By crikey it rained just before I set off to find this cache. The footy grounds flooded and the creeks ran, and so did the old highway. The little torrent washed the debris off the road while I walked along. I really enjoyed this little excursion and when I found the cache I had to wonder about the bridge that must have once spanned the river. I must return here with he Eyrettes by canoes becasue the river valley is very pretty. Thanks Tassieexplorer for bringing me here on this wet afternoon.
Found on our find the caches published since our last visit to the coast trip and this was one of them. No muggles about today, after a short search the cache was found. Thanks for showing us a place not visited before and for the cache.

It was great walking down the middle of the old highway with the white lines still visable. All quiet there today and so we made a quick find. Maybe lucky to go straight to the right rock first up,lol. TFTC

Both of us can vaguely remember the highway crossing the Blyth Riv er at this point. It was a long trip along the coast with the highway: going through the centres of Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin and Burnie; going from Devonport to Ulverstone via Forth; Ulverstone to penguin via the Old Coast Road; and the trip up the Blyth River to cross at a narrow point. The Building of bridges closer to the coast at the Blyth and Turners Beach and the bypassing of some tiowns ceratinly made the coastal driv e faster and safer. Coing back to the location of this cache today certainly brought back some memories. Once we had scrambled down the bank, a quick find was made. TFTC TassyExplorer
Quite an interesting place that we certainly never knew existed! Surprising where bits of the old highway show up. The climb down the embankment had to be done with care as it was very steep and slippery. At first I thought there were lots of little crevices where a micro might be, but by expanding our search to places we thought it *wasn't*, we came up with the goods. Thanks for bringing us here.
Oh yeah, this marks our 700th cache find!

This cache was the start of quite an enjoyable days caching in the area. The hide wasn't immediately obvious due to a quite high tide which made retrieval a bit more interesting. Would have traveled over this bridge some 41 yrs ago when first started work at Smithton. Nice bit of history and was now looking forward to finding the other two in the scrub. Many thanks for an interesting cache Tassyexplorer...and a FTF as well with quite a nice pin...Cheers.
