Description

The Wollongong contribution to the ICEM series.

I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Wollongong is mentioned in the third verse.

The cache is located in a nice part of Wollongong, Gilmore Park.  The park is part of the Fairy Creek Flood Mitigation Scheme. Easiest parking is on Reserve St, near the Gilmore Tennis Courts. Terrain is easy but not wheel chair accessible. There doesn't seem any restrictions on dogs in the park, there is a small playground for the kids and sometimes the toilets are open if people are playing tennis. But watch out, that basin can get muddy!

The cache is a sistema container suitable for small swaps, coins and bugs. A pencil is included with the log.

It should be fairly muggle-free although the path is a bit of a short-cut to the local school in the morning and afternoon. Maybe caution is required around those times..... The small patch of bush is home to a number of kookaburras. It is a beautiful thing to hear them singing on a warm summer afternoon. So enjoy a stroll in Gilmore Basin.

Today I made the area of northern Wollongong unsafe with my geocaching activities. 23 finds, six GCA ones, two puzzles. A good time was had by all! Errr me.

This one is a goner, except for the container: no log, full of water. Still a nice one to visit, just not to log.

Nice cache, though as others have reported a little damp and there was no log inside. Also the camouflage has been returning to nature and is no longer attached. TFTC

Took me awhile to turn this one up!!! great disguise Cool
moisture has got in again and the last note left has disintegrated!
TFTC! Very Happy

Well I made hard work of this one, it took me 3 goes to find the entry to the park but once there GZ was soon found.
The cache however was harder to locate after 2 years unfound. In the end I did find it somewhat buried under leaves.
The cache is there in good condition but quite empty, no log book no nothing! I only had a page from my note book to put in for the next finder to sign, most likely in another 2 years!
Thanks for the cache and the great camo, loved it

Checked today and all present. No log inside as it is pretty damp. Put a moveable inside.

Until someone finds it or I return to check on it.

Time for a new Wollongong ICEM!

This cache can be very difficult to find at time. Due to its camo, it blends in very well. It is unlikely to be muggled but could be affected by earth works.

The sistema is attached on the underside of a piece of wood. The piece of wood sits at ground level and the cache is actually in a slot under the ground. Hence why it gets wet.

I will archive it. As I no longer live in Wollongong, I cannot check on it. When I do return one day, if I find it, I will unarchive it.

Cheers

Have looked for this one a couple of times, was just wondering if this cache may have been removed because of the recent earth works?
Thanks Smile

I did not want to spend too long looking before heading back to Sydney, and having not found it after a few minutes I moved on to the next closest cache and found that instead, as well as some munzees.
maybe next time.....

Certainly a little easier second time round - once I remembered I had been here before! Cache contents soaked, so I resorted to signing a leaf before adding it to the cache. Thanks Fluffyfish for the cache

GCA 230 - 4384. The next find in Wollongong for "McFitzdeLune7" - McPhan, Myself, Sol de Lune and ZsaZsa7.

I remember finding this one when it was a GC Cache ("A Stroll in Gilmore Basin" - GC1TGY2), couldn't remember the twist though and it was SDL who came up with the find. Thanks (again) fluffyfish !

TFTC !!

(Apologies for the original blank log, not sure what happened...)

Found with McPhan and fitzy_1965 on our weekend run through Wollongong. A neat little hide that had us stumped for a few mintues. All turned out well though when we managed to grab it.

TFTC and the fun...

462. Fitzy_1965 thought that he had found this but we all went in anyway and Sol de lune kicked the bucket. Well the cache at least. Thankful that he did as it's a really well done hide and would be easily overlooked. Does need a more waterproof way of sealing however as it's very wet.

TFTC and the twang.

I had considerable trouble finding it when it was a GC cache but no problems today. I'm getting better at this activity. Thanks.

Found just after it's transition from GC to GCA, and it's such a clever camo, long may it live!

TFTC, fluffyfish!
