Great Northern escape 2022 Day 42. Cooktown Day 1. For my first day in Cooktown I headed out to Endeavour falls. I was welcomed warmly in the shop as I checked in for my walk to the falls. It was just a short trip across their fantastic caravan park. Looks like a great place to stay if you could cope without internet. The falls are very close and were in fine form, even a few other visitors around.
I was unable to look for this one as the park is closed due to too much water at the moment.
Thanks

We spent quite a while searching for Gorf after doing a desperate mozzie dance and quickly returning to the geomobile for insect repellant.
We then returned and searched for quite a while....the GPS was having trouble settling on a definite GZ but we extended our search for quite a way using the hint as a guide

Gorf has moved to Tropical North Queensland.
He's now happily residing near permanent water at Keatings Lagoon, known as Mulbabidgee to the local Waymbuurr people, just south of Cooktown.
He's very close to a wheelchair accessible path - no need to leave it to find - from the small carpark to the bird hide. Probably best not to tow a big caravan in here - turning around could be a problem.
I dropped him off just before sunset, after a pleasant 20 minutes enjoying the birdlife in the lagoon from the hide. We saw Rajah Shellduck, Magpie Geese, Jacana and egrets.

Gorf has come over for a cuppa, and told me it's a bit dry for him here on the banks of The Jordan River. He's asked for a ride to the coast, and I'm happy to help out.
I'll drop him off once we're in green frog country.

Sincerest apologies for making Gorf do such a huge leap, but wanted him in an area where there will hopefully be lots of people soon to find him. Well within a month or so! We have really enjoyed his company and who knows who will find him next!
Huge thanks to Pa who agreed to chauffeur me around a 100 kms circuit starting in and ending in Uralla today. Second find in this little area so am taking him travelling for a little while.

We've got smarter since we picked up Gorf, we now know how it got its name ...... yeah, so you don't have to be that smart. We also got a bit tied up with Christmas and relies and didn't get to put Gorf back out into the wild as soon as we should have. Done it now. Located close to the New England Highway but best accessed from Barley Fields Road. Happy travels Gorf!
Not a lot of choice for moveables in SEQ - unless we had the time and inclination to drive all over Brisbane looking for caches that might/might not be there, which we didn't. So when this appeared we came to find it and being amongst a trail of newly published and unfound caches we had even more incentive to take off for the Logan Village wilds. GORF . . . yeah, no idea about that name but thrilled to find it. TFTC Tassie Trekkers.

We have moved GORF to a new location. He sits quietly and well hidden nestled in a stump. We have placed him in amongst a series that we are currently publishing as part of the Dragon Zone States of the Nation Challenge.
I thought i had better check on him as the previous cacher could not locate him. I have picked him up and will move him agsin

Still at the posted co ordinates.
I thought about taking it with me to Alexandra and was back in the main part of Toowoomba when my tired brain remembered that I was going to take it for a drive. Oh well, some one else will have to move him. Quick look whilst in town for the GIFF event. I know this area pretty well and had no problem finding a spot to park. Short walk. TFTC Tassie Trekkers.

I was planning to take this little Froggy on a trip but instead I will drop it in Toowoomba as there is an event nearby later today. There was no log book, nor can I see where the log book would have been attached.
I did a quick drop with my iphone so a hint might be needed.

Nearly went for this till I read the full found log and saw that GORF is no longer in residence.

We had some bad storms a few days ago and I was wondering about this little fellow. Friday was ride to School day and WillPunkey and I often ride past this spot on our way home so we found him a little wet and was probably submerged during the storm but thanks to some good camouflage with rocks he was safe and sound. I don’t know where I might place him, Perhaps Brisbane or maybe 1200km north near Townsville if I go there for work in a couple of weeks

Finally moved Gorf to the East whilst visiting friends. Good luck on your journey home to Tassie my friend.
Remembered my wellies today and have collected Gorf for a return to civilisation.
Came back to grab Gorf today, but with some recent rain he's a little bit water logged. I'll be back with some wellies to grab him before a trip over east to get him a bit closer to home!
Sorry, forgot to take a photo of the wee chap! He is still looking fairly good considering. The surgeon did a good job!
New spot near a pond of the highway. Nice little walking track here too.
Hopefully he can get a bit further north to try and complete his Aus trip!

Ok sorry for the delay - we will put Gorf out shortly. BTW he had a little colony of large ants living inside of him. Each day they came out and walked around our desk. We have had him in the garden while we were away in Europe and I suppose that they h ave moved out by now.
Doing some maintenance on our caches in the area and had to walk right by Gorf's 'last known address"! Well he was still there waiting patiently for someone to collect him. We have bought him home and will place him out again if he is unarchived.
First time trying (new activity with kids) but couldn't find. Is it north of the fence in private property ?
I can try again perhaps with a more accurate GPS device.

I was please to find this cache, not because there was anything difficult about it but because the coords in my gps hadn't been updated from a previous location. Thankfully I had an aerial view printout of the caches in the area and managed to find the cache using this instead. Will move on to a new location soon.
no wonder Why we Couldn't find it! Grrr as he is already on the move! this is our 1st cache, and we didn't know what to expect, we spent hours looking! fun day though.
Dropped by to snaffle up Gorf, and will move him to a new hiding place soon! Thanks for the Tassie Trekkers!
FlyingPigSquadron has landed! Found a nice shady spot to rest a while.

Gorf has had a good rest and is now ready to move on.
Picked up this morning - the race is over and it is quite a relief not having to move it immediately.
Dropped off to carry on partying, now with only 3 friends at the local frog lodge

Gorf is now close to the beach, overlooking a wonderful marine park
Gorf was found in the same spot I had placed some other frogs a short time ago. The large Gum Tree had shed some branches in the recent heat wave, so it is time to move this frog before the council clean up team arrives.
Will move to a new spot on the way to work tommorrow.

I went for a Sunday ride while the rest of the geofamily where having a bit of chill out time. Not really sure where I wanted to ride to I decided to grab a couple of the frogs in the area and then do some cache maintenance.
First stop was here to grab the two frogs sitting by a dry pond. The coordinates were spot on and within moments of arrival I had the frogs in hand and was out of there.
I then spent five minutes walking around looking for my motorcycle bike key that I dropped somewhere along the way!!!
Thanks for the frog

Left him with a couple of friends this morning.
With 'Nameste' & Terracroaka in base of multi trunked tree under Sheoak needles. There is a large pond nearby and lots of flowers, it is a very, very restful location.
The surgeon has done an excellent job, though I am told that Gorf is still experiencing some extreme headaches. Having been released from hospital, Gorf is heading north to Perth to rest and recuperate at a seaside spa.
