Description

This cache is the 5th in the Branching Out series.

It is located in The Trevallyn Nature Recreation Area.  A popular spot for muggles and their dogs.

The track runs parallel to the South Esk River, a spectacular sight when in flood.

Cache is off main track so be aware of uneven ground and drop offs, as not fenced, particularly with jnr cachers.

Please take note of how it comes apart and replace by lining up the 2 nail heads, then replace cache as found.

Contains Log sheet only -  bring your own pen.

A clever hide. Spotted the likely hide straight away but dismissed it for some reason. Several minutes later after searching everywhere else we returned and the cache showed up. Nice one! TFTC!

Log replaced, please make sure lid is secure to solve previous water log problem. All ready to go.

27-Nov-19
The cache log was saturated when found and I am not sure that it is in it's original condition as it was a nail that made me look more closely at the "branch"

27-Nov-19
I had previously been looking for this sneaky little cache and it was probably too early in my geocaching career for me to find it (as I didn't) but once back again and having found others in this series, it was almost the first thing I saw...but a great cache. Unfortunately the log was soaking wet and I could not sign it, so I have attached a photo as proof.

24-Nov-19
today we choose to target all the caches in the Trevallyn dam area, we attempted 14 caches with 13 finds and 1 DNF. it was a very hot waling along the trail so we were always on the look out for our slithering friends.
this cache was took a little to locate with accurate co-ordinance but once found we admired how clever this container was but the log was absoulutly saturated, we tried to sign our name but it didnt come out on the wet paper. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Ended up with 2 leaches on me today fun times lol didn’t stop me finding the cache though TFTC

Found with Mtrax on our hike around Cataract gorge - a wonderful place.

Another ingenious hide, these are tricky gca caches well done and thanks
Found with Tankengine on our Geocaching trip to Tasmania

Had a good walk up here trying to find the last 3 in this brilliant series. I have no idea how I found this. Dumb luck I think. Love these tricky little branching out puzzles!

15-Dec-16
This one took the longest of the series & the GPS bouncing around didn't help. After several laps of the several 'uprooted trees' & almost putting my hand on the cache at least twice, it settled down & I looked closely enough to make the find. Another great effort, but watch out for the ants that look like they've taken up residence. Otherwise, the cache contents are all in order. TFTC!

07-May-16
the Trevallyn Trekking group spent quite a while looking for this clever hide. There were plenty of interesting distractions here but eventually the cache was found. If this high standard of hide is what we have install its going to take a bit longer than planned Surprised . TFTC

Found it 07/05/2016

Tassie Trekkers thank you for the cache.

This one was found while caching with a great group after the Trevallyn Trekking event.

After a bit of searching it was found.

Found after the Trevallyn Trekking event today. Bit tricky, but eventually located

After the event this was our second find of the series and this one took us some time to find with people all over the place looking here and there, in the end the cache was spotted with help from a past finder, after this we moved on to the next but we lost part of the group along the way.

19-Apr-16
Checked on this cache today and the others in the series. Still in position and in good order.

26-Jan-16
Next one along the trail, although I did move the car down this time, and it took a minute but the cache was soon rooted out and the log was signed. Nicely hidden again

Thanks for the effort and the cache TT....

15-Oct-15

TFTC another well constructed cache in great condition. A favourite for me. Took a little while but I enjoyed the search.

As many others have found this was very nearly our nemesis, as every possible bit & piece was poked, prodded, pulled & mishandled. The "hint" of course helped not one whit. But as this was my last of the series which I had enjoyed so much I would not be dissuaded by leaving with a bitter taste in my mouth. The "whoo hoo" when the hide was finally located may have carried all the way to the Hoo Hoo Hut.

A really excellent series Tassie Trekkers. Thanks also for the recent maintenance run so I knew everything would be hunky dory. The Tardis was being piloted solo (never a good idea to let the doctor travel unaccompanied), but I think Ms Tardis may want to come & share the fun of finding these so I could very well be back to do them all again.

Checked on this cache and the others in the series. Still in position and in good order.

Not knowing the size, clue or latest logs, I had a look but didn't find it. I will find it another time!!! Brick Wall

03-Jan-14
I've only just started locating caches from the GCA website and so far I have not been disappointed with the quality of the hides. Really enjoying this series. Some black ants have made a home in this one too, along with some eggs. TFTC

02-Nov-13
784. We had to turn back due to time constraints after this one which is a real pity as I was really enjoying this series. They really do deserve many more visits!

We nearly came unstuck on this one. We clambered around for AGES looking for it, even knowing what we were looking for, still managed to miss it... Had a dramatic anti-climactic moment when my partner thought he'd found it... but was wrong! Eventually I put my hand on something and asked him if he'd looked at this yet, and he said he had... but of course I looked as well and there was the cache!! Unbelievable. The most difficult one for us in the series though I'm not sure why; the coords were good and it looked bleeding obvious afterwards!! Great stuff, thanks so much!

20-Dec-12
A short search had this one in hand...once again it was on the ground...all ok though....back where it belonged. Enjoying the jaunt around here...but I've done them back to front...and from all angles. Great hides too...TFTC..Cheers.

01-Dec-12
Found while in the area looking for bingo moveables. We definitely have to come back and finish this series.

11-Nov-12
This amazing cache had us running around for two hours! The cache was so blended in to the bush that it was extremely hard to find. We finally found it in an extremely smart location. Thankyou for the time and effort put in to it.

TFTC! A very cleaver group of caches! Found with Elcato Very Happy

My second bit of hopelessness for the day.
I think I talked myself out of it - I was thinking about the netball final I had to umpire in a couple of hours, and the light was fading a bit, so when after a few minutes looking I found the two biggest leeches I have ever seen in Tassie (and by some way) crawling up my jeans, I decided it was time to pack it in for the day!

01-Jul-12
This one took the longest of all our finds this afternoon. Shouldn't have. Co-ordinates were spot on but we missed it twice before making the find. Another log in charcoal. Getting good at this but I hope it doesn't smudge too much.

23-Jun-12
Really enjoyed this series, TFTC

06-Jun-12
We decided to increase the difficulty of this series by doing it in reverse. Great cache and a memorable series. A lot of thought and effort has gone into it and we enjoyed it immensely. TNLNSL. Thankyou for organising the hunt.

As all who have done this series of 6 caches have mentioned, what a terrific set of well thought out, cunningly crafted and placed caches!
Thank you so much for spending what would have to be an awful lot of time constructing these hides and probably an equal amount of time placing them.
You have given a lot of pleasure to many people already and will continue to do so into the future. I can't find these caches listed on the .com site just the .com.au site so some people must be missing out.

Found this 1 a bit away from what we thought was GZ. Maybe it wanders a bit each time it is found and replaced!

11-May-12
A lot of time has gone into the creation of this series! Worth adding to you’re to do list. TFTC

12-Mar-12
Only two to go now in this marvelous series, all of which were a delight to discover. Had a most enjoyable walk through the bush, accompanied by sounds of running water, roos, kookaburras, other birds, butterflies - and even ticks!
This one would certainly be most difficult to find if starting from this end, without the hind sight of the previous ones, as there are a mountain of possible hides here, so its highly recommended to go in numerical order. Thanks for the hunt Tassie Trekkers.

07-Mar-12
Last cache find for this series. Parked fairly close on my way out from the Hoo Hoo Hut. Did some Swampy caching to get to GZ, and on the way found a rather sharp small tree stump. Didn't pierce the sole of the footwear but made me roll the same ankle I rolled at the recent Meal On The Mountain event. So now I hobble around a bit until it gets better again.
Found after discounting all the other cache looking items which was about 2 minutes.
I think this is the best cache of the series for construction. Incidentally, something has moved in and is setting up house around the cache but should stay there if you remove the cache properly.
Thanks for the cache and the series

07-Jan-12
Nice walk through here today. Missed out on two of this series as the kids lost interest due to the difficulty. Great hides.

29-Oct-11
While my wife attended a conference in Launceston I was allowed to go caching for two days in and around the Launceston Area. In the end I managed to go through to Derby and get the icem cache I wanted to find, through to Kayena and check my caches there and clear out the majority of Launceston Traditionals that were actually there. The only one that I failed to get was "Power to the People", where I simply ran out of time.

Found this one later than other four, as I had walked back to the car and driven to the other end. The hide was good, but quickly found. Thank you for the series

03-Oct-11
Tricky one this one. Found OK second time around. We at least had some daylight this time making it easier. Love daylight savings.

21-Sep-11
Tassie Trekkers well done to this point.
This made five down and one to go. What an effort you've put into these caches. A series of high magnificance!!
This detour took a little longer to reach ground zero than the others had as I had to dodge a few fleeing thumpers on the way. Their reddish colouring was a joy to behold. You'd nearly think they were small "Reds". Some bird and I don't know what it was, was in fine form here. What a beautiful song it rendered. Can't remember hearing it before, but won't forget it in a hurry.
Then the sound of chain saws from across the river and it was gone.
So far, no rain, but the breeze is back up. In fact, it's got a bit warmer, so may-be the precipitation is going to hang off.
Finding this cache did not take long at all, that is, it was a very quick find!
Extracted, signed and replaced at 1253 hours.
Now to the final in the series.
Cheers, OldSaint.

26-Aug-11
5th in the series and another great hide. Coords spot on. TFTC.

21-Aug-11
Another clever hide and easy find on a beaut day for a walk along the river. TNLN. TFTC!

26-Jul-11
A Challenging series of caches that obviosuly a lot of time and effort had gone into. Clapping Thanks Tassie Trekkers

23-Jul-11
Another super hide
Really getting into the swing of things so it didnt take long to find at all.

17-Jul-11
Well, after initially not finding #4 I was determined to find this bugger, and we almost didn't. Then I saw something that made me go 'hmmmm' and then realised what I'd found.

Another great bit of crafting!

Thanks!

15-Jul-11
Found Gz easily enough, but took a bit of thinking, so many tree's & branches. One just did look a bit out of place & so it proved to be!

13-Jul-11
Even using the hint this one took a bit of spotting even though it was not concealed as such. A great hide. Many thanks

09-Jul-11
Another great hide. Took a while even with 8 eyes looking. By this time in this series we had worked out that everything needs examining carefully. Thanks.

07-Jul-11
Whilst there is a very definite theme to the caches in this series, each is very distinctive with carefully planned and extremely well constructed hides with the coordinates being very accurate. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk through this part of the reserve, sharing the company of wallabies, an echidna (which we though should be hibernating), black cockatoos and robin red breasts. An excellent hide - glad it is not the season for snakes. We were surprised that it had remained unfound - so, we will claim the FTF at 9:45. Thanks for a great series TassieTrekkers
