Description

A beautiful walk on the east side of the Wilmot River

Lucy's Track

Park in the second parking area, about 800m from the Wilmot Bridge. ( S41° 16.566  E146° 13.341 )
The track is about 20m south of the car park, western side of the road.
Follow this link for a Street View
After jumping the fence, decend to the Wilmot River (11 zig zags!)

Proceed south to the co-ordinates.

Please Note:

  • Take care - the track is slipery, narrow and rocky in parts. Children require close supervision.
  • There is no Telstra phone reception (well not for me ...) So if you are using a smart phone, store the cache offline
  • Expect to take 1 1/2 hours to the final cache.
  • This cache has a few little swaps for the younger geocachers !
  • There is a lovely little table in the open area known as "The Valley"
  • Extra info about the tracks in the area can be found here: http://billshep1.wordpress.com/

The track in an enchanting wander though various amazing river locations and light scrub / forest.
All those involved have done a most amazing job with the tracks.

Enjoy the walk !

Couldn't find this one today.

A return visit after not quite finishing this area back in Jan, not a chance a our group of 5 could leave this series unfinished.
A much quieter visit than last time, which gave us a good chance to look about and even stop for lunch.

14-Apr-17
I remember this area well. It was flooded with 'guests' back in January but today it was quiet and much more enjoyable. A couple of tents were set up but nobody was around. After replacing the missing cache (we didn't on the last visit due to all the muggles) we sat down for lunch. We ate quickly as time was getting on, and soon hit the familiar crossing over the river.

After missing out on these last few when we were all up this way in January today was the return trip so we could clean them up.

this one we couldnt find last time we were here due to a surprising amount of people being here, but today with no people about we still came up empty but we also had asked the CO if he wished us to replace any missing caches, so we did just that and reaplced the cache. We had lunch here before moving on.

Thanks to the Spreyton22 for placing this cache in the first place and getting us out of the house.

Set out to do the cahces along Dooleys trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough.
There was a fairly large community of people in residence when we went past this one, looked quickly in the most obvious place but no luck.

This was a gut wrenching DNF and since we had just walked though a camp of individuals and made another wet river crossing it was all the more painful, for the last KM we had been watched by many eyes and upon getting to GZ we were sure we were in the correct spot but if we are right replacing it would have been pointless, we were not sure what to do here but in the end we plumbed for leaving it as is in the hope that when we return when we will have a better chance to search and maybe replace the cache.

From Walters Crossing we made our own track and river crossing to get here. There was a huge amount of people camping in various large groups around here. The five of us felt eyes on us wherever we went and it was quite uncomfortable. It was around 5.30pm when we were looking for this cache and having started our walk at 8am way down at Spellmans Bridge we were pretty exhausted. We so wanted to replace this cache but were not confident it would remain due to all the all the 'watchers'.
We are already discussing a return trip to do the top end caches we missed so will have a better look or replace this one.

The last in the series and a quick find in the second most obvious spot. Had lunch here and then returned via the Dooleys Track. Visited this area about 20 years ago and it appears very much unchanged.
Thanks for the series which we thoroughly enjoyed. We have walked the Dooleys track or parts of it 3 times before but were totally unaware of the existence of Lucy's Track until these caches were published. Thanks.

Arrived at the final cache which was found quickly after initially looking in the wrong stump. The picnic area was quiet and deserted apart from the birds. Since the lone table was in full sun, we found a place to sit and eat lunch in the shade on the grass, which was problematic as there were buzzies literally everywhere! We spent half the time picking prickles out of our clothing... but other than that it was nice. A sheltered table would've been great, though.

We spent most of the day along the river and saw absolutely not one other person the whole time. Great to have the whole of the river and bush and nature to ourselves! Thanks Spreyon22 for a nice series!

