Description

E id for Ezio [Pet Rocks at Brimbank]

Do you remember the fad of pet rocks? Did you want one? Do you even know what I'm talking about?

Take a stroll around Brimbank Park where you will find 26 pet rocks hiding out just waiting for you to come and find them. They may be tricky. They may be easy. They will all be identifiable as pet rocks and you'll understand why when you find the first one. If you bring your smart phone with you, at the top of each log sheet is a QR code which you can scan into your phone and it will take you directly to the log page for this cache. This means you can log each pet rock while you stroll to the next.

Brimbank Park is situated in the north-western Melbourne suburb of Keilor. (Melway ref: 15 A10). Entry is via Keilor Park Drive which is off the Western Ring Road. In 1976 Brimbank Park was opened as part of the Maribyrnong Valley Park, combined with the adjacent Horseshoe Bend Children's farm and Greenvale Reservoir Park. The Maribyrnong River has hollowed out a valley some 55 metres below the Keilor Plain, with a steep bank on the northern side and gentle terraces on the southern side forming a huge amphitheatre. The park has several sheltered picnic areas, gas barbecues, picnic tables, and playgrounds. For those who forget their picnic basket, there is the Leaping Lizard Cafe in the visitors centre. A network of cycling and walking tracks cross the park, as well as self guided walking trails.

Come and take a few hours to walk around the park, picking up some pet rocks along the way.

Found Enzio - well kind of! The pet rock doesn't seem to be there anymore but we found the small black canister hidden under the log. Very fun walk around Brimbank Park. Very Happy

#GA5115 - 15:30; In Melbourne for a couple of days and between errands, there is time for a spot of caching. I collected "the magic box" for the Victorian Reverse Geocache (GA6859) from its CO and then set off on my mission. Collected some caches along the way, then did a bit of work for the geodaughter before getting back to the mission. I originally had company when the trip was planned and the unfound caches in this series wasn't on the agenda. That all changed after the recent COVID cases and I was travelling solo, so decided to clear some of the caches I hadn't found, but my usual caching companion had. Managed to collect eight pet rocks today and not sure how the other one didn't make it into the PQ! Looks like I'll be back again for that one. Lifted one of the items referred to in the hint and found the bison which has gone unloved for nearly three years, but no sign of the rock that once housed it! Replaced as found. GCA Find #106

Back to Brimbank today hopefully grab all the remaining caches. This was an easy find using the hint. The plastic base was missing on this cache. ClappingClan Phoenix

Heading back to the car now, vis a few more caches of course, I can see now that I am home, I have left Dante behind. Oh well, I will have to visit again to nab him. Whilst I was signing the log here, Emily found some fungus.... hope it's not poisonous....

I was in the area with Emily my 12 week old (today) Scottie puppy, doing my best to make her tired. I think it worked, she hasn't moved since we got home. It doesn't seem like she is much into caching, but she enjoyed her walk/carry around the park today. I will have to bring her back!

Thanks for the cache caughtatwork

A short ride her and I was soon looking round the likely spot.

Ezio was there and ready to be signed.

A few walkers round here I waited to move on.

Then I left onto the next.

Had plenty of time this trip to finish off this neat little series. Found while out walking the area with geo-jas. No problems and the cache is all good.....

Thanks for another one.....

I found the rock and the bottom cover put on the open but a bit if a search around didn't reveal the log container. I replaced the log with a scrap of paper on a black metal bison tube and re-hid the cache under one of the logs.
Onwards.

Found on our caravanning and caching tour of the area a great series that we enjoyed.

Appreciate the time and effort gone into placing these caches and the pet rock theme bought a smile to our faces every time we found one. Thanks caughtatwork.

Today, my caching buddy SedgwickDave and I were headed for Brimbank Park to find the 26 GCA Caches that had been placed there. It started as a rainy morning but ended up as a beautiful sunny day. but first thing is first, find a few caches on the way. Also, as is also a self imposed requirement for our caching runs is to find at least three different cache types. We managed five today... Trad, Multi, Puzzle, Earth and Letterbox.

Another quick find on our cycle around the park

Apologies for the copy and paste, just too many to remember Embarassed

Thanks to caughtatwork for the hide and the series.

