Description
Country Woman's Association Locations
The Country Woman's Association - known as the C.W.A. is the largest woman's organization in Australia. It has 44,000 members across 1855 branches. It aims are to inprove the conditions for country women and children and to try to make life better for women and their families, especially those women living in rural and remote Australia. The organization is self funded, non party political and non sectarian. Although I have never been a member of this organization both my mother and grandmother were active members for many years. This year 2012 the CWA of Queensland celebrates 90 years. This photo is of the CWA building in McKinlay. To earn a smiley please log the co ords of a CWA building/branch that you find and give some details on it's location. No need to have your GPs in the photo.

TASMANIA
I was in the area after a newly published cache when I saw this from the corner of my eye, the C.W.A. building. Bridport is a small town on the north-east coast of Tasmania, Australia. It is part of the Dorset Council and takes its name from Bridport in Dorset, England. At the 2016 census, Bridport had a population of 1,715.
QUEENSLAND
I found this C.W.A. Hall while visiting McKinlay a few years ago. I don't know if they still meet.
A beautiful group settlement hut, still being used.
Thanks for the Locationless
McKinlay CWA held their first meeting in Lily O'Donnell's tearooms where they continued to meet until 1928. It wasn't until 1938 that the building they still call home today was built.
Thanks for this fascinating LC Doodle Bug Oz
Photo when in decent service area.
Photo will be loaded when we get back to Cloncurry in a few days from Corella Dam
The CWA started in 1926 to support the hospital and everyone who was struggling when the gold mine faltered. The CWA declined in 1934 and reformed in 1948.

Moss Vale NSW
The CWA started in the Southern Highlands as the Berrima District branch in February, 1925. This branch closed ten months later, dividing into (1) Bowral and (2) Moss Vale-Sutton Forest-Exeter branches.
The first formal Moss Vale meeting was in March 1926, becoming Moss Vale in 1946 when Exeter branch opened.
This building first opened in July, 1949, and has had two major upgrades since then. This branch interacts with the community in many ways, evolving from its historical roots of a Baby health centre to providing friendship and support, helping the community, lobbying for change, donations to appeals and various fund raising and fun activities. The Branch makes both financial and practical donations to local schools and other worthwhile community groups, community events and individual needs.
Wingecarribee Street
Bowral NSW
This CWA had been used by many organisations and had many weddings here over the time it has been standing here.
The CWA has seven branches in the Northern Tablelands group. Despite all the work they do for the welfare of women and their families, the CWA has a image for their awesome home cooking. No surprises Seeka was keen to tag along!

There is nothing on the building itself that describes this as a CWA hall, it is quite clear from the CWA description that this is indeed a meeting place.
The meeting is held at Bluestone Masonic Hall in Palmerston Street, Melton.

Country Womens Assocition - Hawkesbury Evening Branch
Located in West Market Street, Richmond (NSW)
I was walking to the library from the tram station and on siting the distinctive blue and white sign knew I had to take its photo for a summer series. Unfortunately I did not have my GPS or usual 'mascot' with me.
To be honest, this is the side of the building, I thought that with the topiary hedges, grass lawn, and pink frangipani it was far prettier than the front which was basically an unpaved carpark.
Thanks for the locationless.
It's a wonder the CWA is still a thing these days. It's not like people in rural areas are isolated like they used to be.
Thanks Doodle Bug Oz.
I used to belong to a folk music club which held our meetings inside it, this was one of our concerts. We had some great times in that little hall.
Thanks Doodle Bug Oz.
A well maintained CWA in the rural town of Theodore in central QLD. The town was completely flooded in 2011 so it has probably had a new coat of paint since then. Thanks.
located opposite Penrith RSL on Tindale st
The first CWA gift shop in Hobart opened in 1942 in rented rooms in Murray Street. Then it moved to Mather’s Lane in 1949 and the current building was purchase in 1951. It was established so that members could sell their goods to help them through hard times.
Today the CWA Shops and Market stalls are an important fundraising source for the organisation. The proceeds directly support CWA works in the community and they are primarily staffed by volunteers. The shop offers high quality handmade products such as cakes, biscuits and preserves as well as handicrafts and flowers to the community at very reasonable prices. TFTLC
But I'd discovered this commemorative plaque which I thought was most interesting in Somerset, while I was out for a jog.
Some time ago, I'd remembered an old lady saying they used to have meetings in a delapidated building (looks like a garage and has to be demolished). Photo attached of both plaque and building - but they aren't near each other. The plaque is down by the river near a picnic/bbq/playground area. Coords are for plaque.
I'm unsure whether this qualifies for a find - let me know if you think it's OK, and I'll change to a "Found" log. Thanks doodlebugoz.

Stopped here today to grab a cache opposite and noticed that the local CWA use the hall as a meeting place.
Thanks.

This chapter of the Country Womens Association is located in Huonville, Tasmania.
The C.W.A. has existed for many years in Huonville and I have had many aunties as members of this organisation in the Huon and on the North West Coast of Tasmania.
As a youngster, each time they were going to attend their "club" meetings, I would tease them by saying "Off to the Chin Waggers Association, eh!" A quick little clip under the ear would follow with both of us giggling as they departed for their meetings.
However, jokes aside; we still support the efforts of these fine women by purchasing their produce at Huonville, especially their chocolate cakes.
A great organisation; which is very community minded, especially in the Huon.
TFTC and cheers;

Megalong Street at Leura Mall
Leura, NSW
This Blue Mountains CWA is the site of regular, almost daily markets and is located right near the centre of Leura, next to the cafes and shops.
I go past it nearly every day . . .
Maybe there isn't a CWA of the ACT, so Canberra gets lumped in with NSW. Oh well, so be it.....
Anyway, here is where the ladies of the Canberra Branch meet, 8 Barry Drive, Canberra City. Think this building will be around for a few years to come.
Thanks for the locationless.
Saw this pop up this arvo and went straight out to get a pic to claim FTF, hope i got it, lol
My daughter Chloe also attends this building on a Tuesday evening for Cub Scouts
