Description

A simple drive-by in a rural township.

The focus of this cache is Fentonbury, which lies between Westerway and Ellendale in the upper Derwent Valley. It is a farming area but also sometimes used as a tourist base for exploring Mt Field and the Styx, or fishing at Lake Meadowbank not too far away.

This cache is part of the I've Cached Everywhere, Man (ICEM) project, the largest cache series in Australia

It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack.

Tassie gets its own verse thanks to Hookline:

GCA Verse 6 by hookline
I've cached in Ulverstone, Dulverton, Smithton, Burnie,
Queenstown, George Town, Campbell Town, Swansea
Lilydale, Scottsdale, Berriedale, Bicheno
Rosebury, Fentonbury, Dodges Ferry, Jericho
Cockle Creek, Lake Leake, Sisters Creek, Winnaleah
Wayatinah, Poatina, Tulendeena... yeah, I've cached there!

Fentonbury was named after Michael Fenton who was one of the original landowners and hop growers near New Norfolk and also a member of the Legislative Council in the mid 1800's.

As you drive through Fentonbury, you will notice an old war memorial across a paddock which is fenced off and with no apparent access. Two houses overlook this spot, so the cache is placed further along the road where it is safe to pull over.

3km from Fentonbury is the charming and well kept township of Ellendale. This has an appealing general store, lovely old churches, public toilets, a memorial recreation ground, accommodation and a BBQ area sporting a locally themed mosaic by the local schoolchildren (coordinated by "el golco" who some cachers will know).

The cache is a small cliplock container containing logbook pen etc and a few small swaps.

Log edit.
Had a look about for this one but didn't manage to find it. The tree is attempting to grow back but so are all the other bushes/plants in the area.

Took my time finding this one - there is no tree anymore.
Found an Eclipse mint tin cache so I signed that one.
Now to drive up the road to see if I can get to Belchers Lookout - no, I can't.
Thanks for the cache Dippy.

#GA4043 - 09:50; Out and about this morning to collect finds in the dragonZones I need to complete the Hobart Capitalist mission. Glenorchy was taken care of and now time for the Derwent Valley and points north! The GPSr took me along the slowest route where much roadwork was happening and it seemed to take for ever to get from New Norfolk to Bushy Park. Made it eventually and on to Fentonbury where I commenced the hunt for this cache. I had no luck, but a review of logs and hint suggests the original cache may be buried under fill heaped at the base of the tree at GZ. Dropped a temporary cache in the fork of the tree and sent a PM to the CO. I'll delete this log if the CO gets back to me to confirm the cache is in place and I have simply suffered from cache blindness on this visit. TFTC Dippedidooda Very HappyClan Cerberus

We needed a break from our journey from Strath Gordon to home so decided to stop for this cache. This is a small town I don't remember visiting before but may have driven through it many years ago. The cache was quickly located thanks to the good hint. The cache was dry and in very good condition despite having sat idle for quite some time. Thanks for the cache Dippy.

A quick simple find which was just what we needed at this time of a long day caching.
Thanks.

Dippedidooda thank you for the cache.

Sorry for the late log I didn't realize I hadn't logged it until today when it sowed up as not found as I was driving nearby.

It was an easy find.

We managed to find your cache on our journey.

Not a muggle in sight so a nice quick and easy find. Thanks for the cache. We stopped at Westerway to buy raspberries only to be told that the season was finished.

Stopped on our long drive down to Adamsfield on a very warm and sunny day. We skipped many probably nice caches on the way (no time, couldn't really be bothered, etc), but this was an ICEM cache! And I wrote the verse! Laughing Was a bit worried when I didn't find it at first, but it was a good hide. No muggles around, very pleasant and peaceful. Thanks Dippy!

Took two visits as on the Saturday, muggles were on their veranda on the house opposite so thought it best left alone and continued on down the Gordon. Thankfully on the way back home Sunday the muggles were fairly quiet so a quick easy find was had. Cache is all ok....many thanks FTC Dippy, a long time between drinks for me..lol...Cheers.

After attending the Geocaching 102 Event in Hobart the previous evening, we decided to head home via the West Coast and along the way try to meet the requirements for the locationless cache "GA2512 A Busy Day (Eight For One)". Along the way we looked for some other caches - being an ICEM, we could not go past this cache.

We cannot recall having been through Fentonbury before and enjoyed seeing the area. As we approached GZ we speculated as to the location of the cache and sure enough, a quick serach and the cache was in hand. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Dippedidooda for this cache and for your contribution to the ICEM series in Tassie.

Personal Milestone: This was our 6000th find and an amazing coincidence. Recently we have been in contact with Dippediddoda and she noted that we were getting close to this milestone. The amazing aspect is that the 6000th happened to be one of her caches. Thanks to all geocachers for hiding caches and enabling us to get so much enjoyment from this wonderful hobby (obsession?).

Called back through Fentonbury to collect this cache on the way back to Hobart.

I found the cache while oldsaint talked to numerous cachers about his success earlier in the day with Big Fibs. More on that in the Big Fibs Log.

A nice cache hide Dippy

A nice quick find while hiding behind the trees to hopefully stay out of view of the nearby house. TFTC Dippy Very Happy

Hi Dippi
Have been confined with that flu you had not so long ago and needed to get out today.
Found JABs series around the beach and then got in the car and went for a drive. Finished up here.
This was a quick, easy find, described perfectly even though those in the pinkish house tried to make it as difficult as possible.
While the men unloaded sheep in the paddock next dorr to the house, the farmer's wife and daughter kept watching them or me from the balcony.
Never-the-less, the cache was nabbed, the log signed and the box returned without being noticed; I think.
Thanks for the drive, a great cache and the game of dodgems.
Congrats to Polfil on the FTF.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

It was only after I got home that I reflected that I SHOULD have also placed a cache in Ellendale - it really lent itself to having one or two. Maybe next drive up that way!
