Description
I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series.
Mittagong
View towards Katoomba
I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Mittagong is mentioned in the third verse.
The cache is hidden at the Katoomba Lookout on Mt Alexandra. The lookout has two new picnic tables & a safety fence. There are views over the Hume Highway far below, the Blue Mountains, the Nattai River valley, Mt Jellore & on the horizon to the north east, Sydney's CBD skyline. It would be ideal to do this cache at night but probably not in Winter. During Spring waratahs can be found along the fire trail. There are several tracks branching out from Lake Alexandra but the high winds this year means these are interrupted continuously by fallen timber. It would be best to drive to the parking area & walk up the fire trail, a short distance.
Once you have found the cache continue along the fire trail to the Alexandra Trig.
I have included four swaps - LED throwies made famous by Bundyrumandcoke at the OZ Mega Wagga, a set of path tags, a collection of polished stones & a GCA micro container. You are welcome to take one parcel leaving the others for future finders. Please leave something of value as well.
A pair of binoculars & a DSLR camera would be good companions.
The co-ordinates for the parking area are: S34 26.576 E150 27.227. The road (behind the lake) is steep but sealed.

Logs
We were in some higher terrain spots first, then after some muggles left checked a spot more in line with the T rating. A stick was used to probe, and soon the chunk of plastic was heard. 4 1/2yr unloved - that could be a record for a trad for us.... All in perfect condition too. Rehidden as found... TFTC!
Thanks Tuena.....weather was getting cooler and the walk up wasn't that bad. Cache in good condition.
Thanks,
Finally plucked up the gumption to climb up Mt Alexandra to seek out this cache. So much easier than last time now I have a proper gps. Wow I can't believe how close I was to these caches on my previous attempt. A little more experience apparently goes a long way. Caches are in good condition and still ample room in the logs. Beautiful views too. Off to find a TP now. Thanks for the caches Tuena.
I can't believe it's been that long since a cacher found this cache -wow !! although I guess that is what is to be expected with GA. The above cache condition applies to both caches. Thanks again Tuena.
I picked up Swaggie - Flaggie #4
A lovely walk if a little up hill. But, the view was unbelievable on a lovely spring day. What a fantastic spot. I think I could see Hazelbrook!?!
TFTC.
Easy-ish find - I spotted the hiding spot quickly, but didn't look deep enough at first glance. I was about to look to see if there was another hiding spot close by, but gave this spot another look & spotted the cache well back.
Thanks
Thanks!
Mistakenly thought I was searching for a trig, then read the cache details and realised it was a real cache...DOH!
I've been to the lookout a few times now and it is always worth the visit.

With not a lot of time this weekend, I decided this would be the best cache to find in Mittagong and so it turned out! Although I've been up this way before, I had never taken the detour to this lookout. It was quite late in the afternoon and the late sun was lighting the countryside with wonderful shades and colours.
The cache was easily found and I left a pathtag for the next GCA finder. We then continued on to Alexander Trig and noticed heaps of waratah plants along the way. I'll try to get back in a month or two as it ought to be a brilliant display of wildflowers then.
Thanks Tuena, a really outstanding spot
What an amazing view from there, I never knew you could see Katoomba from Mittagong, unfortunately I could not take any decent photos due to the mist in the distance.
I found the cache soon enough as the coords are spot on, signed the log and returned it to its hidey hole.
Thanks for the great cache and the magnificent views.