Found with Ahomburg today while on the bikes riding around this great park. Got a flat half way thru so not only did I find caches but had to pump the tie up every 5mins. A fun day with a work out taking about 4hrs to complete. With only 1 not found and 1 other not attempted due to muggles. Cool

On the way home now, and having moved the car again to a familiar parking spot Embarassed, I decided to have a quick look for a couple more in this wonderful series before the final trek home. This was next and after crossing some familiar territory Embarassed, I was soon logging the find at 16:50.

TNLNSL. Thanks caughtatwork.

Such perfect weather today. Way better than Tassie was when I left at 6.35am this morning. Shame I only have a few hours before I fly back home.
I only came over to Melb for 7 caches I needed for Geosportz and I was amazed how quickly I found them over the length and breadth of Melb.. but what was even better was having enough time this afternoon to do this series .. BONUS
Thanks C@W

Took the opportunity of a quiet and wonderful Winters day to go to the park and complete the series in new day. Not many people about, which helped me to ho end.
Great series, certainly worth the effort to complete. Thanks for taking me here. TFTC

Following a rainy morning, the sunshine appeared to the west as we left the little one's kindergarten, and she was keen to find some more pet rocks. So we parked at the bottom of the main carpark and walked past half of our previous finds to visit Ezio.

By the time we had to leave to meet big sister after school, we'd added E through L to our tally, and cheekily picked up Percy on our way across the paddocks to the car. A pretty good haul for the afternoon, especially considering no less than two emergency detours to find a loo (the joy of caching with young children). Rolling Eyes

Actually passed another human on the path! Didn't get as much of a surprise as when two rabbits leapt out while on the hill near Queenie, but still a bit of a shock.... Thanks.

Yesterday we had a little over an hour to explore Brimbank Park and look for some Pet Rocks. We enjoyed the experience so much that we made returning today a high priority so that we could search for the remainder. It was ideal weather as we set off. We decided to divide the hunt between us with one going one way and the other in the opposite direction. As we found yesterday, the coordintes for each cache were exceptionally accurate but some of the rocks took some hunting as they were challenging hides, in some ways a little different to those of yesterday. Over the two days we managed to find all 26 Pet Rocks and can report that they are all in good condition but would like more visitors. We strongly recommend this series to all geocachers. Congratulations caughtatwork of a great and enjoyable set of caches in a very picturesque area.

It was a cold start to the day but great for a walk around Brimbank Park searching for a few new GCA caches. After a DNF on the first one we got into our caching groove and had a fantastic time finding all the hides. We will return to finish off the series very soon.

Thanks C@W, we appreciate the effort put into this series.

I typical Team Ladava style we had a slow start to the day, a couple of chores and a late and leisurely lunch before deciding the sunshine was too nice to stay home.
Where would you like to go? C@W has put out a mini power trail in Brimbank Park so off we went mid afternoon with no hope of completing the list but simply spend a very pleasant hour of two in the delightful park.
We must have been a little late to catch up with KoT. as he had left his mark in most of the caches we found.
A nice easy one.
Our thanks to caughtatwork for the great series. Sandra was really impressed with all the work in placing them.
Cheers

I saw these get published, then my heart sunk when I saw pwags was quickly on the scene to gather up the FTF goodness. Needing a good string of finds in a day, I decided to give these a go instead of venturing south to pick up the JackSpeak series. I awoke far too early thanks to the cold so after giving the sleep option a miss (it just wasn't going to happen) I got up and planned a day's geocaching - priority #1 get the pet rocks! I detoured to grab another GCA cache on the way, then headed to Brimbank where it was still kind of quiet, although the dog-walkers were out and about, from Chihuahua to Irish Wolf Horse, uh, Hound - and a few of my favourites the Staffy.
Ezio was easy as - just as I like 'em! Smile

I was motoring along Keilor Park Drive when the emails began to come through at 4:10pm... 26 new GCA caches at Brimbank Park! I was on my way somewhere else, but 30 minutes later I was there grabbing my first FTF on this cool new mini power trail. A great series of caches, very kid-friendly, and a nice park to spend the afternoon wandering around grabbing some more smileys. Many thanks to c@w for this series, cheers!

Found this one at 4:53pm.
