Description

Find cache first then venture onto old mine adit carefully.

Drive and park car at S41 10 289 E146 03 173, which will be besides the walking track to Cradle Mountain. Take track through the bush not the steep road downhill. Follow this walking track to find a the cache. If you wish contuine on walking track to the Leven River for a look (gander). It is what the outdoors is about. You will cross the Dial Creek further on just before the river. The mine adit is S41 10 506 E146 03 283. You can make a way through the bush if eager from this track. Not too thick but chest height in places. From Cache spot mine adit is about 363 meters with a decent of 45 meters. Mine adit found on cliff face just above creek water line at co-ords you should be in the creek. Tall timber could make readings drop out keep GPS turned on or signal could be lost. Do not try finding adit from the road leading to Leven River on southern side of Dial Creek, as a drop of 11 meters from this track will be encounted on a cliff face. With slippery green growth including moss. Remember while walking up creek the country rocks in the creek are very slippery. Even for four paws. My dog has been to all my  hidden caches as he loves the bush too. So many manferns here it is like fairy land. The creek can be crossed over in many places but very slippery surface out of water and in the creek water on rocks. ------- Update again, after being in the bush on that extra rainy day friday 30th March I walked back and forth to the car four times to take a waypoint at the cache. Each time it was a few meters out from the last reading. Tall timber will give driffrent readings as we all must know. I took the average to put in the coords section. Behind a stump on the north of the track. Me and the dog went to the mine adit also and put a cache there also. As there was not one there to be found before this date. I thought people would like to find the old mine adit. Well a cache at S41 10 463 E146 03 257 is only small but oposite the adit on the other side of the creek the northern side the side you should walk up. Walking up the creek bank from the walking track is much easier. Now from the adit , the beauty of the area is upstream by just around a small bend is a rock pool and a small water fall over some slanting rocks, very nice. Enjoy the outdoors here as it was wet this friday afternoon, and I enjoyed it.

Thought I'd have a go at deciphering the info for this cache. Found first cache ok...co-ords out a little only...then ventured off to mine adit...which was found easily enough. Kept going upstream a little and came to small rapid/waterfall with big pond below....but mystery cache had me some 30m or so above the rapids. With no hint I didn't bother to look as didn't seem right or fit with info being opposite the adit.
Enjoyed the short hike and found the adit very interesting...but wonder how many will actually bother to see it. A very interesting place..so many thanks Tassyexplorer...cheers.

We thank Tassyexplorer for following up on our previous log and checking the coordinates for this cache. Obviously there was an error with the previous set of coordinates as the new ones were 54m away from the previous GZ in a northerly direction. Being a beautiful morning and having an hour before another commitment we decided that we would head off and look for this cache again but limit ourselves to 15 minutes of searching. We always enjoy the area around GZ - it is a very relaxing area with a great variety of flora and wonderful bush smells after rain. As we arrived at the parking location we heard the magnificent calls of at least four frogs and these were very close to the trail - we looked and couldn't see them. We didn't want to disturb their environment by shifting logs and twigs etc. Our GPS took us to an area where there were a number of locations consistent with the description. We found the cache behind the third stump we looked at. Finally, this cache was in hand and a FTF as well. Thank You Tassyexplorer. We just regret that the coordinates for the cache were not accurate in the first place as it would have saved a lot of frustration for both the cache owner and geocachers looking for the cache. We did not continue on to the adit because of a lack of time. However we were bemused by the latest update to the description saying there was an additional cache placed at the adit but a new cache has not been published meaning that the finder cannot log their find. We guess that the new listing will be published very soon.

Since Sirius Tas had completed the initial search and was not successful, we thought, that after the information had been updated, it was our turn to try to locate this cache. We are sorry to report that we also did not have any success. The coordinates for the parking area were fine. We headed off down the walking track and reached a point where the cache was 54m at right angles to the direction of walking (to the southern side of the track). We set off into the bush and cutting grass and, after a short time, got to GZ. We started our search looking in stumps, under logs and in clumps of cutting grass. We gradually widened our search and ended up combing an area of about 20m radius from where our GPS indicated GZ should be. No joy. We double checked more likely hiding spots but no cache. In all the two of us spent about 90 minutes looking. Either the small cache is too good a hide to be found in a reasonable time in that environment or the coordinates are still well off. We would appreciate the CO's reactions to the description of where we looked. Like Sirius, we will not be returning until the cache is found by another cacher or there is confirmation that the coordinates are accurate and that the cache is still in place.

This cache is shown as being in the middle of the Leven River...so I'd say the co-ords are out too???

Thanks for the cache but this virtual appears incomplete. What task(s) have to be completed and what evidence (information from the site, photos etc) is required to prove that the task(s) have been completed?
