Description

This is one of two webcams that have been placed on the Race Control tower of the Canberra Yacht Club. This one points in a north easterly direction and has the National Museum and the corner of Commonwealth Ave Bridge in its field of view.

These webcams have been placed here to assist sailors to get an indication of the conditions on Lake Burley Griffin before coming down to sail.

This is the easier of the two, however, please be aware that the webcams here do often stop working and can take a week or two to be restored.  Please feel free to log a note if you notice it is down.  Also you may need to remain at GZ for up to 5mins as they only update that often, and obviously you can only collect these in the daylight hours.

In order to log this cache you will need to obtain a screen shot of the webcam with you in the picture holding your GPSr and upload it with your log.

As I mentioned, this is the easy one as there is a small piece of dry land in the foreground in which you can stay dry and collect this cache – no such luck with its companion, Lake Burley Griffin - Webcam #2 which you will need specialised equipment or the desire to get wet to claim.

You can find the webcam at www.canberrayachtclub.com.au/webcam/cam.htm and is the lower picture on the page.  The upper picture is for geocaching.com.au/cache/ga3865

Out on a go-boat hire with a total of seven Tasmanian teams and one banana bender Wink to pick up a few D5s on the lake. We had enough time to hover around for the 2 webcams here.

I started by finding a few caches around the MEGA ground. Next, I headed out with AngusnmumyAdventures and LilDonnasAdventure to enjoy the fun that the ‘Clear Waters’ mega event has to offer. We also collected some caches around the Canberra to try and fill in our ‘Cacheopoly’ board. Lots of fun and creative hides were found that were on the list to find and also some bonus finds. Big Grin Some of which were GCA finds for me. After finding the answers to claim a find on ‘The Federation Rocks!’ we headed off in our separate ways. Most were quick finds and were great to see that they were all maintained and in good shape. TB visit on all caches and most were signed as AMA, LDA & JM to save time and space. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring enjoyment to me and the caching community. Big Grin TFTC’s Big Grin

My first and second ever Webcam cache finds. Mr. GreenVery HappySmile Great fun and I think I have webcam fever because I want to find more now! Mr. GreenVery HappySmile

Here for family birthday fish and chips, it was a great opportunity to come over to the tower and the webcam. Stood around with teenage helpers showing me how incompetent I was on the I-GPSr apps! Anyway after a refresh the attached image appeared - how cool. This is only the second webcame cache I've done. Thanks Jusojara! By the way I think the web address for the webcam has changed slightly, it might be worth a minor update to the description.
Thanks for the fun this afternoon.
Cheers

A super nice day in the Nation's capital, so I threw the kayak on the roof racks and headed out to Lake Burley Griffin. This webcam cache was first on the list. With some careful placement of the kayak and regularly checking the iPhone, I soon found myself "on screen".
Thanks Jusojara for the cache. One that's been on the list for a long time.

The first of 2 webcams here...but this one is land based. Headed down with LuckyL10n and after a few teething problems with the equipment, we got everything going and soon had our mugs on the camera....

Thanks again jusojara.....happy to knock these two off after a couple of years.

#GA1126 - 11:20; Sol de lune and I have had this webcam and its partner on our 'to do' lists for some time and today was the day. Arrived at the Yacht Club and after some initial teething problems, managed to set up the laptop where I could actually see the screen and particularly the mouse. Tried a couple of positions without success, but a quiet word with a nice muggle in the Canberra Yacht Club office downstairs, confirmed the cameras were on and roughly the area we needed to stand to get ourselves into the frame. Sdl went first and after I managed to grab the screen shot, it was my turn. I moved a little further to the left and Sdl soon declared the screen shot taken. Mission accomplished on this one, but its partner will have to await our return with the watercraft before it can be taken off the list. TFTC jusojara ClappingDancingVery HappyClan Cerberus

Couldn't get the webcams to work this morning.....so no smiley for me....

I don't know what I was thinking. It was pitch black, raining, and I had to crash a wedding, but I was there.

16-Oct-13
Found with the canoe caching event a very long time ago. I am just logging previous finds now.

Found while out doing some lunch time caching.

Well that was a bit challenging - hopped on the website to discover the webcams were down again. I rang the club and they fixed the problem, but they went down again. Another call en route had them working again. Little Buds and I got to GZ, and after a false start (ie we stood in the wrong place) home base snapped a pic.

Conditions were horrible, the strong wind made the picture blurry and the overcast made it a bit dull. You can barely tell its a person, let alone who, but rest assured both Buds & I were there!

Visited the yacht club today, but it seems the webcams are down.

*needs maintenance* Wink

543. Didn't do this one at the event as you have to save some for a non-rainy day. Nicked out after work and had McPhanKid at home base to snap the shot. He was amused I was so small, but I'm not sure what he was expecting - a close up? Saw an amazing cloud formation on the way home so that's a bonus.

Bugger!
So close.
Mrs Sam n SmirkingRatChild were taken for a fly by GUIO.
It was a great day for a sail so they cruised up the lake at an altitude of 0 feet.
As they were passing Nara Park I realised that they were going to make full frame in the web cam!

The chase cars chased and we ran for the control tower but couldn't coordinate the technology to make the find.

Was here for the boating event, but it was too hard to tell if I was in the picture or not... So I came back today, and took a webshot using the iPhone....

Hey, great to find this one and log it, as with the others we were at the event. Many thanks Mc Kenna.

31-Dec-11
Found this with the mass of others for the kayaking event. Cleaned up all the lake caches and MBO kindly operated the webcam whilst we assembled en masse. We're in that photo somewhere.

31-Dec-11
Wow, that was lucky - we were waiting in the wrong place for Web Cam #2, and got snapped here as well during the great KCC - Kayaking, Caching in Canberra event! I'm in the kayak just to the right of the vertical rope.

31-Dec-11
Found as part of a mass onslaught on the lake caches. I think I was off in the distance in this pic.

31-Dec-11
Found as part of the Canoe Cacheing event, had Mrs O319 on camera duty back home. had not intended to do this one, but found out on my return that she had saved shots from both cameras. Feel free to use the shot if you can make yourself out.

31-Dec-11
Found with the owner, mtrax, batgirl and corvettepete. I have been given the photo for this group. As we were the tail ends of the group. Was relaxing watching as everyone canoed by us today TFTC

31-Dec-11
As mentioned by Batgirl, we had an adventure getting to this cache. Luckily the caching rules do not prevent outside assistance so we can claim this even though we were towed most of the way. We managed to move under our own power soon after doing this cache. TFTC

31-Dec-11
Made it by the skin of our teeth! "Us" being Mr and Mrs CorvettePete and I. After an attempt to re-arrange seating caused a capsize (just next to the shore so thankfully no damage and no problems other than a loss of time whilst we righted ourselves). Much thanks to GUIO for pointing out the issue and once fixed it was all ahead full....only problem was we were by now SOOOOOO far behind everyone else. Luckily Jusojara came along with his power and towed us over to the webcam site just as everyone else was leaving. Phone calls to mbo to see if he was still available for photo taking meant that we were able to nab both of these.

we Waited another five mintues for this one alas we missed the larger group just earlier.
Nice to grab this one cheers jusojara

A lovely mid morning just sitting beside the lake consulting my gps and a MtnLioness snaps me from afar. Very Happy

29-Nov-11
A late lunch and a some new caches available around town so I decided to head off and enjoy the lunchtime weather with a little walk.

Arrived at GZ and had a little time available before the next update so watched the school kids having fun on the lake in the cats.

Grabbed the required shot and back to work. I think the other cache will have to wait as I had no desire to have a swim this afternoon.

Thanks for the cache Jusojara
