Find a Vespa scooter
Quintessential Italian street style, the Vespa is a marriage of practical transportation and hip icon. First developed in 1945 with an enduring look to this day, the Vespa has features strongly influenced by aeronautical design. It was conceived as a car with two wheels at a time when the car was not in the reach of all. The Vespa quickly became not just a mode of transport but a machine synonymous with you, freedom of movement and the liberation of a post-war economy. It came to symbolise all that was cool about Italy, La Dolce Vita, Roman Holiday et al. design and function at its best.
Our recently acquired 1966 Vespa 150 Super in traditional Piaggio baby blue, has been restored to its original condition.

Sometimes, just sometimes, my Japanese bike gets to mix it with some fine Italian (and British) machinery. This was one of those days a year or two ago at work so I simply had to take a pickie of the company it was keeping with the Vespa sitting front and centre (well, not really centre but you get the idea 
) in prime position.

Another Vespa spotted in Ivanhoe this afternoon on my way back from an appointment. A pretty yellow one this time.
Unbelievably I saw another one (gray/silver) in the traffic behind me ten minutes later but as I was driving I couldn't snap a photo of that one.

Out doing caching at Ebenezer. Stopped at Tractor 828 to grab a coffee and spotted a group of Vespas.

Well our caching companion Samboo found one on Friday, I suppose its our turn to find one.
We just happened to be crossing over to the Coolangatta Arts and Crafts Market and there next to the pedestrian crossing was a shiny red wasp. I have absolutely no details about it except to say it was very shiny and in the last 12 months ago this is only the second time I can truly say I have identified a Vespa. Maybe I have seen others but not twigged, or maybe the Gold Coast is becoming more cosmopolitan. After all, how chic would it be to ride to the beach in your tiny bikini - towel and sunscreen in the back locker. Definitely very easy to park when carparks near the beach are at a premium.

We had to go shopping today and after Suzy parked the car I spotted this wasp in the car space nearby. I remembered they were looking for wasps last year but guess what I found it first, so I asked Suzy to take my photo.
We met the man who owned the scooter, he was working at the car wash nearby and I think he was pleased that we stopped to admire his bike.

Hurrying between appointments in Ivanhoe, VIC today I walked past this vehicle parked on the footpath. I excitedly realised that it was a Vespa so stopped to take a quick photo before I was on my way again.

We were recently in Yeppoon Qld for a weeks caching and on arriving at our car parking space I noticed this vespa (wasp) parked in the adjoin parking bay. We were staying at Lammomoor Beach and the building we were staying in had holiday and permanent residents. I never saw this WASP move in the week we were here. TFTL Doodle Bug Oz.

A wasp recently spotted in Cameron Street in Launceston in northern Tasmania. Amongst three bikes all lined up with their owners likely sipping lattes nearby. Very rarely see these bikes about and this the second spotted for the day.. thanks..!!

I was very unsure of whether this little number fit this locationless and took a photo anyway. Checking and it's a match. Yippee, I can tick it off. I guess it pays to keep your eyes open. I spotted two red ones on the road after I had completed a mission or two on Lake Burley Griffin. A quick U turn and I was off after them hoping they would soon stop somewhere. After about 4 or 5 kilometres, they finally pulled up in their driveway. I approached the owners and asked for a photo to which they kindly agreed. I bet they thought I was rather weird!!!
They informed me that they had just participated in a Xmas toy run, hence the decorations. Two very well kept machines.
I have changed the coords a little as this was their home address, but they were eventually photographed in Isabella Plains, ACT.

I was up in Sydney for a meeting - a lunch really and had time to kill before my flight home so wandered around the waterfront. I walked past a restaurant and looked up the stairs and couldn't believe my luck. I didn't want to intrude so its not the best picture but it is clear enough.

Driving along Johnston Street from Annandale on our way to a book launch at Newtown and remembered the Vespa swarm at the Scooteria dealership on Parramatta Road. Found a spot to park and walked the short distance to the shop where two black Vespa bikes were on the footpath with many more inside. As we were leaving an older blue Vespa scooted passed on the main road...bonus.

Not one, not two but 11 Vespas all in a row. Ok, some might other brands of scooters but I knew I wouldn't be disappointed when visiting Scooter Zone in Leichhardt. And maybe because I was in the Inner West, but after this photo, I found Vespas (and scooters) all over the place. Will log them separately too. A solid find for the Summer Scavenger Series.

Summer Scavenger series for 2016 brings me to the city of Brisbane this day and keeping a look out for Vespas while I am walking around. I found these 2 on Turbot Street where all the motor bikes and scooters park underneath a Building which stretches across the road like a bridge. One is a Black one and One is a Super Model Vespa in Charcoal Grey. TFTV Doodle Bug Oz
While wandering down from work to attack a Pokemon Gym, I came across this little white Vespa parked on the footpath in Chapel Street, South Yarra. I have no idea what else to write about it as I didn't think to look for a model number of anything else. They're cute little things that would definitely come off 2nd best should they encounter some of the SUV's that seem to be the dominant vehicle around here.

Spotted this wasp in Huonville, Tasmania after dropping Mum at Church this morning.
The handle bars are black!
The colour on the body is original.
This one really "nips" along if you get it going properly!
Trying to ride it can be difficult especially when it starts flying along.

This cool little Piaggio has been converted by an aeronautical inspired Brit! Decked out in RAF trim, check out the hood ornament! Spotted in the Rocks while cache hunting today. A very cool little scooter.

Out in the city attending the Ladyhawke concert (and grabbing a couple of caches beforehand) I finally managed to spot a Vespa with a camera in hand (in this case the Oregon 550's inbuilt one - hence the poor night quality...) Details about the scooter - well, it's a Piaggio Vespa - it's red, it's not a vintage classic, it's someone else's - just your average modern version with a "bench" seat. But it is a Vespa!

It was parked outside our city hall whilst an event was on inside. We tried to pull up quickly & grab a quick snap before the nearby smokers raised a concern, but without flash it blurred & with flash the window behind flashed back. This was the best of a bunch I'm not proud of.
Disallow this log if you will, we might manage to get one in daylight.

I'm sneakily filling a hole in my caching calendar with this cache, when it would have otherwise been pretty awkward to go find one. This Vespa is used by one of the teachers at school and was parked right outside the entrance! Handy! Thanks Doodle Bug!

We were wandering down Elizabeth Street in melbourne last night when we happened to notice a motor bike shop with Vespa motor scooters in the windows. They were not the original models but new machines with the distinctive look of a Vespa. However they didn't come with an Italian woman riding side saddle whilst wearing a skirt and sscarf as seen in many of the older movies. The Vespas are significantly more costly than other brands but you do have to pay for class and image. A stiched photo has been adedd to the Gallery showing a group of scooters in the window, the Vespa badge on one and the store sign displaying teh Vespa brand along with others. TFTC
I caught the train up to Thirroul to visit my wife (new knee) & afterwards had a wander around the main street when I came across two Vespas, both much closer to the age & design of your model. They require a bit of TLC with the green one in particular showing its age. Its owner was enjoyng an expresso on the side walk of course.

Saw several Vespas in a bike parking area in front of St Vincent's hospital in Kings Cross. I took a picture of a red one which had Vespa on the front guard. Streets very congested so scooters would be ideal inner city transport. This Vespa is probably modern judging by the muffler but has the classic look of the original.
