Description

A virtual dinosaur was placed at this location for National Science Week 2011 - it will apparently be there at least until the end of August.  You will need a smartphone, the current version of the  Layar app and the Jurassic Science Week layer to see the virtual dinosaur.

To log this cache, post a photo of a dinosaur doing something academic at the location during your visit there (e.g. reading a textbook, wearing an academic hat, Googling).  The dinosaur can be the virtual one or plastic or plush or pictorial or whatever you choose.

If you enjoy virtual dinosaurs, you might also like to visit the pteranodon  which is nearby at 42 54.242, 147 19.808.  We have not listed it as a separate virtual cache due to the close proximity to the triceratops.

Out with the family on a week in Hobart and before lunch we decided to go and find some dinosaurs. I remember when these were first published and was very envious that they were so far away. Today we loaded up the app, grabbed the layer and we were off to see what we could find. We found a lot today and they were all very cool and fun to catch. Thanks for this series of virtual caches with a difference.

On a very warm and muggy day, I tracked down the last of the dinosaurs.
I think he must have been coming out of the Stanley Burbury Theatre after a lecture - but I guess it's academic Very Happy.

Found him hanging around the admin area for the uni. He is obviously the first line of defence in ensuring the uni attracts the right persons!! Love this series and the whole concept of these ancient creatures. TFTC.

I don't have an appropriate device for running the required application, nor do I have a pet dinosaur to bring with me. I hope that a photo taken in the appropriate location showing lack of dinosaur activity is sufficient for logging a find on this cache.

Hi DDTs
After not being able download the application yesterday and purchasing a dinosaur for the purposes of these caches; last night I got to work and finally got the application installed on the phone.
Set off early this morning to try the new system out.
Arrived here to an empty car park, loaded up the application and tried to find the criter.
Finally got him in the picture, but couldn't get him to size down to fit the frame. Tried to get a photo on the phone and the camera button did not take the picture.
How can I log my find?
Take a photo with a normal camera of the phone with the Triceraptos displayed on its screen.
Hence a photo of a phone and said image.
Off to Budgietas for a lesson was next on the agenda.
Great concept, images out of nowhere - I felt like an illusionist. Great feeling to be a magician - and a great idea for caching. Congratlations on providing this series of caches.
Cheers; OldSaint.

Hi - Thank you for the great concept.

I have Geo Kid A here with Triceratops. Geo Kid A has a dinosaur from Geo Kid O with a notebook and pen. As academic as I could get at the time.

I have spent many hours in the lecture hall inside this building, and introduced the kids to where daddy went to school. I think this is the best photo of the dinosaur, although this can be tricky animals to keep still.

Thank you DDT for the caches they are great. Hopefully we will complete on Friday. A great family activity
