Description

A is for Anna [Pet Rocks at Brimbank]

Do you remember the fad of pet rocks? Did you want one? Do you even know what I'm talking about?

Take a stroll around Brimbank Park where you will find 26 pet rocks hiding out just waiting for you to come and find them. They may be tricky. They may be easy. They will all be identifiable as pet rocks and you'll understand why when you find the first one. If you bring your smart phone with you, at the top of each log sheet is a QR code which you can scan into your phone and it will take you directly to the log page for this cache. This means you can log each pet rock while you stroll to the next.

Brimbank Park is situated in the north-western Melbourne suburb of Keilor. (Melway ref: 15 A10). Entry is via Keilor Park Drive which is off the Western Ring Road. In 1976 Brimbank Park was opened as part of the Maribyrnong Valley Park, combined with the adjacent Horseshoe Bend Children's farm and Greenvale Reservoir Park. The Maribyrnong River has hollowed out a valley some 55 metres below the Keilor Plain, with a steep bank on the northern side and gentle terraces on the southern side forming a huge amphitheatre. The park has several sheltered picnic areas, gas barbecues, picnic tables, and playgrounds. For those who forget their picnic basket, there is the Leaping Lizard Cafe in the visitors centre. A network of cycling and walking tracks cross the park, as well as self guided walking trails.

Come and take a few hours to walk around the park, picking up some pet rocks along the way.

Couldn't manage to find Anna - perhaps a muggle has taken her or I didn't look hard enough. Still good fun Very Happy

#GA5112 - 15:10; In Melbourne for a couple of days and between errands, there is time for a spot of caching. I collected "the magic box" for the Victorian Reverse Geocache (GA6859) from its CO and then set off on my mission. Collected some caches along the way, then did a bit of work for the geodaughter before getting back to the mission. I originally had company when the trip was planned and the unfound caches in this series wasn't on the agenda. That all changed after the recent COVID cases and I was travelling solo, so decided to clear some of the caches I hadn't found, but my usual caching companion had. Managed to collect eight pet rocks today and not sure how the other one didn't make it into the PQ! Looks like I'll be back again for that one. This one was a quick find and the cache was in good condition. TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

Thank you caughtatwork for your cache, this is my first GA cache and I found it after a little search around and then two little eyes caught my eye. I came here for an orienteeing event and I couldn't leave without a find. I'll come back for the rest of your series.

Today I had a little bit better luck than last time.

Work had me not to far away so I bypassed here for a search.

Luckily GZ was clear.

A quick find.

From Z to A, this is really messing with my OCD!
Found with Whheels after the event, he managed to extract this without too much difficulty.
Another one that has been waiting for a finder for over six months.

GCA Find #49

After more than 12 months of unlove this was a lucky find. It was covered with lots of leaf litter and it was only by chance that the cache presented itself. Great hide and lovely park to visit.

Thanks CAUGHTATWORK TFTC. LaughingClan Phoenix

Thanks caughtatwork for the cache. I'll see if I can get them in order.

Had a couple of hours before my flight home, so came out to the park to grab a couple in this series. All up, found 18, DNF'd 6 and ran out of time for the other 2. (More info on the DNF's in those logs)

Park wasn't too busy and although not all caches were done in order, there was no problem getting around the area.

Thanks [email protected] way to spend a couple of hours.

Found on our caravanning and caching tour of the area a great series that we enjoyed.

Appreciate the time and effort gone into placing these caches and the pet rock theme bought a smile to our faces every time we found one. Thanks caughtatwork.

This was next on this fantastic journey around here for me this afternoon. Another one that took a few moments to hone in on but it was finally in hand at 16:00 from the second place I expected it to be Embarassed. I reckon the difficulty factor of this one will raise several stars on a glorious summer day Wink.

TNLNSL. Thanks caughtatwork.

Took the opportunity of a quiet and wonderful Winters day to go to the park and complete the series in new day. Not many people about, which helped me to ho end.
Great series, certainly worth the effort to complete. Thanks for taking me here.
This was the first and I was spotted by a nearby granny who said to me "did you find the message???"

Went past one without realising it, too keen to run up the short hill to get to this one. Might not be so easy to find on a fine summer's day! Thanks.

A new power trail! And even closer to home than the Woodlands 100! And kid-friendly! Yes!!

What better way than teaching the alphabet to the little one than looking for pet rocks? I can't think of one.

So, off we went after lunch, to see how many we could nab in the couple of hours we had to spare. OK, number one: well guarded.

The look on my daughter's face when I fished Anna from her hiding spot makes it all worth it. Fantastic addition to the list, caughtatwork.

Yesterday we had a little over an hour to explore Brimbank Park and look for some Pet Rocks. We enjoyed the experience so much that we made returning today a high priority so that we could search for the remainder. It was ideal weather as we set off. We decided to divide the hunt between us with one going one way and the other in the opposite direction. As we found yesterday, the coordintes for each cache were exceptionally accurate but some of the rocks took some hunting as they were challenging hides, in some ways a little different to those of yesterday. Over the two days we managed to find all 26 Pet Rocks and can report that they are all in good condition but would like more visitors. We strongly recommend this series to all geocachers. Congratulations caughtatwork of a great and enjoyable set of caches in a very picturesque area.

It was a cold start to the day but great for a walk around Brimbank Park searching for a few new GCA caches. After a DNF on the first one we got into our caching groove and had a fantastic time finding all the hides. We will return to finish off the series very soon.

Thanks C@W, we appreciate the effort put into this series.

I typical Team Ladava style we had a slow start to the day, a couple of chores and a late and leisurely lunch before deciding the sunshine was too nice to stay home.
Where would you like to go? C@W has put out a mini power trail in Brimbank Park so off we went mid afternoon with no hope of completing the list but simply spend a very pleasant hour of two in the delightful park.
We must have been a little late to catch up with KoT. as he had left his mark in most of the caches we found.
Anna was given a miss the first time around as the locals were taking a break for their Bocce for a coffee in the shelter so we had to return before leaving.
Our thanks to caughtatwork for the great series. Sandra was really impressed with all the work in placing them.
Cheers

I saw these get published, then my heart sunk when I saw pwags was quickly on the scene to gather up the FTF goodness. Needing a good string of finds in a day, I decided to give these a go instead of venturing south to pick up the JackSpeak series. I awoke far too early thanks to the cold so after giving the sleep option a miss (it just wasn't going to happen) I got up and planned a day's geocaching - priority #1 get the pet rocks! I detoured to grab another GCA cache on the way, then headed to Brimbank where it was still kind of quiet, although the dog-walkers were out and about, from Chihuahua to Irish Wolf Horse, uh, Hound - and a few of my favourites the Staffy Smile 2nd to find on this one, a slightly awkward retrieval (that should keep it safe and well from muggles I dare say)

I was motoring along Keilor Park Drive when the emails began to come through at 4:10pm... 26 new GCA caches at Brimbank Park! I was on my way somewhere else, but 30 minutes later I was there grabbing my first FTF on this cool new mini power trail. A great series of caches, very kid-friendly, and a nice park to spend the afternoon wandering around grabbing some more smileys. Many thanks to c@w for this series, cheers!

Found this one at 5:08pm.
