Description

Part of the "I've Cached Everywhere Man" series the small Victorian country town of Lismore may not be as well known as it's NSW namesake but it is well worth a visit.

"I've Cached Everywhere Man" was made famous by Lucky Star in 1962. Lyrics by Geoff Mack.

Lismore is located half way between Geelong and Warrnambool on the Hamilton Highway.

European settlement began when a pastoralist named John Brown settled in the area after breaking an axle near a small area of ponds in 1840.  The area was originally known as Brown's Water Hole.  In 1853 it was renamed Lismore after a town in Ireland.  Today it has a Post Office, Hotel, Bakery and Takeaway.

The cache is hidden in Grimwade Park which is located near the Lismore Swimming Pool and Browns Water Holes Caravan Park.  There is also a small playground and toilet.

The real surprise in Grimwade Park is the old train.  The D3.671 was donated to the town by H.T Grimwade MBE in 1965.  It has travelled 879,128 miles.  I have heard from a local that the council may want to move it away as it is seen as unsafe, it is fenced off to stop access to it.

There is also a collection of old farm machinery nearby.  The grass area leads down to a wooden track that leads down along Browns Water Holes under the bridge.

It's easy to miss this park when you are on the highway passing through Lismore.  Take some time to stop for a break and enjoy the area before heading off to cache everywhere man.

Cache is a one litre sistema.

A very cool location where, given there was a geocache, we stopped for lunch as well. Lovely old trains and tractors at this location as well as toilets and seating, a rotunda and a BBQ. A great place for a visit and the geocache was found quickly and in good order. I've now geocached in Lismore.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for this geocache hide for us to find on our long weekend away in Warnambool, checking out the sites, the geocaches and the local TrigPoints.

#GA1975 - 16:10; Day five of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. The plan for today was to head south through Beaufort to Penshurst, Port Fairy and Warnambool, before heading back via Camperdown and Lismore to Creswick caching all the way. We were now well and truly on the return leg when we reached this nice Lions Park in Lismore. Quickly homed in on GZ for the find. Log signed, cache returned and we headed off to pick up a local GC cache on the way out of town. TFTC draw four Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out and about after attending an event in Beaufort, since we have all the GC caches in the area we tried for a GCA and bingo, let's grab it, and noticed it had 12 months unloved, thanks for the cache.

Although I signed up to GCA over a year ago, this is my first GCA cache. I've only searched for GC caches (over 900) up until now. I've been through Lismore hundreds of times and have often thought of placing a cache here. The other day I looked on the GCA map and saw a GCA cache was hidden there. As I was going through today, I decided to pull over and search for the cache. A straightforward find. Cache and contents in good condition. Thanks Draw Four.

Stopped here for snack and to switch drivers while heading west.
The Loco seems to be in good condition still, shame it's been fenced off though.
Thanks

This was next on our journey down to Port Fairy for our bushwalk tomorrow and first GCA cache for the day Very Happy. A nice easy find at 15:15 although I did have to use a bit of stealth due to the picnicking muggles nearby.

Would have loved the footy cards Wink but in the end I TNLNSL. Thanks draw four and Wild Josh.

Great spot for a rest on our way East.

Thanks for the GREAT GCA cache, it's a pity it is so hard to get Victorians to seek them!

Your efforts are appreciated and it's a spot I'll remember. The kids loved the train nearby!

Thanks for the cache, and thanks for supporting our sites!

Another stifling hot day, and we caching idiots are out in the heat again. I have no idea why we do it, but we just keep on hunting for one more...and one more... and so on.

01-Jan-12
A joint *FTF* with Just a cacher on a trip to Ballarat to see some friends for New Years. A quick grab in the heat and a chance to grab a gnome.

Surprisingly not much traffic on the roads today, perhaps the heat is keeping them in the cool.

Thanks for the cache draw 4 & Wild Josh
