Description

A beautiful walk on the east side of the Wilmot River

Lucy's Track

Park in the second parking area, about 800m from the Wilmot Bridge. ( S41° 16.566  E146° 13.341 )
The track is about 20m south of the car park, western side of the road. Look for the tyres !
Follow this link for a Street View
After jumping the fence, decend to the Wilmot River (11 zig zags!)

Proceed south to the co-ordinates.

Please Note:

  • Take care - the track is slipery, narrow and rocky in parts. Children require close supervision.
  • There is no Telstra phone reception (well not for me ...) So if you are using a smart phone, store the cache offline
  • Expect to take 1 1/2 hours to the final cache.
  • There is a lovely little table in the open area known as "The Valley"
  • Extra info about the tracks in the area can be found here: http://billshep1.wordpress.com/

The track in an enchanting wander though various amazing river locations and light scrub / forest.
All those involved have done a most amazing job with the tracks.

Enjoy the walk !

Had a reasonably good look for this one but no go today.

A return visit after not quite finishing this area back in Jan, not a chance a our group of 5 could leave this series unfinished.
Took a few minutes to track this one down, first for the day and not quite into the swing yet but it was in place and in good condition.

A while back now, we hatched a plan to come back and finish this glorious trail and series over Easter. The same 5 of us hit the trail on Good Friday, starting from the top of the zig-zag (where we ended last time) in absolutely perfect weather.

This was our first cache and we were not quite 'in the zone' as we kept missing it until Paul came over and found it easily. This one survived the floods! Thanks Spreyton22

After missing out on these last few when we were all up this way in January today was the return trip so we could clean them up.

This was the first one we came to and to be honest I was thinking it was going to be a tough one to find since its been so long since it was found, well it was tough for me since I didnt find it Paul did, I think we replaced the bag around the log on this one after we had signed our names and replaced the cache as found.

Its been a great walk so far with the sun out showing us the way and brightening our day.

Thanks to the Spreyton22 for placing this cache in the first place and getting us out of the house.

After completing some of the caches on the Spellman's Bridge end of the Dooley Trail a couple of weeks ago we decided to tackle the Alma Bridge end today. Having come in from the end of Jamieson's Road we were on the wrong side of the river for this the first cache on our list. Mrs Beetle volunteered to cross the river and grab this one. A quick find was made and then as the next one was also on the eastern side Mr Beetle, our muggle daughter and the 3 dogs were called across.
Thanks, seeing these caches start less than 5 kms from our house there is really no valid reason for us not to have attempted them before.

Set out on a sunny warm day to do this series. From an initial glance at Google maps I thought it might be along Dooleys Track which we walked a couple of years ago doing Sirius's series, but happy to see that this trail was on the other side of the river where we hadn't walked before. Also assumed the carpark was the same as Dooleys, so was surprised ending up at the parking coords and wondering where on earth the start of the track was... but we soon found it and began a pleasant walk down the hill and along the river to the first cache, which was found easily. Thanks.

We have had this series and some nearby caches on our radar for some time but, with one thing or another, we hadn't got there. We made a firm decision to tackle them earlier this week, then the weather became too hot - we are not hot weather walkers. So, with the cool change over night, we set off this morning. We found "Lucy's Track" quite quickly and went down the zigs ans zags along to the river. Once down in the river valley it was a truely wonderful walk. We were sheltered from the winds, it was warm with a cool breeze and the scenery was magnificent. As we wandered along the Wilmot River up to Ellis Flats we were entertained by many birds (the black cockatoos were particularly noisy today)and a range of animals in the scrub - heard many but saw a few. We also saw a couple of quite big black snakes - we kept our distance and so did they. As well as a great experience (one of the best caching experiences we have had), we were very pleased that we didn't see one piece of rubbish. Great to see that people respect the area. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The container was in good condition but the log was a little damp - sorry we didn't have any plastic bags with us to give better protection. TFTC Spreyton22 and for bringing us on this really great walk.

Hi spreyton 22.I had a great day finding your caches today.Very hot walk today,I think there is a lot less water in the wilmot river today from me stopping for drinks. The wildlife through here is amazing, Wallabies everyware an echidna heaps of fish in the river also, plus two snakes on the track a big one that took a bit of budging.Ran into a man that was just getting out from the river who was skinny dipping Embarassed ,He was clearing the track from the recent winds and spraying the foxgloves.Loved this track which is a good training walk to prepare for multi day walks. Thanks and cheers for now (etrexer)

We set out on a lovely spring day on a mission to find this series of caches. The track was very well maintained and we enjoyed walking beside the river and taking a journey on a track not visited before. The fungi was amazing and the varying terrains through rainforest to gumtrees made it more enjoyable. Thanks for bringing us here and for placing the caches we had a great day.

The Wilmot river would make a great white water rafting course at the moment. It was fair honking Razz Luckily the track was only missing in a few places due to the high level and the rope at the hairy bit makes that very safe. The distance was just nice for our group and the photo opportunities were endless. We chatted and laughed the whole way there and back and I would be pushed to pick a favourite cache as I loved them all Razz Thanks Spreyton22 Cool

After a couple of brief stops this morning this was the start of our more significant walk for the day. The cache series was extremely enjoyable, and this was a great start!

Hi Spreyton22
The Fab Four from the southern end of the state; red tag, Dippi, Team Natty Dean and moi; came across this cache and logged it at 1114hrs. We spent a bit of time taking photographs here, particularly of the fungi nearby.
Enjoyed the find;
TFTC and cheers,
OldSaint.

Great first cache in the series. Your pictures of one of the stepping stone crossings are amazing as the river is so full at the moment with not even any evidence of them below the fast moving and swirling currents. I loved this cache location - the fungi there were amazing and it just seemed to be an interesting log to poke around! I love this track! Thanks for the cache, spreyton22 - the series is fantastic.

Well...I thought south meant downhill....easy mistake to make.

Arrived at the allotted parking area and promptly got my north and south mixed up. Decided to bush bash down the gully which was quite difficult. Finally arrived at the river and picked up the track. Misty rain soon had me fairly wet but thankfully the weather was mild.
Cache easily found, coords good.
On to the next one......

Please take note that the track is south of the car park.
That's SOUTH - toward Antarctica ...

A little song to get us started ...

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
