney Morning Herald Half-Marathon
Have you ever run in the SMH Half-Marathon?
21km from Hyde Park around Sydney
To log a find:
Name the year or years you have entered and finished.
Post a photo of your certifcate or entry bib.
I saw Tronador's City 2 Surf virtual, and as I'm training for the SMH Half-Marathon on Sunday May 15 2011 @6.45am, I thought I'd add a virtual for it, too.
Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart. If competitors can't make it to the 11km mark by the end of 75 minutes, they will have to pull out. Registration for this year's event will be open only until race capacity is reached, and it costs $109 for adults, now that earlybird entry is over. You can NOT register on the day.
The difficulty level of this cache is 3.5 due to the sheer level of physical exertion required to complete the cache in the time allotted.

I know a lot of people start caching to improve their fitness, but I was always a sprinter and short distance runner. Anything over 400m was not in my skill set. Then I saw Tron's C2S cache and I didnt want that so close to home unfound so Zhaoy and I last year did some training and knocked it over. Then I saw this devil and so in Feb this year once I finished the 1000 day geostreak and Zhoay was safely back in China for a few months I had time to start training for this one.
My only complaint would be this is a D5/T3 star cache. D5 due to the preparation and time, T3 due to Observatory Hill, and the cut offs. (If you dont hit certain checkpoints you are DQ'd) It has been the longest cache hunt Ive ever embarked on (even the 100 day streak challenge was shorter!) and certainly required the most effort physically and mentally.
It was a chilly but glorious Sydney Autumn morning for the the run, which I ended up doing in 1:58h, cracking my 2 hour goal. Placed about 6,000th of 10,000 finishers, but then there were 2,000 who DNF'd hahaha (not at the racers, at the double usage
Now if anyone hides a full marathon cache I will kneecap them. This cache is at least findable, less than 0.001% of the population ever run a full so I dont think it would get many smilies
Edit: ok... Can't post the photo from my phone for some reason, will do so from home.
