Description

This cache is part of the I've Cached Everywhere, Man (ICEM) project, the largest cache series in Australia

It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack.

Tassie gets its own verse thanks to Hookline:

GCA Verse 6 by hookline
I've cached in Ulverstone, Dulverton, Smithton, Burnie,
Queenstown, George Town, Campbell Town, Swansea
Lilydale, Scottsdale, Berriedale, Bicheno
Rosebury, Fentonbury, Dodges Ferry, Jericho
Cockle Creek, Lake Leake, Sisters Creek, Winnaleah
Wayatinah, Poatina, Tulendeena... yeah, I've cached there!

The focus of this cache is Lake Leake  which is the name of both a lake and a small township in the eastern midlands of Tasmania. The lake was named after Charles Henry Leake a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council. At the 2006 census, Lake Leake had a population of 176. Lake Leake is a highly valued recreational area used by many Tasmanians and visitors for camping and recreational fishing for brook trout, brown trout and rainbow trout. The village is built on land owned by the Northern Midlands Council. Inhabitants must purchase a license to have a building and they are restricted in the number of days per year they can live there. The main purpose is to accommodate recreational anglers.

The lake was constructed after a long debate. A five metre high dam was finished in 1884. The initial area of the lake was 6 km2. In 1971 the spillway highest point was raised by 18cm to increase storage capacity. Water is released for irrigation and also stored to maintain a fishing facility. Lake Leake has always been at least half full.

This cache is located in a lightly bushed area at a T-junction just before entereing the Lake Leake reserve area. There are too many muggles in the camping and residential area to place a cache there. After you find the cache do go the short extra distance (about 500m) to enjoy in the beauty of the area.

The cache is now a 400ml Sistema hidden 315m from the old cache site.

A quick find when we finally reached ground zero. Accurate coordinates and the hint certainly helped. There was more traffic than we would have guessed on this unsealed and fairly muddy road but we got the logbook signed and the cache container rehidden without any problems. Another of the ICEM caches ticked off the list. Thanks for the cache

Hi 2y's,

After completing the Ready Aim Fire series we decided to grab a couple of gca caches while in the swansea area before heading home via Lake Leake,
we detoured into this one where a quick find was made with accurate coordinates. it was good to get the previous DNF off my back for this one. TFTC

The last cache for today as I am returning home from a caching run along the Avoca to Cranbrook road. This was a quick find and another ICEM cache to my collection of finds. Very Happy

The first cache of the day during a circular drive from Hobart up to Campbelltown and across to Swansea. We visited the lake first and there were many fishermen enjoying the good weather. A nice spot & the cache was a quick find. TFTC!

We stopped to look for this one today on our way back from Hobart. The area has had a fire through here and the only stump I could find near ground zero was all burnt and pulled apart with no sign of the cache anywhere. I think this one may have been destroyed by fire. TFTC

Thanks for the cache 2Y'stassies. Out and about with RLD4963 on a weekend away up the East Coast, decided to grab some caches along the way. We had a lovely morning in Bicheno, and decided to take a little detour on the way home out to Lake Leake. After turning off the main road and heading towards GZ we noticed a rather steady stream of motorcycles heading in the opposite direction - we were starting to wander what might be happening at the pub. We found the cache a short distance from the pub and decided that we should stop for an OJ given we had driven all this way. Turns out the motorcycle run was a fundraiser that had finished with a bbq at the pub. We arrived as it was winding up, so it was easy to get a drink. We had a short but memorable visit before we continued on our way - glad we made the trip out here. Cheers.

SSR and I headed north for the ozgeomuster event and stayed the night in Launceston.Todays plan was a quick jaunt to Georgetown to claim the area for minatour. Our next cache stop was Evandale where SSR was able to make a find which gave us Northern Midlands. From there we headed out via the Lake Leake Highway to Dolphin Sands and Swansea before heading down the coast to home. We skipped Dolphin Sands and the trig at Swansea due to the horizontal rain- it was just too awful. We did stop at Lake Leake for lunch (a roll we bought in Georgetown at breakfast) and made a quick find of this cache on the way in.
The weather was NOTHING like the featured photo but we still enjoyed the visit.

nice quick easy find while on a north trip

The hunt for plastic was too much to bear, so a long trip to the east coast to grab a couple of caches was the order for today.

The only problem with the weather was a forecast of 23 degrees, so quite warm for longish walks.

Set the alarm for an early start, leaving home just after 6am.

Once again, as soon as my hat and boots were on,  Murder(the younger of the two canine family....4 yo) was getting pretty excited and ready to make a beeline for the door in readiness for any walks or geofourby trips that might be on offer.

My eldest canine...Sirius...is now too old(16y 10m) to leave the comfort of his bed in front of the wood heater...which has an electric blanket of course(which he just loves and is great for his arthritis), though with the current summer weather it is hardly needed.

Having walked 100's of km's with me geocaching over the years up numerous mountains, bush walking along many trails plus along vast stretches of beaches etc while geocaching, he has certainly earned his rest..an amazing companion who never gave up no matter how hard it got for him...a truly remarkeable and treasured companion.

The first GCA cache on our travels,  "The Royal George coach" was along the Old Coach Road running between Avoca and Apslawn on the east coast, which is a lovely drive.

Nearing gz a suitable parking spot was found and after a short search, a well hidden cache was found. The cache and contents are all good. Many thanks for the cache  nutwood33 and for placing and maintaining the cache for us all to enjoy. A nice drive through this neck of the woods and a road I haven't travelled for many years.

The next cache was a trig beacon...."Long Point ST203" up along the east coast near Seymour. The beacon is almost obscured by trees, but the vanes can be clearly seen from the road side. A nice drive in another place I've never been.

After finding a few other GC caches it was time to head for home and on the way find the cache "ICEM Verse 6 - Lake Leake".

A short drive off the main road and we were soon at gz where the cache was soon found. The cache and contents are in top nick.

Many thanks 2y'stassies for placing and maintaining the cache for us all to enjoy...cheers ST.

Hello 2y'stassies thanks for the cache

Today was a very mixed day of caching after finding the only three caches I had planned on finding I just ended up driving around not really knowing where I would be next but I did end up on the Lake Leake Hwy.
As I was driving past I noticed your cache come up on the GPS so I just had to make a quick detour and find it.
It was a very easy find but had to make sure the muggle cutting wood nearby wasn't watching.

Found at 14:04

We spent the night at the nearby inn and grabbed the cache on the way out. The people who run the pub are very friendly and helpful and the t-bone steaks are simply amazing - so make sure you plan a meal into your agenda. TFTC TNLN

Hi 2y'stassies
It has taken us quite a long time to return and look again for this cache, but today was the day. A nice quick and easy find was much appreciated as it was cold at GZ. We really like this series and were pleased to tick another one off the list. Thanks for the cache and the series.

Thanks for the replacement 2y's. Being east coasters we pass "near" here approximately the same number of times we pass through Campbell Town, yet it's taken us this long (facing a personal 3-in-a-row ICEM challenge) to be shamed into turning the steering wheel. We're of the same vintage as OldSaint as we too vaguely recall the pub's pet wombat. All good at GZ despite it's lack of love & affection.

Since placing this cache over three years ago, as Team Swampy reported, a very substantial boom gate has been constructed and the cache was on the wrong side. Finally we have been able to get to lake Leake to fix up the problem. It has now been relocated a short distance. Happy hunting again.

Long time between visits for this cache.
Found without GPSr butn the cache is located on the other side of a big white barrier gate. Signs on the tree indicate surveillance and private property. TNLN.
Found on my 10th day of the 1st Anniversary trip to Adelaide.
Thanks for the cache!

Hi 2y'stassies
No luck for us today.

Long dusty, dirty drive from Lake Tooms to Lake Leake but it was loads of fun.
The new 4WD handled the roads with ease and as the sun set over the lake I enjoyed a nice break before the long drive home. Very Happy
Thanks budgietas.

Hi 2y's
After a great day at the event yesterday, Anne and I stayed in Campbell Town again last night and I woke early this morning to the beat of rain pounding on the roof.
Couldn't get back to sleep so an early morning drive took place.
Arrived at GZ, found and logged the cache round 0630hrs this morning.
Have fished this lake on many occasions and taken a few speckled furies [trout] from its waters.
The "pet" wombat at the pub was ooooh so cute when he was a real young'n. It would come and nudge your leg waiting for a pat.
TFTC and cheers
Oldsaint.

Grabbed this one on the way to Swansea. Took the opportunity while we were here to travel to the end of the road and check out all the shacks. Nice to see a shack area that is still a 'shack area' and has not become an area of holiday mansions for the rich. Pity our visit. hadn't been later in the day as there was a band playing at the Lake Leake pub that night. Thanks, a top spot that we may well return to soon.

A nice quick find in pooring rain. Found the cache and retreated to the car to sign the log and retrieve the card.

Thank you for another perfect ICEM cache 2y's

Found on a drive out and about while spending a few days in Bicheno. Very quiet around Lake Leake today but I bet it's a very different story in summer Wink

Ready to go. The last ICEM in Tasmania we intend to publish. Only 5 to go - can we be the first state to get caches at all our ICEM places. A challenge to others!
