Description
I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series |
I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Bangalow is mentioned in the fourth verse.
Bangalow is a small town just west of the Pacific Highway near Byron Bay. It's a quiet little town, with plenty of cafes in the main street. It's probably most known for it's markets. They draw plenty of locals and holiday makers - all keen on looking at or sampling the great food, clothes, art & crafts and music. They are held on the 4th Sunday of every month - 9am to 3pm The town also shares the same name as the iconic Australian 'Bangalow Palm' tree. Plenty of these in dotted around the town too. Apparently they have been declared a noxious weed in some countries. The cache is hidden in a small park on the road to Byron Bay. You are looking for a small sistema container. |

We drove from Byron to Lismore and back today, ending up with 10 finds (and a bonus 20 GC finds too). Its always fun to find ICEM caches - of course we had to listen to the song on YouTube after this to hear when they sing Bangalow! TFTC! Unfortunately it was all very wet inside....

Nice to find an ICEM cache today. We'd spent most of the day at the Nut House (the macadamia castle thing) with the kids and came for a bit of a drive afterwards.
We stopped right near GZ and soon made the find. The cache is wet but I was able to scibe our name carefully onto the log.
Sorry, didn't have any replacement bits on hand.
Thanks MattyRx

The Bangalow ICEM is located in a wetland well-hidden by trees and shrubs. I climb through the bushes and no-one suspects there is a cacher in pursuit. I am starting to think there is a common theme of installing caches amongst lomandras and now thistles.
The cache has not been found for some time. The log is a little damp and there is some mould inside the cache.
I take care emerging from the bushes. There are afternoon sporting activities in progress with football and the thwack of tennis balls being hit on the courts over the road. TFTC MattyRx.

traveling home today, after getting to spend most of the day with my youngest in the gold coast, I decided to see what GCA caches were on my route. saw this and a trig so took the small detour through Bangalow to find them.
I decided to read the hint rather than waste precious daylight so it was a quick and easy find.
thanks for hiding this one MattyRx.

Day 75 Mainland trip
Out and about caching around Byron Bay and surrounds with Tassie Trekkers and we stopped to locate another cache in the ICEM series. Glad to tick another off the list. TFTC

Caching in the area with whitewebbs on a wet and cloudy day and this was one of the caches we found. Had to wait for the rain to stop before making a quick find. Log damp but usable. Nice to find another ICEM.
Many thanks MatttyRx for publishing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

On our way to family for Christmas so stopped by here to locate the cache. TFTC
Now we can see how this old original ICEM has remained safe for so many years - GZ has guardians that would keep anything less than a hardened geocacher out. Exactly what's needed in this busy little metropolis, especially when the markets are on. So in I went..... came out with shoelaces undone, hair sticking out and brushing off bits of bush and spiderwebs. Probably looked like I'd had a really wild time. I had..... I found the cache! Found on the way to the Bangalow Market this morning. Things were a little damp, so they had a drying out session while I fed, shopped and window shopped, and now all is back in place.

#GA2735 - 11:10; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. Following a successful run through to Cape Byron, we continued our journey along some interesting and at times rather rough roads before getting to the highway and on to Brunswick Heads then Kingscliff. Having reached our northern most point, we started the trek south. After missing the turn off due to older maps and newer roads, we finally got to Bangalow where the hunt in the long grass was rewarded with a find on this cache. TFTC xMagoo2u

Day 5 of the trip up the NSW coast with LuckyL10n after the Morisset event. Today was from Ballina to Kingscliff and back to Kempsey. A few more caches grabbed, with most being trigs...
This was the local ICEM cache so was pleased to make the find. The grass is rather long at the moment, however that helps to keep the cache safe from prying eyes. It was wedged in well, but all was good the log was soon signed.
Thanks for the cache xMagoo2u...another ICEM crossed off.

I stopped off again at this one to boost my numbers for the Summer Game. TFTC Cache still in good condition although the vegetation around GC is much larger now.
We then went to grab some drinks from the local grocery shop and bumped into Pete Murray.

I found this one in late December 2016 on a short trip down the coast to see my parents. I think this was my second traditional GCA cache despite being a cacher for over 18 months, there are not too many traditional hides in QLD. I was accompanied by WillPunkey as well on this one.
Cache in good condition.

Found with MummyPenny and a muggle friend today. Eagle-eyed muggle spotted it and pulled it out after I'd pulled back the dense covering that's grown up all around it. A bit of moisture inside and the log is a bit damp and frail but that's not surprising after 5 years laying dormant here. I think this is only our second ICEM; the last was at Jabiru in the territory. Thanks xMagoo2u.

On the way over to Brunswick with the kids we stopped in to grab Barred Stutter and this cache as well. It's actually a rather lovely little spot.

Boy oh boy... we turned into town and it was *so* busy.... the markets were on. While it would have been nice to browse through the stalls we had other things on our agenda.
We found the cache without too much difficulty and left a frog from the 2011/2012 Leap Frog Race (GA3923 - Barred Stutterer) so the next cache/frog finder could have two for one.
Thanks for the cache and perhaps next time we'll be in a better position to explore the markets.

Logged this one found on my phone but obviously it didn't go through. Anyway.... I found this after a beautiful lunch at the pub with some friends. Bit hard to work out where to park though as I didn't want to walk too far in the rain. Think I ended up walking across someones house yard. It wasn't fenced but am still feeling a bit guilty. Cache was found quickly and log signed. Also today I found a frog for the cache race. Great caching day all round. TNLNSL
