Description

We have placed this cache in a location that we love. The cache is placed in a spot that will offer you great views of a most beautiful and untouched area. Our first visits to the Lake were made with 4x4 on a pack horse track that left from the old stockyards on the Cradle Mountain national park turn off. This track was just mud and rock and took almost 4 hours each way. The track was originally used to take cattle to and from the Vale of Belvoir as well as being part of the VDL co road system. The old track to the lake went straight down the middle of the Vale. The now gravel road to the lake is just a scar on the landscape or so we think. Take your camera with you and if you like take a rod as there are some nice trout in Lake Lea. Just be mindful the trout have a mind of their own so it may be advisable to take a steak for the BBQ unless you are a stealthy fisher.

Staying on a night away at lemontymne lodge we decided to tackle a few caches in the area. We managed to find some and not some others.
We had a good time exploring areas that we wouldn’t have normally seen if not for caching.

Been past here before I knew about caching so was familiar with the road in.
After pulling up and walking up here in the rain cache was quickly found tuck away dry in its hiding spot.
Signed the log and rehide. Walking back to the car the rain stopped.

Dodged or tried to dodge the potholes into the lake and stopped to do this cache on the war back out, thanks.

A good excuse to stop and stretch the legs whilst in the area exploring. TFTC

I identified the spot yesterday afternoon due to the accurate co-ordinates. As it was so warm I was afraid there may be snakes in the scrub and not being dressed for that I left the cache until this morning after we enjoyed a very warm night's camping down by Lake Lea. In the cool of the early morning and dressed properly for hidden snake territory it was a quick find. It's a lovely spot and the wildflowers were blooming nicely back on the main road so we had to stop and put the camera to use for a while. TFTC

Off doing a bit of exploring at places we've never been to before and we're lucky enough to be rewarded with a cache. Plenty of potholes on the road to the lake. Can't say the same for fish. TFTC

Found this cache back on the 26th of July but forgot to log it. Didn't realise at the time that we were the first to find it in 2 years. WOW. Cache was easy to locate and considering the time lapse since the last log everything is in quite good condition and log was nice and dry. No snow to be seen here today turns out we was a week early as last weekend there was snow galore with a heavy snowfall that closed nearby roads and saw the west coast snowed in.

I am afraid the Lancer did not like this road, should have taken the 4WD today! Had to tippy toe around all the washouts and holes. Had lunch at the lake. The front spoiler suffered a few scratches but all good.

Said the 22's of Spreyton,
This cache will be a-waitin',
Up the rocks,
Just a hop,
And the views - a breath-takin'

Thanks for the excuse to find a bit of magic again !
We had never known of this location, and at 4c and with snow in the ground still, it was just the tonic.

Sweeping views over the Vale and across to Lake Lea. Could see cattle grazing in the distance...which is good to see that Parks haven't closed everything off and to continue the old traditions. Top spot...TFTC Landy_Clan...Cheers.

We hadn't realised the number of roads in this area. Previously we have driven the Cradle Mountain Link Road from the Murchison Highway to home admiring the view on either side but not taking any notice of side roads. Apart from some very broad (road width) but shallow puddles it was an easy drive from the Cradle Mountain Link Road to GZ. The views from GZ across the Vale of Belvoir were glorious but the sun was in the wrong position to take good photos as it was causing flaring in the lens. We will return earlier in a morning and take some panoramic shots of this beautiful scene. We will also go further down the road to Lake Lea but will take our lunch with us as neither of us are dab hands with the fishing rod. Although dead, the tree at GZ is magnificent - the twisted form of the tree and the silver/grey colour reflecting the strong sunlight on this glorious day created a wonderful image. Thanks landy_clan for bringing us to this beautiful area and TFTC.
