Description

A virtual dinosaur was placed at this location for National Science Week 2011 - it will apparently be there at least until the end of August.  You will need a smartphone, the current version of the  Layar app and the Jurassic Science Week layer to see the virtual dinosaur.

To log this cache, post a photo of  your visit to gz that includes a dinosaur trying to use a gps to find its way around town.  The dinosaur can be the virtual one or plastic or plush or pictorial or whatever you choose.

If you enjoy virtual dinosaurs, you might also like to visit the triceratops  which is nearby at 42 52.886, 147 19.649.  We have not listed it as a separate virtual cache due to its close proximity to the chungkingosaurus.

Sadly layar no longer seems to be active.

So I had to improvise a little.

Nice lighting for some fun at this hour.

Just cleaners and deliveries going on.

TFTV Very Happy

Out with the family on a week in Hobart and before lunch we decided to go and find some dinosaurs. I remember when these were first published and was very envious that they were so far away. Today we loaded up the app, grabbed the layer and we were off to see what we could find. We found a lot today and they were all very cool and fun to catch. Thanks for this series of virtual caches with a difference.

Surprised to find these virtual dinosaurs still roaming the streets of Hobart. Today we managed to capture their image and grab a smilie. Thanks DDTs for our dinosaur encounter we enjoyed the experience.

Have been wanting to do these virtuals for a long time and today was the day technology and the dinosaur gods aligned. Had lots of fun. TFTV

With a name of Chungkingosaurus, I guess the mall is a fitting place to hang out. This one was hiding behind a decorative metal screen. What an airhead, didn't it know I could see through it! TFTC

While out grabbing a few caches to start the new year off myself and Goose of GooseandEgg discovered a few Dinos on our travels.

Found under cover of darkness while in Hobart on business. Great idea. Pity the dinosaurs are no longer here. TFTC

We brought our pet Chungkingosaurus for a visit.

I don't have an appropriate device for running the required application, nor do I have a pet dinosaur to bring with me. I hope that a photo taken in the appropriate location showing lack of dinosaur activity is sufficient for logging a find on this cache.

Well, after visiting two nearby brothers of this big cute one, we were emboldened to visit another. What a boy! Old Chungy with that oh so cute grin...how could you resist him. He stood there placidly and smiled for his photo. He seemed to have rather a satisfied grin. I'm glad we did this one at night after he had his fill of eating people crossing against the red don't walk man during the day. Thankyou for the fun and finding a new way of viewing the city that we hadn't experienced before. TFTC.

The chungkingsaurus obviously lost its GPSr, because is got trapped behind this metal barrier at the end of the mall.

Nice quick find on a Sunday afternoon.

How many time have you see people running across the road here?
This is the first time I'v seem a Chungkingosaurus waiting at the lights.

Found this one with Geo Kid E after Soccer.

Interesting look - a Dinosaur with a soccer player in front of a busker in the mall.

I dont know if the busker know exactly what was going on but found the dinosaur and photo taken and all was good.

Thank you for the cache

Hi DDTs
Well, got home last night and went to log this cache and I realised I was at the wrong end of where I should be as the photo didn't match the name.
I'd only taken the GA numbers and the co-ords with me because I'm checking on Mum and Dad at the moment. Should have written down the names with the other onfo and all would have been sweet.
Found this guy's cousin down at UTAS as well.
Love these things. One minute there ain't nothing there and wammo a monster appears.
Thanks for introducing me to this virtual world. However, there are those that I always live in a world of virtuosity. Maybe, just maybe they could be right.
Cheers for now
OldSaint.

Just having a casual stroll through the bus mall. I wish this one was a maneater to clean up the streets

We found this fellow wandering around the mall when we were showing his friend how to use the GPSr - he was still there later when we had another look, but he was more used to us and we got a bit closer (perhaps knowing we were friendly this time!! Very Happy )
Thanks DDTs ! Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy
