Description

Walking up this creek is a little tricky

After finding the easier cach at S41 10 308 E146 03 212 called  "Complete waste of mine in the Dial Range ", continue along walking track to creek. Walking up this Dial Creek very carefully to find cache and the mine adit is over the creeks water and rocks. Around creek corner is a delightfull little pool with a small water falls flowing into it. A must look once you have ventured this far. Through the scrub is very cutty rushey plants not so good to venture.

It was great to be getting back into some tassie bush after over two weeks on the mainland. We were very surprised at the condition of the track to the Leven River from where we parked the car. It is normally an excellent surface to walk on but today it was slippery and in places, quite dangerous. Recent rain coupled with one or more dimwits on dirt bikes had made the track and mud pile in places. Using the directions provided by Sirius Tas, we took the short cut and were soon at Dial Creek. The walk up the creek was reasonable. Some rocks were a litle slippery but nothing like the walking track. At times we had to walk across the rocks, other times we could walk on the bank. When we got near GZ we could see the adit. Our GPS wanted us to go over the creek ton the adit side. We found a crossing and searched the area without success. Our GPS was proving somewhat erratic, sometimes being at GZ then after taking a couple of steps, it thought were were 20m from GZ; so we ignored it after a while. We then crossed back to the opposite side of the creek to the adit and there made a quick find. It is an extremely small small container; we thought it would be better described as a micro. It is a lovely area in here - the rock pools and small waterfall add to the magic of the area. Thanks for bringing us here TassieExplorer and TFTC. And special thanks to Sirius Tas for the directions provided and for helping TassieExplorer provide a better caching experience.

Met up with Tassyexplorer on site to sort out the cache co-ords....must say had a great chinwag and was an absolute pleasure to have met up. Cache is all ok and can be accessed quite easily...and opposite the adit. A short cut into the creek can be taken 50m past a sharp left turn in the track...from where you can see into the creek. Then just a short walk upstream to adit and cache which is on the opposite bank.
A top afternoon...so many thanks Tassyexplorer...Cheers. FTF.
