Description

Walk around where John Batman roamed

Here is a very old mine adit in a spot where a very small town called Gipps Creek was. Just beside a group of rocks called Batmans Lookout. So much history here another book and has been written. So many mines in the area this is an easy one to find. The adit is in a another smaller group of rocks, very large outcrop and there are many mine sites around this southern end of Ben Lomond. Snakes in the summer and leaches in the wet time. Too many wallaby to count. I have posted a picture can you add another? As parking will not be a problem. You do not need a 4wd to get to this spot but the roads are very rough as in stones. A whole farm and small town grew and vanished around this area now planted with trees. Buildings date back to 1860 just along the road. Too many trees. The view of the mountains is like nothing eles in Tasmania

Found in the company of Steve the Muggle. Got close but the track was a wood hookers track and didn't lead us to the adit. Walked the 220m and found it.
Stuck my head in the tunnel but all the buzzing sounds made me want to leave.
Thnaks for showing me this place.

On a joint mission with Tassie Trekkers. A great day rewarded with 3 joint FTF's. This one was very interesting with lots of history & an interesting mine to explore. Photo's taken as proof of visit.

Woo Hoo Very Happy FTF Very Happy a joint FTF with Truimph Twins. Left Launceston at 6am on a mission to find this cache and 2 others. We continued on from where we stopped on our first attempt through light scrub and up a hill to a landing. A lot of history and places to explore. Found the mine trolley and Adit. Had a torch so checked it out. Took a photo of the Adit as proof we were there. Thanks Tassyexplorer for the adventure and bringing us to a place not visited before.

Is this a virtual cache or a physical cache? If its a virtual what do we need to do?

Went searching for GZ but could not get any closer than 500 metres without bushbashing or taking a 4WD track. Description suggests we do not need to do that so a DNF for us today.
