Description

A beautiful walk on the east side of the Wilmot River

Lucy's Track

Park in the second parking area, about 800m from the Wilmot Bridge. ( S41° 16.566  E146° 13.341 )
The track is about 20m south of the car park, western side of the road.
Follow this link for a Street View
After jumping the fence, decend to the Wilmot River (11 zig zags!)

Proceed south to the co-ordinates.

Please Note:

  • Take care - the track is slipery, narrow and rocky in parts. Children require close supervision.
  • There is no Telstra phone reception (well not for me ...) So if you are using a smart phone, store the cache offline
  • Expect to take 1 1/2 hours to the final cache.
  • There is a lovely little table in the open area known as "The Valley"
  • Extra info about the tracks in the area can be found here: http://billshep1.wordpress.com/

The track in an enchanting wander though various amazing river locations and light scrub / forest.
All those involved have done a most amazing job with the tracks.

Enjoy the walk !

No luck today.

Today Mrs Beetle, 2 muggles and 5 dogs walked the Lucy Track in an attempt to find this cache and the one at Eden's Cottage.
We last attempted this cache back in April 2015 and despite a one hour search we couldn't find it.
We spent about 20minutes today and decided to continue on and stop for another look on the way back.
On the way back I searched higher and about 5 minutes in I heard one of the muggles with me yell out '"Got it".
The coordinates were a bit out and the cache was only one step up from the track. Not well up the bank as my GPS was suggesting. And it was a bit further north than the GPS suggested.
So pleased to cross this one off and not have to come back another time to look for it.
It was in excellent condition, despite being unfound since 2017.
This is a great little series and one of the best walks in the area.
Thanks.

A return visit after not quite finishing this area back in Jan, not a chance a our group of 5 could leave this series unfinished. We did have a quick look before but it was more like a quick stop and glance about so this time we really searched but in the end had to replace the cache.

We had had a half-hearted look for this cache on our January trip but were so tired we moved on quickly (quickly being after a short stop, not our speed). We just wanted it to be over by then. Today we were in much better spirits and searched high and low before hiding one of SSRs replacement cached as agreed.

After missing out on these last few when we were all up this way in January today was the return trip so we could clean them up.

Again we searched for a good while before giving up and replacing the cache as requested by the CO.

Thanks to the Spreyton22 for placing this cache in the first place and getting us out of the house.

Replaced at 11:43

3 people and 3 dogs spent about an hour here but could not find a cache. The track was above the rocky bend so we concentrated our initial search up the bank from there but after no success we went to the 2nd lot of co-ords we had written down which were below the track. Found a few nooks and crannies that looked promising but no cache. Will keep an eye on this one and return if it can be confirmed whether it is still there or not. Did find a 10 dollar note here under the log so all was not lost!!! Thanks.

Mrs 22 and I did a walk each side of the river yesterday and I "found" this one to check the co-ords with my new Samsung Phone.
After averaging for 5 minutes I got:

S 41° 17.205' E 146° 12.447' ± 1.8 m

The maps would have that about 5 m SW ish from the published co-ord.
It maybe useful for someone else to check.
Cheers!

This cache was the trickiest in the series to find, perhaps because it wasn't as obvious as the others. Unfortunately, the hint wasn't specific enough to provide much help. My partner kept wandering way too far up the bank. Anyway, after much bumbling and scratching around, we finally uncovered it. Thanks for the cache.

We have had this series and some nearby caches on our radar for some time but, with one thing or another, we hadn't got there. We made a firm decision to tackle them earlier this week, then the weather became too hot - we are not hot weather walkers. So, with the cool change over night, we set off this morning. We found "Lucy's Track" quite quickly and went down the zigs ans zags along to the river. Once down in the river valley it was a truely wonderful walk. We were sheltered from the winds, it was warm with a cool breeze and the scenery was magnificent. As we wandered along the Wilmot River up to Ellis Flats we were entertained by many birds (the black cockatoos were particularly noisy today)and a range of animals in the scrub - heard many but saw a few. We also saw a couple of quite big black snakes - we kept our distance and so did they. As well as a great experience (one of the best caching experiences we have had), we were very pleased that we didn't see one piece of rubbish. Great to see that people respect the area. This one took a little tracking down as our GPS was quite slow to settle. After about 10 minutes we located the cache and, by then, out GPS was very well behaved and said that GZ was 1.5m away! The cache and contents were in good condition. TFTC Spreyton22 and for bringing us on this really great walk.

We set out on a lovely spring day on a mission to find this series of caches. The track was very well maintained and we enjoyed walking beside the river and taking a journey on a track not visited before. The fungi was amazing and the varying terrains through rainforest to gumtrees made it more enjoyable. Thanks for bringing us here and for placing the caches we had a great day.

woohoo ... being short comes in handy when slipping on your bum is possibly going to be a problem- you don't have as far to fall Dancing As winter passes and the water level drops this rocky area will be a piece of cake. Personally I think my caching buddies were being girls about it LOL Laughing LOL Laughing Thanks for number 3 Spreyton22 ..

I must admit that this cache was found by the others whilst I was still attempting (unsuccessfully) to transit the lower route around the big, wet, slippery rock. Eventually I gave up and want over (like everyone else).

Hi Spreyton22
I give this cache top marks.
The changing terrain, the high flowing river, great company and a wee challenge negotiating the damp and slippery rocks was great fun.
The cache was logged at 1201hrs.
The scenery for me was terrific here especially with the water passing by at great rate of cusecs.
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.

You're not wrong with the description, "an enchanting walk", it sums it up in three words. The caches keep the interest and motivation in what is a reasonably decent length walk. The rocky area there at GZ was pretty slippery but we found the cache, and negotiated our way over/around/down it carefully and successfully. For me this was the section where I needed to take the most care as it was a steepish rock and with the river high, the low path disappeared under an inlet. Thanks spreyton22.

Co-ords and hide good. In the company of Sirius this was soon located. Thanks

Please note: GZ changed as per 3DayGrowth.
Had a look on Google Earth, and the original co-ordinates had us "in the river" as he mentioned !

Carried on along the river, really enjoying the walk, so much so that I walked straight past the cache. Eventually realised and retraced my steps.
The coords were indicating right in the middle of the river, so I did some scouting around and soon came up with the cache thanks to the hint.
The coords I got today were S41 17.203 E146 12.453 some 38m from the ones published.

A little song to get us started ...

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
