Description

A beautiful walk on the east side of the Wilmot River

Lucy's Track

Park in the second parking area, about 800m from the Wilmot Bridge. ( S41° 16.566  E146° 13.341 )
The track is about 20m south of the car park, western side of the road.
Follow this link for a Street View
After jumping the fence, decend to the Wilmot River (11 zig zags!)

Proceed south to the co-ordinates.

Please Note:

  • Take care - the track is slipery, narrow and rocky in parts. Children require close supervision.
  • There is no Telstra phone reception (well not for me ...) So if you are using a smart phone, store the cache offline
  • Expect to take 1 1/2 hours to the final cache.
  • There is a lovely little table in the open area known as "The Valley"
  • Extra info about the tracks in the area can be found here: http://billshep1.wordpress.com/

The track in an enchanting wander though various amazing river locations and light scrub / forest.
All those involved have done a most amazing job with the tracks.

Enjoy the walk !

No joy looking for this one today.

Set out to do the caches along Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough. tftc

As we walked out we had been followed by some of the temporary inhabitants and we were glad we were away from them when we got to this one, after a bit of searching I found the cache but it turns out I couldn't open it as my wrist had started to show its problem, a few kilometres ago I lost my footing and saved myself with my right hand, along with jarring my back my wrist was also smarting a little bit.
With the help of my fellow caches we got our priorities correct and opened the cache and signed the log, next it was my stubborn realisation that I need some help from those fellow cachers to strap me up before I could carry on, everyone helped out and soon sporting a pure white vembrace to keep me going.
After this all ideas of caching were off the board and we headed back to the car we had dropped off many hours ago, it was a bit of a push from us as we all wanted to get back before we were walking in the dark but after a bit of a zig and a zag we made our way back to the car.
We are coming back soon to clean up the few we had to miss and only then will we be happy to say we have done the Wilmot river.

Found at 17:50

We started our walk at 8:08am and finished at 7:17pm and covered 24km's, we had a great day enjoying ourselves no end, thanks to the CO's for their hard work in placing and keeping these caches going.

Watch this space.

Our last find for the day. I remember the location well as Stainless-steel-rat finally had his sore wrist strapped up after reaching for the cache. it was 5.50pm when we logged this cache and we ended up back at the car at 7.20pm so with minimal water we trudged on past the others just to get back to the vehicle we had left there on the way to our starting point way down the other end.
Spreyton22 as mentioned in my DNF for Williams Wilmot Wandering#5, we will be back to complete this series and replace anything that needs sorting out. We are disappointed we ran out of time but it was time to go.

Probably the quickest find of the 5 caches in this series. Thanks.

Came into a more shady area which was nice, as some of the exposed rocky stretches were quite hot in the sun. Cache found no problem, though it was, like most of the other caches, slightly damp. We passed the turnoff to Eden Cottage planning to do that one on the way back. Also was getting a bit hungry at this point, so looking forward to reaching the picnic area. Thanks for the cache.

We have had this series and some nearby caches on our radar for some time but, with one thing or another, we hadn't got there. We made a firm decision to tackle them earlier this week, then the weather became too hot - we are not hot weather walkers. So, with the cool change over night, we set off this morning. We found "Lucy's Track" quite quickly and went down the zigs ans zags along to the river. Once down in the river valley it was a truely wonderful walk. We were sheltered from the winds, it was warm with a cool breeze and the scenery was magnificent. As we wandered along the Wilmot River up to Ellis Flats we were entertained by many birds (the black cockatoos were particularly noisy today)and a range of animals in the scrub - heard many but saw a few. We also saw a couple of quite big black snakes - we kept our distance and so did they. As well as a great experience (one of the best caching experiences we have had), we were very pleased that we didn't see one piece of rubbish. Great to see that people respect the area. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The container and contents were in good condition. TFTC Spreyton22 and for bringing us on this really great walk.

We set out on a lovely spring day on a mission to find this series of caches. The track was very well maintained and we enjoyed walking beside the river and taking a journey on a track not visited before. The fungi was amazing and the varying terrains through rainforest to gumtrees made it more enjoyable. Thanks for bringing us here and for placing the caches we had a great day.

Team Natty Dean and I seemd to attract the leeches .. we were covered ... I thought alcohol from a session the night before was meant to help - it didn't Sad ... Luckily Dippy had some repellant and some salt and some bandaids, she is a legend!! Thanks for the cache Spreyton22

I loved how much the surroundings changed on this track, from the damp ferny areas, to the rocky foreshore, and everything inbetween. This was one of the damper areas, and there were a number of likely hiding places in the surrounding logs, but with four sets of eyes searching the cache was found pretty quickly.

Hi Spreyton22
Having found the cache and logged it at 1236hrs; time was taken to refresh, not because we needed to but mainly to get rid of those little black blood sucking free-loaders that were taking a ride from one spot in the forest to another.
Team Dean Erwin and red tag seemed to be the two main targets, Dippi and I thinking ourselves lucky that they seemed to be leaving us alone.
They don't seem to like sting aid very much.
Plenty of fungi along the way, so some good photography.
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.

I don't know what animal knaws on old logs, but there were some chewed logs along the track that would have impressed beavers. They amazed me too. We realised we'd overshot the turnoff to the Eden Cottage (Lost Your Marbles) cache so continued on to this one figuring we'd go to the other on the way back. Another nice spot to regroup and have a quick break before pressing on. Thanks spreyton22.

Another good hide soon had this one located By Sirius and self but the cache had somehow ended up in the open. Probably animals at work. Returned it to its hole. Thanks

A little song to get us started ...

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone
