Description
A virtual dinosaur was placed at this location for National Science Week 2011 - it will apparently be there at least until the end of August. You will need a smartphone, the current version of the Layar app and the Jurassic Science Week layer to see the virtual dinosaur.
To log this cache, post a photo of a dinosaur doing something related to the Antarctic during your visit to gz (e.g. watching a penguin, reaching for a scarf). The dinosaur can be the virtual one or plastic or plush or pictorial or whatever you choose.
Logs
It's the big winter freeze in Hobart.
Plenty of polar blast.
Sadly Layar does not seem to be active in Aus anymore see attached photo.
Well for me anyway.
So improvise it was
So an antarctic freeze is the only thing this dino was trying to beat today.

The Aurora Australis was here today getting ready for her final voyage to Antarctica later this year. But wait, there's a large aquatic dinosaur swimming next to her! It might get in the way! TFTC!

Hi DDTs thanks these dinosaurs are standing the test of time, these virtual ones are not yet extinct!
Found this one with jnrEP and didn't even get out of the car. Thanks.

Bumped into this fellow while out for a lunchtime walk. I wonder if my Marine Board building colleagues realise they have this dinosaur roaming around outside their offices. TFTC for this virtual cache-my (Mr T) first.
After getting a bit of a fright from the ceratosaurus we high tailed it round to the doedicurus lair. Cripes, what a monster! He needed no less than 3 parking spots just to sit down for a spell. Whilst he was kind of cuddly looking, that tail was a certain killer. Thanks for more fun of a somewhat different kind DDTs.

This was a fun little virtual cache where I found these with mummmy, Jessica and caughtatwork. Thanks for this cache here today.
Out with the family on a week in Hobart and before lunch we decided to go and find some dinosaurs. I remember when these were first published and was very envious that they were so far away. Today we loaded up the app, grabbed the layer and we were off to see what we could find. We found a lot today and they were all very cool and fun to catch. Thanks for this series of virtual caches with a difference.

Surprised to find these virtual dinosaurs still roaming the streets of Hobart. Today we managed to capture their image and grab a smilie. Thanks DDTs for our dinosaur encounter we enjoyed the experience.

Found this morning on a walk from our hotel down the waterfront.
I'm really enjoying these virtual dinosaurs.
Thanks DDTs.

Thanks DDTs.
This was my last dinosaur encounter for tonight, and this trip for that matter. I was wondering how to fit the Antarctic aspect into things when I spied an obvious signage a bit away from GZ. I decided to take some liberty on the coordinates and had the pickie taken with the great Australian Antarctic explorer himself, Sir Douglas Mawson, at 19:35.
Many thanks for this bunch of virtuals DDTs. It would have been really great to see the virtual application in all its glory but unfortunately toy dinosaurs will have to suffice for my excursion.

It took my phone quite a long time to come to the party with this one, but evenutally we found it! I think the skating rink at Mawson Place was closed because of DINOSAUR.
Thank you for the cache!!
Thank you for the cache!!
Had a great time doing some webcam and virtual caches in Hobart this morning. Thanks for organising the fun for us!

Found on the way to discovering the cold hard truth about the need for tickets to enter the Taste of Tasmania on New Year's Eve.
Continuing on our stroll, Dino and I passed this dinosaur photographing point! Thanks DDT's. IT's not quite the same without the proper technology, but I'm glad you provided us with an alternative.
We tried to take this little fella over to see Mawson but he kept disappearing...
I don't have an appropriate device for running the required application, nor do I have a pet dinosaur to bring with me. I hope that a photo taken in the appropriate location showing lack of dinosaur activity is sufficient for logging a find on this cache.
Found Trodon and captured a photo and managed to get away unscathed so decided to pay this fellow a visit and try our luck again. He's a bit of a big one isn't he, but friendly enough. He kindly allowed us to circle and take a photo from his better side. (Wasn't too happy with us roaming around his rear though so we made a quiet retreat).
TFTC.

The doedicurus proved hard to find, but once I did, it gave me the cold shoulder and headed for the water, and perhaps a ship south.
Found on a nice little walk around the water front before having dinner with relatives. Found two and a one was hiding from us. This one was found easuly enough, but was running (!!!) around the square and it took a while to get a photo.
Thank you for bringing us to this great little adventure of "layaring"

Had some fun with this one. Managed to get the red button into the zone and have the camera function working properly by now.
Three guys from a well known road making company were talking just in front of the image. Took photo and noticed that the Doedicurus was heading for the foot of on of the men enjoying their conversation.
So I excuse myself and cut into their conversation.
Asked if they realised that they were talking in front of a pre-historic creature? The looks on their faces - priceless!!
Showed them the pic and how the little monster was about to munch on his foot and the laughter was hysterical. just notice that the Doedicrus not only has his own feet, but two humanoid ones as well.
As I walked away "How did he do that? Scarey ain't it!! Wish I knew what to do!" was the tone of their conversation.
Another great caching moment thanks to you
