Hi Tassyexplorer
Walking to this cache along side the river was an experience.
Surprised to see crabs crawling along the river bank.
Found and logged the cache at 1331hrs.
Straight up to the wheel in the bush from here.
Cheers OldSaint.

My goodness, that was an adventure while finding this cache. I rather rashly and confidently took a compass bearing from Steam wheel and headed off for this cache and was a little too far to the south in my direction. I found myself crashing through medium dense shrubs and was able to enjoy the flowering banksias while the terrain became steeper and steeper as I inadvertently strayed into the steep ravine. I found the GPS'r, turned it on and found that it was never going to find a satellite in the current location so I crawled my way north and found a cutting to follow though the dense creek shrubbery, not realizing at the time that I was on the actual mule track. The bush cleared, the GPSr found the satellites and I had only about 15 m to go so I was pretty elated with the excursion. Lots of fun, thanks Tassieexplorer.
Found on our find the caches published since our last visit to the coast trip and this was one of them. Followed the river track till the GPS told us to head up. Came up right on the cache. Very peaceful spot TFTC

Rather than backtrack from GA4241 "Steam Wheel In the Bush" and approach from the river, we dedide to bush bash our way down the slope to this cache. Although the scrub was more dense than what we had encountered previously, it wasn't too bad. However, as warned, it was quite slippery from the dry leaves and we had to go quite carefully. Once within about 30m of GZ we had to bush bash our way through medium scrub to GZ. Luckily we approached from such an angle that the cache was see clearly from about 5m away making for an easy find. We then had to bush bash our away for about 200m to get back to the clearings and tracks. TFTC TassyExplorer
There was a fair labyrinth of trails around the scout hut (felt a bit like trespassing through their grounds but I guess it was okay; there was no one else around...) Not sure which trail we were meant to follow so just blindly followed the GPS. Within about 90m of the cache all signs of a clear walking trail more or less disappeared, and it was all bush-bashing from there on. Lots of prickly bushes and sword grass. Didn't know if we were going the right way but as there didn't seem to be an obvious trail we plunged onwards and upwards, trusting the GPS, and eventually came out upon the cache, easily seen in plain view beside the mule track.
Phew, that was a bit more bush-bashy than expected, but we got there. Thanks for the bit of history.

Found my way in along a maze of tracks..then coming to the river and a short distance along the bank before turning uphill a short distance to the cache. I thought all was going astray until spotting the cache and then the narrow mule track. Amazing the places the old timers were able to get to. Another nice bit of history...many thanks for the cache Tassyexplorer...Cheers.
