Description

A beautiful walk on the east side of the Wilmot River

Lucy's Track

Park in the second parking area, about 800m from the Wilmot Bridge. ( S41° 16.566  E146° 13.341 )
The track is about 20m south of the car park, western side of the road.
Follow this link for a Street View
After jumping the fence, decend to the Wilmot River (11 zig zags!)

Proceed south to the co-ordinates.

Please Note:

  • Take care - the track is slipery, narrow and rocky in parts. Children require close supervision.
  • There is no Telstra phone reception (well not for me ...) So if you are using a smart phone, store the cache offline
  • Expect to take 1 1/2 hours to the final cache.
  • This cache does not have a pencil (BYO)
  • There is a lovely little table in the open area known as "The Valley"
  • Extra info about the tracks in the area can be found here: http://billshep1.wordpress.com/

The track in an enchanting wander though various amazing river locations and light scrub / forest.
All those involved have done a most amazing job with the tracks.

Enjoy the walk !

Went for a nice walk along the Lucy's Track occasionally stopping to look for the odd cache. This one was in a nice rocky hide pretty well protected from the weather and hence was in pristine condition. Nice spot. Lots of other caches to look for on future walks.

A return visit after not quite finishing this area back in Jan, not a chance a our group of 5 could leave this series unfinished.
Given our level of fatigue last time we came along this trail we were better able to enjoy the views and the lovely walk this time around and we had the energy to really look for the cache but yet another flood victim we think.

Onward to WWW#2, we took the low track because it is fun using the ropes to get around. The sun was out, the river was calm and clear and we were really enjoying our walk. We spent a long time searching for this one. We found the most perfect hiding place and after so long with no luck replaced the cache as discussed back on our January expedition. onward to WWW#3

After missing out on these last few when we were all up this way in January today was the return trip so we could clean them up.

We searched for about half an hour before giving up and replacing the cache as requested by the CO.
The walk so far has us in high spirits with us all commenting on how good the views are again long the river.

Thanks to the Spreyton22 for placing this cache in the first place and getting us out of the house.

Replaced at 11:20

Had fun getting to this one and even though two of our caching group walked the track without the use of the rope I was glad to have it to hold on to, especially with 3 dogs running back and forwards at this early stage of the walk. A quick find was made here. Unfortunately the dogs chose to have a swim here and they came out covered in very smelly black mud. By the time we finished the walk they had cleaned themselves up and fortunately the smell was gone. Thanks.

Continued our walk along the river. The sun was quite hot and the river level fairly low, but enough for some pretty reflections and deep enough in places for a swim (which we did on the way back). The leaves on the ground were very dry and crunchy underfoot. The rock traverse with the ropes was fun. This cache also found without difficulty. Thanks.

We have had this series and some nearby caches on our radar for some time but, with one thing or another, we hadn't got there. We made a firm decision to tackle them earlier this week, then the weather became too hot - we are not hot weather walkers. So, with the cool change over night, we set off this morning. We found "Lucy's Track" quite quickly and went down the zigs ans zags along to the river. Once down in the river valley it was a truely wonderful walk. We were sheltered from the winds, it was warm with a cool breeze and the scenery was magnificent. As we wandered along the Wilmot River up to Ellis Flats we were entertained by many birds (the black cockatoos were particularly noisy today)and a range of animals in the scrub - heard many but saw a few. We also saw a couple of quite big black snakes - we kept our distance and so did they. As well as a great experience (one of the best caching experiences we have had), we were very pleased that we didn't see one piece of rubbish. Great to see that people respect the area. Again, accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The container was in good condition but the log was a little damp (not as damp as #1) - sorry we didn't have any plastic bags with us to give better protection. The weather changed as we were on our walk and as we returned past this location the sun was slightly west of overhead. We were out in the open and got rather hot. The water looked so inviting. Would we or wouldn't we? Oh, who cares - we don't! Dropped the gear, plunged into the river and relaxed for a few minutes before the water became too cold. A few minutes for the sun to dry us off, back into the gear and we continued the walk much refreshed. TFTC Spreyton22 and for bringing us on this really great walk.

We set out on a lovely spring day on a mission to find this series of caches. The track was very well maintained and we enjoyed walking beside the river and taking a journey on a track not visited before. The fungi was amazing and the varying terrains through rainforest to gumtrees made it more enjoyable. Thanks for bringing us here and for placing the caches we had a great day.

A very spekky spot overlooking the river and glancing back at where we had come from! I know some caches that would freak doing that but not the 3 heroes I am in the company of!! Cool Thanks for this one too Spreyton22

This cache was found pretty quickly after transiting the rock crossing with the help of the ropes. The water level was such that without the rope there was every chance that one or more of us would have ended up in the water.

Hi Spreyton22
Getting to this cache was fun. We're all talking and laughing as we go.
The rope grip reminded me of gaining access to "Entrance Cave" down south, where you are hanging onto a rope and edging your way round a small rock face to get to the bar gate before entering the cave proper.
The river at this spot is specky, especially with the volume of water flowing down it course today.
We found the cache and logged it at 1143hrs.
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.

Just loved this walk today. Great company which made for a wonderful weekend. I love the variation in the track and the scramble around the rocky corner with the assistance of the rope adds interest. There were four sets of eyes so we found the cache pretty quickly! Thanks spreyton22

Perhaps some gloves are in order for the rock work ...

Carried on along the track, which switched between alongside the river, to higher and deeper into the bush. Lots of manferns, moss and fungi made it very pleasant.
Eventually came to the rocky outcrop where a rope has been positioned to hold, hopefully preventing you falling into the river.
The cache was quickly located, but I has failed to notice a cut on my hand which was bleeding fairly well until I had smeared it over the cache page.
BTW...there WAS a pencil in the cache.

A little song to get us started ...

Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