We have had this series and some nearby caches on our radar for some time but, with one thing or another, we hadn't got there. We made a firm decision to tackle them earlier this week, then the weather became too hot - we are not hot weather walkers. So, with the cool change over night, we set off this morning. We found "Lucy's Track" quite quickly and went down the zigs ans zags along to the river. Once down in the river valley it was a truely wonderful walk. We were sheltered from the winds, it was warm with a cool breeze and the scenery was magnificent. As we wandered along the Wilmot River up to Ellis Flats we were entertained by many birds (the black cockatoos were particularly noisy today)and a range of animals in the scrub - heard many but saw a few. We also saw a couple of quite big black snakes - we kept our distance and so did they. As well as a great experience (one of the best caching experiences we have had), we were very pleased that we didn't see one piece of rubbish. Great to see that people respect the area. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The container and its contents were in good condition. A feature of this series was the vareity of hides making good use of the environment. TFTC Spreyton22 and for bringing us on this really great walk.

We set out on a lovely spring day on a mission to find this series of caches. The track was very well maintained and we enjoyed walking beside the river and taking a journey on a track not visited before. The fungi was amazing and the varying terrains through rainforest to gumtrees made it more enjoyable. Thanks for bringing us here and for placing the caches we had a great day. We were very pleased that no leeches were around (Mrs T's pet hate). We also rescued the TB and will move on shortly.

Lucky last and what a surprise to come out at a clearing. I was almost expected to see a coffee shop it was so fancy with the hut and the tables etc Dancing ... Thanks heaps Spreyton22 for such a great walk and all the caches you placed along it. Much appreciated - red tag

This was a really enjoyable walk, and "The Valley" beyond this cache seemed to welcome us and offer it's own congratulations on completing the walk. We stopped here for a lunch and a rest before heading back along the track.

I hadn't realised that this cache was a GCA one, so I left a travel bug here - could the next visitor perhaps pick this one up and move it on to a GC cache? Thanks Smile

Spreyton22, thanks for this series of five along the eastern side of the Wilmot River.
The differing terrain, the smell of the damp bush, a fast flowing river and great company made this walk a memorable days caching.
Then to finish where it does, to lunch and talk before starting the return trip - great spot. Even an enviro system!
The Fab Four thank you for giving us this experience.
TFTC, TFTS and cheers;
OldSaint.

Wow - what a fantastic walk. I thoroughly enjoyed when I did the Dooley's Heritage trail across the river, so it's quite amazing that now there's a series on the eastern side to enhance the experience. It was terrific to go with three great people and the series of caches made it really enjoyable and memorable. Thanks, spreyton, for your part in the GREAT day that we had!

The last cache in the series ending at Ellis Flats...found easily in a good hide. A very enjoyable days walk in great company and along a very well constructed track which will be a real bonus for the trout fishermen as it's not often you can get almost unlimited access to a river such as this. The track builders and maintenance crew deserve a huge amount of praise for the phenomenal amount of work which has gone into its construction. A great series spreyton22...many thanks...Cheers.

Another easy find in the company of Sirius. I thoroughly enjoyed the series with the great walk and views on a well graded and maintained track. The weather was kind and only spotted one leech on my boot and he was soon sent on his way. A great way to spend a day with good company. Many thanks Spreyton 22 for a great series.

Had been here before while finding the cache across the river.
The cache was quickly found and I sat down to eat lunch and contemplate the return journey.
I suddenly became aware that I was surrounded by leeches....in fact there were leeches all over me all starting to latch on. I lost count after the first dozen, but then decided not to worry too much about them and started back along the track. I was back at the car within 80mins, this time I found the zig zag track which was a lot easier than the bush bash I had on the way down.
Had to make a quick stop at Alma bridge to remove a big fat leech on my wrist, and much to Mrs 3DGs revulsion I stripped off at the back door at home where another dozen dropped off!
This series of caches were brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed the walk.
Many thanks for putting them out Spreyton22....certainly gets the 5 thumbs up from me.

A little song to get us started ...

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain,
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies.
